I’m 71. On rough days I need them to pick me up. And when i feel good, i play their hits on drums in my house. A work in progress. Love their cool, their directness and attack. What a band. This is one of their beautiful songs. Frenetic to play on the kit, as a learner because of that uptempo, two hand pattern on the high hat, a sort of shuffle. Busy!

It's 1979. Me and a punk friend of mine go round to a mates house. Before we go to the Friday night punk disco. We are both 16-17. His dad answer's. Baz is up stairs. We go up. His bedroom is in darkness. Radio 4 is playing. We get pissed whilst this is playing. It's something I remember at my age 62 for the rest of my life. Now and then I play it. It takes me back to 1979.. Great times. RIP Baz. We miss you.

I used to go and see them at the Brighton Centre regularly in the late 70's. In 1984 I was visiting a friend in Bath. We were waiting at a crossing and a white van was there at the lights. Little curtains partially drawn against the windows. I recognised the Stranglers inside the van.. Jumping for joy I called and waved, to them, shaking Nicola, yelling, "Look it's the Stranglers!!". They looked like delighted school boys, waving back, pleased to have been recognised by 2 rather fetching young ladies! It lasted a moment, but had a real sweetness to it. Thanks lads for some great music and memories.
