Just loved this vlog, Jim. Besides seeing the great sights of San Francisco, it was really informative watching how you go about your photographic expedition, including the discussion on primes. I noticed that the 28 mm didn't come off the camera much :-)

Thanks so much Alex and I really enjoyed making this one. Of course, having San Francisco as a backdrop never hurts. :-) And yes, the 28mm got a lot of use on that trip. It's just such an amazing lens. Thanks much!

San Francisco is such a great city. You got some great shots. I am impressed by your ability to handhold at some of the longer shutter speeds you were shooting at. Looking forward to your Seattle Vlog.

Thanks so much Stephen, glad you liked them and sometimes I get lucky with the longer exposures. Usually I'm too twitchy but bumping up the ISO helps of course. Thanks!

Nice one Jim! Your best VLOG so far. Great shots and commentary. Did something similar (minus the VLOG) when I was in Toronto a couple of weeks ago, Downtown and Kensington Market, so different to my home city of Edinburgh. I left the zooms in the hotel and used a few primes. mainly my 16mm f1.4, but also 35mm f2 and 56mm f1.2 on my XT-2. Primes do make you think about the shot more, are fast for low light and are light to carry. No doubt it's the way to go for street and cityscape photography. Keep it up Jim. P.S. For wandering the trails of Algonquin in snow, frozen lakes and bright sunshine I switched back to a pair of zooms to give flexibility from 16 - 140mm to allow for subject isolation and panoramas.

Thanks so much Malcolm and sounds like a great visit to Toronto, glad you enjoyed it! I have only ever been there with a camera once, and would like to return. I've visited many times on business, but a few days in that area with a camera sounds like a great idea. But oh, if you live in Edinburgh, well that's an entirely different level of awesome. Thanks for stopping by today!

I am only jealous! I lived in SFBA for just under 30 years! You lucky person, you!!! Enjoy! Don't forget to go to Joe's in North Beach or any restaurant in Sausalito! Pier 39, the clock tower by the bay ...the atrium in the Hyatt ... I could type all day!!! Enjoy!!! You made me sssssssooooooo homesick for SFBA (but Sydney is nice, too ... you could come here too!). BTW I pressed like 30 times!!! BTW2: SF locals really get pissed off when visitors say "San Fran" or "Frisco"; you say "The City"; just sayin ... BTW3 Great shots!

Thanks Martin and yes I have heard that locals don't call it San Fran, but it's a hard habit for me to break. There is just so much to see and shoot, and I hope to return again and get to some more spots that I love there. Thanks again and yes I would love to return to Sydney someday. Great city as well! Thanks!

Always like your travel vlogs, Jim, but this one was even more interesting. Great combination of video mixed with very well-shot stills. Nicely done!
