with these demo, you can see how perfectionnist they were Julian had one of the best ideas of all time to put this filter/effect on his vocals, event hough he has a great voice

It was actually their producer's idea. Julian suggested it be toned down to what it turned out to be. Brilliant tho.

I actually liked the Red Album quite a bit (including the bonus songs in the deluxe edition) and Make Believe was interesting, but their latest offerings are not listenable... I think the hardest thing to overcome for Weezer was they connected so emotionally on their early stuff, and changed as they aged (as we all do). Eventually it seems like all bands have to create songs based on generalities, and it becomes less personal (except for a few, like maybe Bruce Springsteen).

I may have to agree with you on this. But I'm not surprised that there's a song out there which doesn't do justice to Julian's voice. Hopefully anybody new to the band wouldn't listen to this first. They'd listen to something popular or catchy like Last Nite or You Only Live Once.
