LYRICS: Some people think they're always right Others are quiet and uptight Others they seem so very nice (nice nice nice oh-ho) Inside they might feel sad and wrong (oh no) Twenty-nine different attributes Only seven that you like (oh-ho) Twenty ways to see the world (oh-ho) Are twenty ways to start a fight (oh-ho) (Oh, don't, don't) don't get out I can't see the sunshine I'll be waiting for you, baby 'Cause I'm through Sit me down Shut me up I'll calm down And I'll get along with you Oh men don't notice what they got Women think of that a lot A thousand ways to please your man (oh-ho) Not even one requires a plan (I know) (And) countless odd religions too It doesn't matter which you choose (oh, no) One stubborn way to turn your back (oh-ho) This I've tried, and I refuse (oh-ho) (Don't, don't) don't get out I can't see the sunshine I'll be waiting for you, baby 'Cause I'm fool Sit me down Shut me up I'll calm down And I'll get along with you (Alright) Shut me up Shut me up And I'll get along with you

About 18 years ago, a buddy of mine said "Man, there's this song I love but I don't know who it's by. It's a bunch of dudes in a container that's slowly filling with black water". For weeks he tried to find out what it was, but then one day he was over at my house and I showed him this cool riff I learned on the guitar from a band I loved. I can still remember the look of excitement on his face when he shouted "THAT'S THE SONG THAT'S THE SONG!". I haven't seen that guy since 2007 but I still think of him every time I hear this song :)

Listening to this song suddenly made me feel nostalgic. I remember perfectly the first time a friend showed me The Strokes. Internet was a new thing that just arrived in my small town. We watched videos in low quality and we had to wait twice the length of the song to be able to watch it without pausing the video. What beautiful times... At that time I did not realize, but I was really happy. Time flies.

The strokes have this old school feel to them and I love it. They don't sound like your typical late 90s early 2000s band.
@ericfoster84112 жыл бұрын
Yeah. They definitely took a lot of influence from late 70s bands from the punk and glam scene like blondie, Velvet underground, t-Rex, the ramones. They pull it all together in a very original way so it still feels fresh
@FunkyMonk_962 жыл бұрын
The very beginning reminds me of Queen’s “I Want to Break Free” but other than that, I’d say this song sounds very 90s/2000s, It literally sounds just like U2.

Yup. They got a lot of critical acclaim for that very reason. That time period of American alternative music was Limp Bizkit, Blink 182, Linkin Park, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. The Strokes had channeled very different influences than the rest of those bands and did it well.

Julian Casablancas declaró respecto al significado del video: "People tell us all the time we're gonna die from smoking, but you only live once." “La gente nos dice todo el tiempo que moriremos por fumar mucho, pero ni modo, tú sólo vives una vez”.

this song and video make me feel like im going to burst out of all the excitement and hype i feel. the overwhelming emotions make me want to scream the lyrics loud and emotionally as Julian does. i love them so much, and i can’t stop thinking about the part where fab is drumming while being submerged, this whole video is the best thing i’ve ever seen. edit: the reason i feel so intensly about this video is that i'm autistic and The Strokes is my special interest, anyways, i'm adding on to this. i feel like im about to explode from each sound they make. i feel so utterly excited and happy while watching this. whenever i have a hard day at school i watch this video and i instantly feel full of energy and happiness. although, sometimes i feel so overwhelmingly happy and excited it starts to hurt, but that just tells me i'm extremely passionate about this video and the band.
