I've read Dd. Lustig's books, and, have researched the "controversy" surrounding him in some circles. This much I know: before I ever heard of this individual, I dropped sugar 100%, and all of my electrolytes, blood pressure, all lipid panel values immediately crashed well into the "normal" range after many years of being highly obese--and did so within weeks. So, as to the controversy, I view Dr. Lustig as follows: he may be right for the right reasons, and he may be right for the wrong reasons, but, make no mistake, he. is. right.

@@GBOAC Basically, the stakeholders of the status quo have a powerful voice in any human endeavor. So, the pushback is formidable by those who wish to protective their turf, their narrative, etc.... You can find them in literature and on the net, often in the comments section. With RB essentially challenging the downstream herd, (treating symptoms), in his attempt to get them upstream, (treating the cause of those symptoms), it isn't hyperbole to state that that is a pretty heft lift in the face of the gale-force winds of the status quo crowd, particularly clinicians in healthcare. I call it a grocery cart problem. When I get to the checkout I see that 90% of the carts are full to the top with stuff that shocks the living smell out of me. I honestly don't understand how anybody in this smart world with such easy access to stoves and pots and pans along with fresh, raw healthy food to indulge in, and yet the shoppers love their 24 packs of soda pop, beer, chips, dips, packaged white flour breakfast lunch and dinner crap. My cart has a small fresh farm in it! I'm 82, weigh 115 pounds. On no meds. I can walk all day, dance all night and run a small business. I am one in a million and it's very lonely. Junk-food addicts just love the acceptance they get from loving brand names and their junk food-induced doctor-visit games. Doctors approve of your sick appetites. I wish I were wrong. It’s a super easy explanation… while somewhat amplified and simplified speaking, sugar in food IS akin to narcotics for the druggies… we choose it from our subliminal emotional brain, not from our educated rational brain. Our emotional brain, unfortunately also prefers being lazy, so having stuff pre-made is yet another call to our addiction control center… I think knowing when to submit to the emotional response or not, is much more the answer, than flaming people for just submitting (as you observe it)… and in this sense, I’m going way out on a limb, and going to call the people who just submit for non-adults in this sense… they never learned the rewards of postponed benefits, rather than immediate ones.

Another great talk from Dr. Lustig. When I was in Toronto, I volunteered at The Stop community food garden. We would wheelbarrow over huge bins of fresh food to the food bank nearby once a week and the lineup would be down the street. People were so excited to get fresh food because they simply could not afford to get it elsewhere. Some of them were homeless and didn't have access to refrigerators. It was a bittersweet feeling to be providing nutrient dense fresh good picked within a few hours in a "food dessert" located within a massive, expensive city. Some of these folks get the rest of their groceries from variety stores and gas stations. massive changes are desperately needed.

I'm incredibly grateful for a health breakdown a few years ago that caused me to no longer be able to eat ultra processed foods- they cause me horrendous pain. I turned to real food and now eat an organic fresh wholefoods diet, no alcohol, no smoking and I feel strangely lucky my body forced me to do this before I became metabolically unhealthy. The only gap in my diet has been Omega 3's as healthy fat also causes pain but I've been working on eating more salmon and it's given my previously poor energy levels a real boost. I highly recommend a fresh wholefoods diet! A real human diet!

I always read ingredients labels. I knew things like high fructose corn syrup were bad, but having switched from a low fat/high carb diet to a high fat/low carb diet - and losing 30lbs in two months - I now look at all the corn syrup and sugar and seed oils in most food and wonder if food manufacturers are trying to kill us.

Apparently some people just do not care! Others are ignorant of what nutritional food really is. These same people go to work in some cases, Toto the Dr’s that have not been taught anything about health and nutrition yet watch you slowly die without a second thought all because the drug co. Is getting the Dr. To give you drugs that are making them rich. What a mess!

Good data thanks Doctor! I’m almost complete carnivore-5 months, eat no fiber regular BMs. Dumping oxalates like crazy! I had all 5(?) symptoms of metabolic syndrome- even after following, over two years of no added sugar, no grains. Fruits and veggies and low fat proteins- always hungry- never missed a meal! Now, not hungry, not feeling cold, then I clued into - was I getting enough protein…..that started the spelunking!🙏

Yes metabolic dysregulation is huge. However it’s food addiction to starch, sugar and processed foods that must be overcome and mastered. We have a sick relationship with food, along with misinformation addiction and dysfunctional family systems. You cannot fix the damage of dysfunctional family systems and emotional trauma with healthy eating. You must deal with the core emotional issues as well. Come on doc, mitochondrial function has its role but these emotional issues have to be dealt with.

But his giant gut.... It's not just sugar and processed foods & beverages, it's even organic whole foods home cooked starches & fruit that causes big guts in men. Grain, potatoes, corn, rice, beans, fruit. He should look into the KETO diet or Carnivore to fix his obesity problem. I lost 60 lbs in an imperfect KETO year after I switched to KETO to avoid having to go on insulin injections etc from the fake low fat dietary guidelines that made me so sick & pain all over. I couldn't even lift my hands above my head from extreme fatigue and maybe heart problems. Carbohydrates of any kind...I have to keep the total very low to feel good. In 2019 I first found the BEAT DIABETES KZbin channel & Dr Sten Ekberg.

... With the body not distinguishing between physical, chemical-, and emotional stress... There may be more hormones involved, but from what I've picked up: Weight gain is mainly hormonally driven by excretion of Cortisol & Insulin, as well as a lack of Vitamin D, which induces the winter syndrome. There also is the matter of producing fat for storage of fat soluble toxins from food, water, etc.

I have watched the father of a friend for 15 years. He eats a crap diet of sweets, has a gigantic beer belly and never exercises. His doctor NEVER talked to him about metabolic dysfunction. His wife had her lower intestines removed due to IBS. 2 years later the doctors removed his lower intestines. Really????? He has been in a wheelchair for 2 years. Today he is in the hospital to begin amputation of his left toe. They want to take his leg. The doctors have him on antibiotics and a suger bag. They brought him crap ultra processed fake foods to eat. I have seen this soooooo many times. If the doctor shows while I visit him in the hospital I will lose it on him. I have read Dr Lustigs work. He is 💯 percent correct. In fact I'm a bit worried about Dr. Lustigs health. He knows he's not taking care of himself and we need him to carry on!
