I really enjoyed it. Like you said it laid out the premise perfectly from the start. My only gripe is it kept treading that territory like I missed the point early on. Fantastic finish made up for the overlong feeling, but had they tightened it up a bit, possibly a 5 star.

Good point about repeating things like the audience wasn't catching on.

4.5 stars. After watching this I went on a bit of a body horror odyssey. It has always been one of the subgenres that really bothers me. Not gore, but actual transformation and devolution. I followed the rabbit hole to its natural conclusion with Thanatomorphose. I don't think a movie will ever faze me again after watching that.

Not familiar with that film. Might have to look in to it. I find body horror to be very fascinating because it's so personal and really hits home with most people.

I’m in the minority here. I didn’t think this movie was the masterpiece most are calling it. I think I enjoyed Revenge more. I enjoyed Terrifier 3 and Smile 2 more than this. Demi was great in it as she is in everything. I liked it but I didn’t love it. I barely remember the movie and saw it 1 month ago so that tells it. I thought the scene where she couldn’t even do the date with that guy was poignant but the horror angle just didn’t impress me. Oh well.

I think the tone puts a lot of people off, which I can understand. It does go pretty over the top with things.

Did you see Oddity or You’ll never find me? Those are good competitors to the Substance for me…

I did see both of those. I very much liked them. I have reviews of them on the channel. Oddity will definitely make my top of the year list, and You'll Never Find Me might as well, depending on how high I go (thinking about doing a top 20 since this was a very good year for horror).

It's overrated in my view. It's okay but it's too long and the movie has so many flaws, like why would someone who has her name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, not have any friends or relatives.
@CarlinCook16 күн бұрын
I was able to overlook those flaws because of the tone of the film. It's meant to be over the top and ridiculous. That said, I did find a lot of things not believable with Fargeat's last film Revenge, and that bothered me.

I also think it’s overrated. It was fine, but the tone was all over the place. It was too over the top at the end and came off as parody to me. It wasn’t a bad film, I enjoyed it. I just don’t love it as much as other people.

I really liked it because it was ridiculous and went so hard.
