8:57 i’m glad demi mentioned how this story is often dismissed as only being about beauty standards.. the more interesting part is the “self imposed prison”we can all fall into with self harm. imo the substance is basically elisabeth’s two hour long suicide note. great film.
@Ryanmichaelmac2 күн бұрын
I agree! It was so incredibly sad when she couldn’t end Sue because of how much self hatred and loathing she had for herself as Elisabeth.
@whatwherewho86Күн бұрын
It's such a good allegory for "masking." We can only mask for so long before we need to recharge, and often recharge in isolation. And the longer we mask without recharging, the more of ourselves we lose, until we break.
@rebeccahopkins9522Күн бұрын
The self imposed prison of self loathing is one of the hardest places to break out of. So glad Demi touched on this subject, and spoke about the importance of self acceptance and feeling beautiful and comfortable from within one’s self. Such an important lesson for everyone, but especially for women of all ages. You are worthy of being loved for YOU (including loving yourself), unconditionally, and not on some sliding scale based on your age, weight, what you look like, or don’t look like etc…but loved for who YOU are. A powerful statement indeed, in what I consider to be the best performance, and the best film, of the year.

The 4 of you have a beauty that transcends age. There has always been something so special about each of you for very different reasons. No line on your face could ever take that way. Yes, you are all insanely gorgeous but because you all have always owned yourselves and body. 1925-2025 Hollywood beauty standards are dull and have aged over time faster than people do. It is a boring facade that doesn’t help film or artistry anymore. I want to see someone comfortable in their skin, and that is the metaphor of the substance, sex appeal and life. Demi, prosthetics or not, is stunning in that film for that exact reason. Get that Oscar!🎉
