If the movies does very well at the box office, the academy would have no choice but to recognise it. Critical acclaim +huge box office, best combination to get oscar nominations

Unfortunately the Oscars would rather give a make-up award to a period drama where they powder someone's face over a horror movie with a thousand cool make-up effects in it. Always found that absolutely ridiculous. The award didn't start out that way either, as some deserving early winners included American Werewolf in London, The Fly and Beetlejuice.

You speak the truth.

The make up category was created for An American Werewolf in London and The Fly more than deserved it. Even 40 years later the results hold up and are impressively gross. If the make up is as good as The Fly, it would be a crime for it not to win the Oscar although you are right, the Academy is strangely reluctant in giving Oscar in those categories and that's a shame because some of the best acting can be found in horror movies.

Here is a cool parallel: The Cannes Palme D'Or winner (ANORA) finished at third place for People's Choice at TIFF. You know what other movie did the EXACT SAME thing (win Palme D'Or/3rd place at TIFF)? PARASITE!!!!

MASTERPIECE! The most incredibly unsettling, beautiful piece of art in years! From camera work to make-up, performances to script, humour and symbolism (on multiple levels). Everyone on and behind the camera deserves huge credit! AAH...MAZE...ING!

Is this Oscar-worthy? I’d say so at least for makeup 💄 Looking forward to seeing it! 🤩

Definitely the one to beat for makeup. 👍🏻Crossing my fingers it scores more!

Why does Margaret qualley have top billing on the poster? The disrespect towards demi moore

I just watched it and WOW. Absolute dynamite. I really hope it’ll get some Oscar, SAG, GG and/or BAFTA recognition but expectations low given how bold the film is

It did win the Screenplay award at Cannes, so there is a possibility in Original Screenplay, perhaps

You absolutely must watch Revenge. Honestly, I'll be surprised if The Substance tops it. Nice review. Thanks!

Revenge is ok but not great. I hope this is better.

@@ktom5262 That's how I feel about it. It's entertaining but the level of exaggeration makes it impossible to take seriously.

I’m definitely glad I saw it in theaters because of how ambitious and insane it is, but I still think it would have benefited from being more subtle in the first half so the last half would have had more impact due to contrast

I'm calling Demi Moore for LAFC Best Actress prize now.

Let's talk Best Actress for a second. Ultra competitive as usual. In the mix I have: Mikey Madison (a near lock) Angelina Jolie Marianne Jean-Baptiste Nicole Kidman Fernanda Torres Demi Moore Pamela Anderson (those that love this performance LOVE it) Lady Gaga (though I expect she'll run in Supporting) Cynthia Erivo Saoirse Ronan Amy Adams

The current most prominent candidates seem to be: Mikey Madison (Anora) Angelina Jolie (Maria) Amy Adams (Nightbitch) Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez) Marianne-Jean Baptiste (Hard Truths) Nicole Kidman (Babygirl) Demi Moore (The Substance) Saoirse Ronan (The Outrun) I haven't heard that much about I'm Still Here so I don't know what chances people are giving Fernanda Torres. But I have no idea why anyone thinks Wicked will be an awards winning movie. Lady Gaga will be going supporting no doubt, apparently she's in around a third of the movie

I was trying to tell people that The Substance was a mix of Death Becomes Her and The Thing. I was totally uncomfortable watching this film, that's what makes it so good.

This is the Kamala controversy for tiff/cannes 2024 reviewers: Demi is pronounced De-MEE. It is not supposed to rhyme with semi.

Hey, did you watch I'm Still Here?

One of the ones I’m kicking myself for not being able to fit in my schedule. I heard good things about it! 😢

I currently have Fernanda Torres in my Best Actress predictions.
