It's in all stations of fully automated driverless lines 1, 4, and 14. Also in most and busiest stations of semi automated line 13. All 4 new driverless lines 15, 16, 17 and 18, will have complete floor to ceiling platform screen doors in all stations. Line 11, which was recently extended and doubled in length, also had all its station platforms prepared for future installation of PSD's in view of its future switch to driverless automation. Such equipment is being studied on pretty much all other lines. The main issue in NYC is that everything costs much more, for no good reason, than anywhere else. A basic light rail line there costs as much, or more, than a full-fledged deep underground subway in Paris or Madrid...

@Fcreceptor17 күн бұрын
Part of me doesn’t understand why it’s like this all over the world. Part of me thinks it’s the normalization of mental illness and hands off approach to substance abuse. We use to marginalize drug users and those who were aberrant. The internet helped push abnormal behavior into the realm of socially acceptable. When I was a kid in the 80s you didn’t see home.less people all over town. Now they’re all over and those who use to be run off are now allowed to just go anywhere. I’m old school, but I firmly believe people belong where they belong, and that is not wherever the hell they want. (This comment will be removed I’m sure)

How could New York City be more dangerous now ? ,compared to /1970s/1980s?..at a time when the subway was at its very worst,you had gang and drug infested neighbourhoods,the city was falling apart,300 felonies a week were being committed on the subway during the 1980s decade,and this was just the subway crime statistics,total number of murders for 1980 were 1,787...and would remain around this figure untill at least 1994 after peaking at a record all time high of more than 2300 murders in 1992..subways and trains have never been cleaner,gangs no longer exist like they once did,the Bronx and Harlem and many other areas no longer look as destroyed and as frightening as they once did,along with all the other social and political events at the time..all this panic and hysteria of a lawless new York city as people are now saying..I'm at a loss to understand this,as crime statistics simply don't support this,when you compare current levels of crime now to how it was in the 1970s/1980s.. its only a tiny fraction of what it once.was..that new York city of the 1970s/1980s was a frightening and lawless society!.,and nowhere near as bad and as dangerous as it once was,and that's a fact!.

As a west coaster I've traveled many times to New York City as a tourist. I've only ever had any problems one time, and that was the most recent time, in December 2022. We were on our way to Radio City Music Hall and one block away we got stuck in a human traffic jam. We were like sardines, and we simply could not get to the curb to cross the street. We eventually pushed our way out toward the side and got out of there. I've never seen anything like it but it was pretty scary. As for the subways, I've often seen crazy types but never had any issues with them myself. In fact I like the subways, since they're convenient and most people are just normal people. minding their business, going from point A to point B. They can be very crowded but that's expected with mass transit in a big city.

I grew up in and around the NYC area in the '60's - '80's. Even in the '70's when the city got pretty rough and the subways were disgusting and covered with graffiti, there was an expectation that lawbreakers, if caught, would suffer a consequence. Given the lawless sh*thole it has become, I never go back anymore, even just to visit. FTR, anyone who stands on a subway platform when a train is pulling in without something solid behind them like a wall, a sign, or even a pillar is crazy. Unless it's deserted of course, but still scan your surroundings and what/who is behind or near you. Vigilance is free.

Before I arrived in the late 80's, back in the 70's, police had attack dogs with them on the subway trains that were covered in graffiti. NYC's always been a scrappy town, but when I was there (for 30 years!!), it was magical and safe, but then rent and crime started to skyrocket. It's gone downhill fast. No more artists.
