Feel a bit bad to admit this, but this is why I watch KZbin the most by far. It's free, it recommends me stuff, there are tons of independent creators, and I have AdBlock. It's arguably the most pure entertainment experience I could possibly ask for. The reason I don't watch as much TV, despite easily being able to pirate or stream that for free, is because there aren't recommendations. Nothing's feeding me the content, so I just rarely bother to go out of my way to actually pick something out and watch it. If you tell me to watch an awesome animation that I have to pay for or pirate, I MIGHT go out of my way. If you tell me to type something into KZbin, I very likely will watch it eventually.

I've been a regular (viewer of) indie animation since I was about 10, so about 13 years ago, with namely artists like SplashKittyArtist, UrnamBot, LupesVulpes, illbringyoudown, among others including Vivzie, seeing this genre explode over the last 2 years is, very unexpected but amazing. And I too, noticed that Lackadaisy raised 2mil with 'only' 11m views (for the pilot) (I watched it raise from a few hundred thousand to under 1 mil in a day, it was shocking) and wondered just how much money TADC could get with now officially 100mil for their pilot. I wonder however, how long can this last? Fame and money gets to people, and whilst we are clearly in a good 'era', lets hope the last 2 years weren't 'the golden age' with our future looking worse. I mean, despite all this content, and my own consumption, I've never spent a cent on watching any of this, is this *really* profitable enough to continue?

I feel like there is a lot of people willing to fund others and their projects like lackadaisy, but merchandise is probably one of the biggest ways these animator raise for funding. There's some real gormet stuff being made right now with a HUGE demand for more stuff like it! Another thing I also kind of like about Inde animations is that their episodes are a neccessary length. I feel like this is a good thing, because one thing I strongly dislike about most TV shows and series is: they often try to make each episode exactly the same length (20 minutes), or if it's too short, then they add more fillers and BS in an episode. But I feel like it's a good thing if some episodes are just shorter than others, because you know there's more relevant and on-point content in each episode.

i wish you talked about Battle For Dream Island by JacknJellify. it has been running since 2010 when the creators were 13, spawned an entire genre of youtube animation shows and once WON OVER HELLUVA BOSS in 2021

YES!!! I get so sad anytime people talk about indie animation on KZbin and it's origins without mentioning BFDI. It's been going on for 13 YEARS!! And episodes are STILL being made to this Day! The latest episode in the saga just came out like 3 days ago. This series really has such a special place in my heart ❤

I tear up anytime I look back at the older episodes and compare them with the new ones because they've improved so much without losing their essence. I've been keeping up with the series ever since BFDIA and I still get excited for new episodes! JacknJellify finally reached 2 million subscribers not to long ago too like I'm just so proud and I feel so lucky to see the improvements they've made in real time 🥺🥺🥺🥺💖💖

@@arishachoudhury_ Puppetry is technically a form of animation, but it's more than just puppets. It also incorporates many other types of animation. Digital Circus took quite a bit of inspiration from episode 4 in particular, if I had to guess. That glitchy part where the theme song repeats "day after- day after- day after-" is reminiscent of when they are in the digital world and the red guy says "oh yeah. wow- wow- wow this is a computer."

It's cool to see these new animated shows on KZbin that proves there's a real community behind animation, and that it's not just a money farm for big industries. I'm not against the idea of considering KZbin as a great place as a free streaming platform for these shows, but they first gotta fix the problem that most animated content suffers from... which is being oftenly labeled as "Made for Kids" due to the idea that a lot of people still considers animation stuff as children content...

8:53 it should also be noted that these teams mainly formed after youtube started to prioritise long videos and viewer retentions. it became a lot harder to make a couple 5 minute story time videos alone every few months and so they were pretty much forced to either hire their friends or develop a proper team. i think they’re still very much a part of the indie animation scene, just like viziepop. they’re giant successes but only due to their communities and hard work over the years

It's pretty cool to see animations channels, both studios and solo animators dominate KZbin with millions, if not billions of views a month, even with its own merch. I doubt the big studios like Disney would do that.

I mean yeah, kinda impressive how web animation has blown up now that mainstream has for the most part flopped, so henceforth we have brilliant creators like the ones mentioned in this video, as well as alan becker, who has been on the scene the longest and is still one upping himself, and numerous other channels, which I myself might be added to some point in the near future. I mean, wolf song the movie, whitefall, amazing digital circus and more are all works that I consistently tend to be watching, compared to all those corporatised nonsense that mainstream keeps pumping out. Its not about quailifcations, its about how well you write, how good of a story you tell, how engaging your story is and how many plans you have to improve yourself if you feel the need is that counts

Alan usually have Animation vs Minecraft bur now he's started an other season of Animation vs Animator witch I think everyone should pick up! Honorable mention: Morø productions who made FnF indie cross and recently a murder drones vs helluvaboss animation! Kurgezagts and Rational Animations science animation videos!

Yeah true, but hey, both Hazbin and Glich was their own productions! And one recent video from kurgezagt (4.5 billion years in 1 hour) they have a credit section and from what I can tell, they seems to be more like a company but not on a huge scale (not in the form of views though xD). Same with Alan Becker, just watch his recent animation! (all though pls watch the first of the season or you’ll not quite understand the plot 😅) Side note, I’m listening on the soundtrack of that video right now xD
