Hey Matt, unrelates to the video or sponsor, but since you’ve talked about Midway so much already, I’d be REALLY interested in seeing you cover a video game called “Freaky Flyers,” their attempt at a Mario Kart style racing game with some….questionable character development in the form of Punch-Out levels of stereotypes It’s one of my favorite childhood games and I’d love to know more about how it was made and what happened to it

The Suffering opened my mind to how weird you can make your monster designs. I've seen weirder since, but not very often, and even more rarely in horror. I wish more developers expanded their vision beyond "zombie" and "zombie but fat."

Same here a result of WB owning Midway Games and doing screw all with their IPs aside from Mortal Kombat which is a shame since if WB did want to make a little more pocket money, especially with their scary levels of debt they've accumulated with several dog water business decisions thanks to that clueless CEO they've gotten since the Discovery merger. Rereleasing the Suffering games along with the other Midway games they've been hoarding for sometime now will definitely make headlines due to their long absence from the public eye let alone guaranteed to print money going for a GoG and Steam release along with doing Xbox's Backwards Compatibility program and Sony's Classics Program as the OG games released on a payed emulation type deal with some enhancements but nothing nuttier than that as a means to test the waters. Then maybe a full blown remake of the second game acting as a Director's Cut maybe doing the same with the first game before doing a 3rd entry for the Suffering franchise that's how I would do it.

I will forever cherish these games despite their faults, my favourite bit being that they never truly elaborate where the monsters are coming from and every person you meet along the way comes up with their own origins or true being, you really feel like a bystander a hundred miles from ground zero of some kind of apocalyptic event.

This franchise seriously deserves a second chance, free from midways stupidity. Hearing about the potential of the sequel originally being a 360/ps3 launch title really pisses me of because it absolutely would’ve been fantastic and midway fuxked it up for everyone by rushing everything. With the recent success of all these other horror game remakes/remasters coming out lately though, now is literally the perfect time for the suffering to make a comeback. What are they waiting for.

Yeah, not only is WB sitting on this property and not doing anything with it, but they've had it de-listed from the online platforms that had been selling it so it's unavailable except on the second-hand market. Apparently there's talk that WB is selling off their game-related IPs, so there's a chance someone else picks this up and gets it re-listed on digital platforms, or passes it off to a studio like Nightdive for the remaster treatment, but still, it sucks that there are these two great action/horror hybrids that it's now much more difficult to play if you didn't already own them.

I remember playing some of this when it came out thanks to GameTap. I didn't spend much time with it as the tone and style didn't jive with me too well, but I did find it amusing when you ran into somebody getting attacked and one voice saying "Help him!" and another going "Fuck him!" in a way that sounded less like "he's not worth saving" than "you should go to bonetown with him" to me. I'm honestly surprised you didn't mention the angel/devil voices, because I feel like they were the most interesting thing in the game.

I have fond memories of the first game. I played it back when I started college, and it was really good (some of the jumping mechanics for the one boss fight were tricky but the game overall was fair, well-designed and had a decent story). I loved the secret Gonzo Gun, such an absurd weapon. I encountered what was probably a glitch in the second and never completed it, so I should probably get around to that one day (at least watching a longplay to get the remaining story). Funny enough the first time I played The Suffering was on accident. I was in second grade & my dad bought me an Official Xbox Magazine for the then “new” James Bond Everything Or Nothing game which came with a demo disc containing a bunch of demos. When trying out all the demos on the disc I finally came to the demo for The Suffering & saying I was terrified playing it as a little second grader is an understatement 😂 it was one of those games I KNEW my mom would’ve killed me if she knew I was playing at the time but I was so invested in it because of the real fear I was feeling while playing it. I loved it, & to this day I attest that demo to contributing to my love for horror games to this day.

The first game is by far one of my favorite games of all time. I mustve beaten it at least 30 times. The second was ok. This series def deserved better.

My PS2 copies of these games are the only cases I have displayed cover out on my collection shelf. The first one got me into survival horror games.

I was literally thinking this morning that I needed to go back and see if there's a WH on The Suffering that I needed to refresh myself on. Like I swear this already existed 😅

We need a bunch of Midway franchises to either return or at least be remastered.

The Suffering is actually in my top ten favorite video games of all time. I'm really sad that it's been forgotten, at least by the gaming industry.

Oh my god Matt, this is a game I’ve forgotten about, I remember looking it up but because of how long ago since I’ve seen my cousin play it I gave up looking, I remembered only little of the game(protagonist turning into a hideous monster, being a kind of first and third person game) and now I finally know what it is…thats my biggest takeaway from this episode
