@@sdqsdq6274 too bad it's the best and only sanctuary for these Rhinos. There are 10 Rhinos that come from the breeding program so far, only 2 were bred in Cincinnati zoo, the rest were from several facilities in Indonesia. All 10 are now raised in the sanctuary to breed more rhinos. And Sumatran Rhino is not the only megafauna being taken care of in Indonesia. There are tigers, leopards, elephants, orangutans, and you might heard of Komodo Dragons..

Nice work on the video on the mysterious Sumatran Rhino, my friends! We need to save these rare species along with other rhino species. It also appeared in the Wild Thornberrys series too. Which Nigel Thornberry loves it so much.

Tremendous work! This video should be played in all biology classes in high school. People think conservation of an endangered species is relatively easy, but this poor animal just can't be relocated of after decades of effort, numbers continue to plummet.

I've waited many months to kickstart this series and I'm beyond glad to see it finally uploaded. As tragic as their situation is (and I very much hope they bounce back), they were so intriguing to research and it was a lot of fun to work on this video. The Colossal Foundation is now partnering with the Indonesian Government and Re:Wild to help save the Sumatran Rhinos!! Considering that plus the fact we had three babies born in the last couple years, the outlook is starting to look a little less dire for these magnificent creatures! I really hope they help out the Javan Rhinos too!! 😢 😭

Fun fact, the hairy rhino (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis), black rhino (Diceros bicornis), and white rhino (Ceratotherium simum) are all more closely related to the woolly rhinos (genus Coelodonta) than they are to the indian rhino (Rhinoceros unicornis) and southeast asian rhino (Rhinoceros sondaicus) This is because Rhinoceros is the sole extant genus of the subfamily Rhinocerotinae whereas all other extant rhinos that have two horns belong to the subfamily Dicerotinae, which is further split into the tribes Dicerorhinini and Dicerotini, interestingly, the Dicerotinae subfamily that contains all two-horned rhinos is more closely related to Elasmotheriinae than it is to Rhinocerotinae

The fact that rhino 'horn' is still being sought after for so-called medicinal purposes (aphrodisiac) in the twenty-first century is as unbelievable as it is tragic. Maybe not necessarily an issue with the species being discussed, but still important to point out if efforts to preserve all the remaining populations are to have any lasting impact.

One of the huge reason why the Sumatran rhino has a smaller population is due to extensive hunting by colonizers, especially the Dutch and British, in the past.

I do apologize for forgetting to mention Rudi Putra in the video. Having been the sole researcher for this video and with the extensive research that I did; it was inevitable that I’d unfortunately forget to include an important fact or to cover an important figure in their conversation. I’ll do my best to avoid repeating that same mistake in a future video. Please know that I had no ill intent and as someone that cares deeply about these rhinos [along with the other animals in their native range], I’m thankful for Putra’s contributions in protecting Aceh and North Sumatra’s ecosystems.

@@rivelinorahmadyanirawanpra1469 while it would be nice to increase efforts to protect this rhino, it does not necessarily have to come at the expense of other animals that are more popular, but still in need of help. We can help both pandas and rhinos 😁

Calling the Sumatran rhino a living fossil is misleading when the woolly rhino itself only went extinct very recently in evolutionary time and is NOT an ancient animal.
