I love Inception & ATSV! I can’t wait for those! I can’t help but notice you guys never reacted to Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. You’re missing out! The writing gets pretty deep & heartwarming and the animation is absolutely stunning! That film along with Spider-Verse & Arcane have redefined animations. TMNT: Mutant Mayhem is another great story that utilizes this art style well. I was blown away watching it in 3D.

One tidbit I like is the reason why Brooklyn suddenly got flood is probably because Bowser smelt all the ice in Penguin land which lead it all leaking to the pipe somewhere.

I have a funny feeling that the reason they went with that song for that scene was because it can sound like they're saying "Ta - *Kong* - me". The music in general may be the "worst" part of the movie. Not because any of it is a bad fit or anything. But the music Brian Tyler composed is so great. Consider how great everybody thinks the super star theme was at the end, and then you find out he had to fight for that and Nintendo was instead going to use... Jump by Van Halen. And *that* choice is clearly just because of the name.

Nintendo / Illumination wrote a song for Jack Black and asked for his input and his thoughts, and he wrote the Peaches song instead, performed it and sent it back to them and they loved it. So he kind of took it on himself to write the song for it probably without it even being in his contract. Also, a funny note, in the song he says, "Peach, you're so cool!" and it reminded me of when Miyamoto introduced the cast of characters for the movie in the Nintendo Direct when he said about Chris Pratt "He's so cool!" I wonder if Miyamoto was referencing the song in a subtle way since it certainly would have been written and most likely done by that point.

I think the reason they used the real life songs was just to play it safe. I think they wanted to make sure they made a good movie, so they played a lot of things safe including the music. A lot of those songs are ones that have been used over and over. They know they work, so they did it.

The kart scene in particular could have felt like it fit more instead of feeling like a weird music video in the middle of the movie.

It was great to see “the Mickey Mouse of video games” getting a more respectful movie. No Sleep Til Brooklyn = the Mario Bros live in Brooklyn, I Need A Hero = self explanatory, Take On Me = number 1 song on the Billboard charts when the NES launched in New York City on October 18th, 1985 (notice how Blondie Kong is dressed like Sonny from Miami Vice in that scene, 80s reference. Again, this film was complete before the score was composed) Thunderstruck = they should've went with something else here, either unused score or an actual 80s song, like Heading Out to the Highway or Freewheel Burning (both Judas Priest songs)

Not really, cause they can. Plenty of movies some of them saw in theaters cause they just couldn't wait. Like take Spider-Verse. Most of the crew was fine waiting to do a reaction, but Aaron really wanted to see it, so him and Melanie saw it with their family. And plenty of shows they watch on their own too. They can watch whatever they want, but are just fine waiting for most things (also its their job, so imagine you'd find it easier to wait for things knowing you make a living off it)

If I had to compare this movie to another, it have to be "Ratchet & Clank." (Not just because both were made by Universal.) Mario and Ratchet are both small time wokers who dream of doing bigger things. Both of them also have "accidents" at the start of their movies. (Mr. Microns ship for Ratchet, and the plumbing problem for Mario.) Mario and Ratchet also go through character development throughout their movies. (Both of them also want to help others and do good, and become heroes in their own rights.) It took me some time to realize how similar both of these movies are. (If they haven't seen the Ratchet & Clank movie yet, I highly recommend they watch it.)

It's annoying because the composers did make video game adapted tracks for all those licensed song parts of the film (except for No Sleep till Brooklyn, I believe), but movie executives denied them and insisted on playing it safe with licensed tracks that, as Rick says, really take you out of the movie. It was a cowardly move, if you ask me. They had to fight to keep the invincibility star music in it. To address Rick's question about that, I think the reason it works with Shrek is because Shrek is pretty satirical of the fairy tale genre and the contemporary songs are a part of that humorous tone. Even then, they're getting covered by Donkey in-universe half the time. The Mario movie, on the other hand, as much as it's a kids movie, it is taking itself seriously. It's not meant to have a meta element to its setting or jokes (for the most part - there are references but they're to the broader game universe, not pop culture). So the licensed tracks are just jukeboxing a movie that is the same with or without those songs whereas Shrek loses a little of its intended satire if you take out its songs.

I have a hard time believing the idea of adding the licensed music was either a case of "real mixed with fantasy" or the "this is for the parents watching" considering they made custom music for those moments in the movie that are only found on the OST and we don't have a cut that has the custom music in place. And while I'm not completely bothered by it, the story could have been better (as noted in Charriii5's rewrite), plus I was REALLY hoping they would go more for the idea of it being a single world rather than 2 separate dimensions, because I feel like that idea is a little overused when it comes to wanting to do video game story adaptations. And I'm fairly certain we've dropped the "they're from Brooklyn" plot a LONG time ago. Like, it would have made much more sense to me if it was New Donk City instead, plus they missed out on a perfect "Brickland" joke as a take on where the bros are from. Granted this may just also be a case of "the current Nintendo lore masters" at the company being very restrictive and in an "older mindset" considering the weird stance they currently have with NPCs like the Toads and not having any gender diversity or age differences (despite Toadette showing up on a poster in Toadtown and recently was featured in Odyssey, but then again Toadsworth hasn't been featured in anything for a long while despite recently learning via concept art for the movie that we actually could have gotten the different Toads INCLUDING TOADETTE AND TOADSWORTH), although that's just me speculating. Explanations: - Spike is from the Wrecking Crew game and he would tend to be a main obstacle/hazard in the game. - A main reason why there weren't many Castlevania-isms in the Netflix show (especially when it got to the 3rd and 4th seasons) was because the main director came out and said he didn't like the games. It's a big reason why Grant never showed up despite being a key character in the story adaptation. So the game deviations (along with the "very bad for him" reason why the writer was taken off the project) have made me feel mixed about the show. Like there are interesting ideas and the plot was ok, but it felt a little too "edgy" for my taste. Early on it captured the aspect of tragedy the series is known for, but as it went on, it felt a little too "try hard", but apparently that tends to be what happens when that particular writer gets paired with a project. - Honestly at this point, I would not want any of the current Mario RPG writers on a project any time soon as noted by previous "Nintendo Lore Masters" issue. That's actually been a big point of contention in recent years. Also, I don't really trust the current writers for the Paper Mario games yet, like granted, I've heard good stuff about Oragami King and its writing but its also a case of "there is still the very bad backwards thinking wrinkle that they think they HAVE to rely on paper as the main gimmick and are only ALLOWED to make changes to characters if it actively breaks the immersion" along with "Super Mario World (the game) characters ONLY". So unless they can fix their hypocritical stance of actual world building (because somehow now the Paper Mario games are the bland ones in terms of world while every other game is doing new and interesting expansions on it and featuring aspects like female Goombas and Toads which the Paper Mario games did first), I don't want them anywhere near something like this. Also, don;t expect ANYTHING from Super Mario RPG to make it into anything anytime soon, because literally until the recent remake announcement, Nintendo barely wanted ANYTHING to do with that game or anything tied to it. It was literally to the point that only Sakurai knew how beloved those characters and aspects were wanted back that he was the only one championing any sort of recognition for it, but could only manifest into a Mii costume of Geno. And the only other cameo Geno got in one of the Mario & Luigi games was later removed in its remake. So yeah until the remake was a thing, SMRPG had gotten the shortest end of the shortest stick in terms of everything. Like it's about around the F-Zero series level of neglect. - They DID announce the future movie projects already, I forget exactly, but I DO know one of the movie projects that was announced was a Luigi's Mansion movie. - That opening construction site parkour segment layout was based off level 1-1 from the first Super Mario game.

Chris Pratt did good as Mario and he should the normal Mario voice during there commercial and it sounded great
