I don't care how dust-free that thing was, it needed a flush of everything and careful start-up, not a drag-race 10 minutes in. Not to mention, those drag slicks on it would've been cracked and flat-spotted, since the climate in California is fairly dry and the air is salty from the ocean. Remember though, Dom NEVER drove the Muscle Car, so he CAN'T be running 9's in a car he's just now started driving. So we could fairly say he's not running a 9 second 1/4 mile run and Brian being a wheel-man like he is can consistently run that 10 second bracket (maybe faster) as Dom says earlier he wants to make money off Brian at Race Wars verifying that Brian will and does one day surpass Dom in a 1v1 race and Dom knew this early on, that Brian IS the better driver, just never had the better car (until Dom wrecks him in the Skyline and calls Brian the buster? Cheap). In the end Dom barely beats him and shows both the lack of knowledge of a new car on Dom's part and the sheer capability as Brian in the Supra and as a real wheel-man.

I mean a Supra at that time could very well have beaten a Charger with 900 hp. It would have cost a fuckton of money back in 2001, but there were Supras in Japan making 1000+ hp and were hitting speeds of over 200+ mph. Tuner company Veilside made a few high hp speed demon Supras, the Fortune 99 is one of them, and the most egregious example. And this was back in the late 90’s, which was well unheard of, even outside of Japan. There’s another Supra they built that was doing 9 second 1/4 mile times during that era as well. The Supras were more than capable of being a 900 hp boat mobile with the turning radius of a yacht.

Craig Lieberman the first owner of the Supra used in the movie, said him self, that the Supra in movie universe, would have been beaten by the Charger, because the Charger is a fully striped drag car with sliks, and 900 HP, the Supra with some kind of 600 HP, with street tires and the full equipment that was in it make the car heavy AF, so according to the movie universe the Supra would have zero chance against Dom's Charger.

The front bumper on the truck is an MX5 NA racing beat bumper. Also I’m sure the line should have been ‘this will decimate all, after you put about 15 grand into it - or more (than that) if you have to overnight parts from Japan (I.e. no weird pauses) - doesn’t stop me from saying overnight parts from Japan every chance I get 😂

Interesting fact, the Supra has a MoTec system exhaust, the only MoTec exhaust produced in history.

I don't think Jesse meant 15,000 in parts total. He was just saying that just by tossing 15,000 into the engine bay, you can get a dominant 2JZ which, isn't wrong. You can do it for less but with 15,000, you can go upwards to 900hp. 550 was a shortchange really.

There were a lot of 1,000hp Supras on the road at that time 🤷🏻♂️ I live in a small town and there were two in the area.

Little known fact the sound for the charger is a 67 Hemi cuda making 800hp! I can’t remember the guys name but he drag races the car and it’s racing famous! Like people who know all the drag racers could tell you exactly who he is.

Your microphone/audio interface sounds like its having dropouts which cause those glitching artefacts in the sound. It also seems like the self noise of the mic or interface is high too, when the noise gate opens it sounds like a sweeping brush x3 Just a heads up.

Bruv, drag racing is such that the engine smelts itself. A 2jz, was that a NA at that point? can go up to 2000hp with nos, sure the head wont take that for long but maybe for a 1/4mile. But yea, with those tyres, the muscle would have beaten it by a country mile, but did that muscle have how short gearing? Was it in 8th gear whilst the supra was at 16th gear?

Something that always bugged me. I am a novice when it comes to modifying cars but when you take the Supra out for it's first drive are you really hammering the RPM's? I would think you would let everything set in and not push it hard. True, leading up to that scene there could of been multiple test drives to work out anything that needed adjustment but still always bothered me.

This is fair, especially if on breakin oil or timing/fuel isn’t set up right. But it seemed to be fully tuned and drivable
