I feel that since we have a Constitutional 2 term (or 10 year) limit on the Presidency, then we should have them on the Congress & Courts as well. I'd prefer a 10 term limit in The House, a 3 term limit in the Senate, & a 20 year limit on all Judges nominated by the President & voted on by The Senate. This is the only way to limit corruption in the federal government by constantly changing it.

There are several new mega prisons in the works alongside the cop cities also being built .Enough to move America’s 5% of the worlds population’s 25% of the incarcerated up to around 40% . Which is why I smh when MSNBC and CNN watchers cry about project 2025 as if it’s not already in the works and bipartisan supported and funded .

The Conservatives on The Supreme Court granting Trump this immunity also means Biden & any other future President also have immunity. This case shows 1 of the biggest differences between Conservatives & Liberals; Conservatives only think about how the laws effect them whereas Liberals have the foresight to think about how the laws effect everyone.

Remember when the Republicans refused to hear a Supreme Court nomination in the twilight of Obama's term but then did exactly that in the twilight of Trump's term? There is no bottom to their two-faced cynicism. If they decide they want to prosecute Biden for any reason, expect the conservative judges to spin on their heels and say, "maybe a President isn't a King after all!"

I think it’s a bit more cynical than that, conservatives intentionally create tools of a dictatorship FULLY confident that they’ll never be used against conservatives. I recently heard a clip McConnell laughing and patting himself on the back for DENYING Obama a Supreme Court Justice pick in his last year for “impropriety”, ONLY to immediately rush Amy Comey Barret in for Trump during HIS last like 8 months. It’s a sleight of hand, a false equivalence bad people use, they’ll break rules when it suits them but accuse others of being bad or morally equivalent IF they break the same rules.

It may just be that you haven’t gotten there yet, but one aspect often missed in these discussions about the Bible and education is the morphing of mainstream evangelical Christianity into something like a civil religion, ie a syncretism of Christian symbols, images, language, and mythology with conservative nationalist ideology, ethos, and political goals. Think like the Roman civil religion with a Christian flavor, with some usage of Christianity in order to establish a cosmic right in a quest for power and wealth. The takeaway to all of that being that the goal of these Bible mandates in schools is less about teaching children Christian history and morals and more about exerting power and educating children within a paradigm that conservative right wing ideology is cosmically righteous and correct, cutting off any sort of critique of the actions of the state by aligning them with divinity. Michael Gorman, author of Reading Revelation Responsibly, has a really good high level discussion.

He would actually model his own personal aesthetic after figures from the Black Panther Party. Now he's one of two s*x offenders on the Supreme Court. Not to justify his actions in anyway, but studying his life is kinda depressing because he had amazing potential but he definitely had a real life villain ark

The Supreme Court needs to be disbanded and made into an elected body with term limits. They have far far too much power for a group that is appointed, has a life time term and doesn't answer in anyway to the public effected by the judgements they make. They need to be answerable for their actions, and they need far more oversight to prevent the corruption and bribes that run rampant through them now.

Thanks @Wisecrack for sharing this crucial video! The Supreme Court recently issued a ruling in Trump v. United States, a case concerning the indictment of former President Donald Trump for his actions related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. The Court's decision highlighted the balance between a President's immunity from prosecution for official acts and the need to uphold constitutional duties. The majority opinion granted Trump presumptive immunity for his official acts, prompting dissent from Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson, who argued against placing former Presidents above the law. The dissent emphasized the lack of textual, historical, and logical support for such broad immunity and stressed the importance of accountability in a democracy. Definitions: *Presumptive immunity: A legal assumption that a person is immune from prosecution unless proven otherwise.

I think the reason that post-debate video may not have performed well is because after the debate, everyone's feeds were full of people talking about the debate and it's probably just a saturation thing. Add to that the frustration, anger, powerlessness, and dissatisfaction surrounding that content and it's easy to see how people might just close the app.

People who complain about critical thinking topics being political are avoiding the dissonance between their own values and how they act in the world. Drawing attention to that puts their views of self in a light that shows them to be hypocritical. Which is okay. Everyone is at least a little bit hypocritical. We acknowledge it and do the best you can with what we have.

If someone criticizes you with the intent of making himself feel better you need to see it as a person that is hurting and it is asking you for help but he doesn’t know how. But I believe it is more common to find people who criticize you as an affirmation they belong to some group.

While it's true that "separation of church and state" isn't in the constitution or other similar documents, it is definitely a sentiment to the point of being in text books for middle schoolers as the bullet points to remember for the bill of rights. However people really misunderstand it and misuse it. "Separation of church and state" comes up a lot when bills are being discussed or passed that align with beliefs of certain religions. As long as the bill doesn't cite the scriptures, then that's not actually a church and state problem. Everyone, religious or non religious, gets their moral systems from somewhere and we as a society tend to make laws to reflect our moral systems. Where those moral systems come from doesn't matter in a legal sense, even if it does in other conversations. For example, both the Bible and the secular law say that murder and thievery is wrong and the two of them lining up doesn't mean that church and state aren't separate. Separation of church and state is actually about keeping the government out of religion. This means two things. One, the government cannot interfere with religion. So, the government cannot ban Islam or Buddhism or Hinduism or whatever sect of Christianity that they don't like. And they can't tell churches that they have to do something but it's against their beliefs, within reason. A common point of tension right now is performing wedding ceremonies for gay couples, for example. Freedom of religion and separation of church and state says that the state can't force them to do that, just like they can't ban hijabs or force synagogues to do bar/bat mitzvah's for non Jewish kids. And two, the government cannot endorse a religion. In England, the monarch is the head of State AND Church and can/could make decisions for both. In the past, tax money is what ran/built the church buildings and paid clergy, state orphanages were run by the church and all state schools had mandatory religion classes for the Church of England. This was pretty much how a lot of Europe worked for a really long time. In Oklahoma, the state government is basically endorsing Christianity. Forcing any religious texts to be taught in a religious setting in public (ie, tax and government run) schools is endorsement, not separation, as well as infringing on what the first amendment is actually about: freedom of religious practice. The state board of education making a curriculum for a world religions class that includes scripture verses in an academic sense to teach what the religion believes, like Michael said, is fine. But can easily be problematic if there is bias involved (like the world religions class at my high school often made me really comfortable and resulted in people asking me a lot of questions based on misinformation every semester). A religion class has to be academic and fair not spiritual. I don't know how he expects math and science classes to have the Bible as part of their curriculum Random other example, in the US, we swear presidents, judges and witnesses on the Bible. That's the state endorsing Christianity.

I agree that the current systems are not the best and need reforming, but having elections for judges is probably the worst way. The posability of judges being bought and being corrupt increases due to the fact that someone is going to have to fund them during elections, and favors are going to be pulled for votes.

The second revolution was the civil war; The third revolution was in the wake of ww2 when the us created the liberal economic order which involves co-opting the British empire and establishing nato and the UN and starting the cold war against Russia but mostly took place in south America, And establishing the petrodollar, and had precursors in the federal reserve and league of nations which get lumped in with it by people

The Cold War was two sided. The Soviet Union was ideologically communist, but in geopolitics it behaved as the Russian Empire. It always sees international politics as a question of what happens in its “near abroad”. That’s what makes dealing with them so difficult, because since around the Crimean war, they see exerting power in far off locations as valid if it allows them to be the controller of Eastern Europe. I agree that the US basically co-opts the British empire using the tools of Neo-liberalism, and uses communism as a plot device to build a narrative for foreign actions, but I don’t think you can posit NATO as a completely unethical entity. It might be hypocritical, but it is definitely facing a very real threat in a common factor of Russian imperialism. I don’t think the problem the west creates isn’t really strategic alliances, it’s the subversion of the tools and ideals of those alliances for their own benefit at the cost of their allies that is the real problem.

The issue is, you can't help everyone...most of the time, if you help one group, like homeless people, then you are possibly hurting others, such as people who want a clean neighborhood...so as a politician, you are stuck trying to do what the majority of people want...an example, the majority of adults are attracted to adults, so it's OK to deprive MAPS from living their truth and being who they were born as since they also didn't choose to be that way...

This is the first live video I have seen, and really maybe one of the few WiseCracked videos I've seen since Jared left and I really am not into the vibe. The entire video just felt oppressively cynical and passive aggressive. Though I agreed with the general sentiments, the negative attitude of the host was so depressing I just could not continue watching. There is a lot of bad news hitting us right now and what originally drew me to WiseCracked was Jared's way of recontextualizing or reframing information using philosophy and shared wisdom that enriched my mind and broadened my perspective. I don't need another "this sucks" attitude.
