I have SURFED both Winkipop and Bells in Victoria, Australia 30 years ago. It's remarkable how much on the Ranch in Santa Barbara, County USA ......my home breaks.... how much 'Zoomers and Razorblades' are nearly identical to 'Winkipop and Bells'. Great waves.

I found Bird Rock was the toughest break in (Torquay-Jan Juc) It took me a coupla sessions to understand it....

The thing I find the gnarliest about it is the localism. Generally the Surf Coast region is pretty chill but there’s a bit of a gang mentality out at Bird Rock.

@@user-pb8vj8ml9l All around - Bird rock to South-side.. There's some very self righteous dudes around there when they've got their mates nearby. Also, there's 80 "surfers" out on an average day these days.

wonder how Winki looked this AM compared to bells? if there's more performance there,than why are they not even thinking about running there? i get the iconic bells bowl and all but...

Yeah, I think the name and the mystic of Bells overshadows the long line of Winki and as you hear in this video the challenge of the wave is what makes Bells a tour stop. On smaller days Winki should and does get the call. I would not be surprised to see it on at Winki today or tomorrow. I've surfed both and honestly winki is a blast - down the line speed runs with sections. Looking back on it though I remember my Bells waves more. There's memories of surfing good sized days at the bowl using my board to control speed and carve the wall. Two great waves, two different waves.
