I retired in Chiang Mai in 2015. I left 2017 due to boredom and weather too hot. Mostly weather and desire to travel.

I am in my 30s but could retire now. Somehow I can't imagine living in Chiang Mai or so for the next 40 years. It is just too small and boring. Can't compare to actual cities like Osaka or Tokyo where every imaginable and unimaginable hobby and activity is available and pursued by a lot of people and you can actually connect to the population because they have brains and money.

Moved to Thailand on 2015 to retire there. Left on 2016 and it was the happiest decision of my life. Life in thailand is cheaper than the cheapest bar girl.

" Losing face " Is there an opposite ? if you compliment a Thai girl respectfully in front of her friends does she " Gain face " ?

Great question. The answer is Yes. Thai culture extends this in both directions. Just as one can 'lose face' from being embarrassed or criticized in public, one can also 'gain face' from being complimented or praised. When you respectfully compliment a Thai person in front of their peers, it can indeed enhance their social standing or 'face'. However, always be genuine and considerate with compliments to ensure they are well-received and culturally appropriate. Also, materialistic things can also be a source of 'gaining face'. Driving a new motorbike, owning a luxury car, or even having the latest iPhone can elevate one's status. And hey, if you want to give me some 'face', consider joining my Patreon www.patreon.com/keyframe5. 5555!

If you compliment her with materialistic things. Then yes. Remember, they worship statutes made of gold ✨️ 💛

I've moved here with no issues. Even though I don't have a fair complexion like eurocentrists, having a US passport-and excess funds helped a bunch.

My three retirement choices are Panama, the Philippines, and Thailand. I plan to spend 90 days in each location and then make a decision. My estimated 2028 retirement income as of today is $4600 USD a month. Hopefully, that'll be enough, regardless of where I stay.

I was only there for a week but it wasn't all that cheap. Don't think you can make it on 1k a month without really cutting back.
