This is John McAfee - the eccentric tech millionaire, playboy, suspected murderer, international fugitive, presidential candidate, crypto enthusiast…
And the same man behind that annoying software called McAfee Antivirus that you probably have installed on your computer right now if you have windows
John has lived a… wild existence
Could he, as a 75 year old man with deteriorating health, not take it anymore? Or did the US government have something to do with it?
This is the ridiculous, bizarre, strange rise & suspicious death… of John McAfee
John David McAfee was born on a US Army base in England in 1945.
McAfee ended up growing up in Roanoke, Virginia.
In school, McAfee was hardly the nerd you’d imagine would become one of the biggest tech entrepreneurs of the 20th century.
He admitted although he got straight A’s and did well in math, he was a lazy kid and almost never studied.
Then he got a position as a programmer at Lockheed Martin
And in 1986 as home computers were taking off, two brothers in Pakistan launched the world’s first computer virus nicknamed “Brain” - and McAfee saw an opportunity he couldn’t pass up
1987, McAfee launches McAfee Associates to create his all-in-one antivirus software, called VirusScan. Which was the first of its kind and covered all of the dozen or so computer viruses that existed back then.
The software worked and he decided to make it free for anyone to use
Within the first month of its launch, 4 million people were using it
By 1990, millions of computers were using it and companies were paying over $5m a year to license it
And by 1992, more than half of the Fortune 500 companies had McAfee on their computers
McAfee became a tech icon
He became the leading voice on the threat of computer viruses and by 1992, McAfee Associates IPO’d - making him worth $80 million dollars.
In 1994, McAfee was pushed out of management - so he sold his shares for $100m and left the company
And from there he would spend the next one and a half decades living the life of a tech mogul with more much money than he knew what to do with
He bought multiple cars, built 9 homes, became an adrenaline junkie, then a new\-age yoga guru, then built an adventure sports resort in New Mexico…
But by 2008, McAfee says he kept getting hit with frivolous lawsuits by people who wanted to take his money

John was a man that seen himself as an underdog his whole life but most importantly an underdog that would come out on top. This isn't the type of man that would kill himself because he was facing an adversity. To live the life he did you have to believe in yourself and your ability to beat any adversity that you may have to face. This isn't the mental conviction of someone that killed himself. This is however the playbook of a government keeping someone quiet.

Fun fact: In the mid-2000s, McAfee managed to get himself run off the Hawaiian island of Molokai by the local kanaka maoli population. For those that don't know, Molokai is the last of the main Hawaiian islands with a majority kanaka population. The people of Molokai have fought long and hard to keep it from being overrun by development the way the other islands have been. Naturally, when McAfee advertised the auction of a large property located in the Mana'e district with a full page ad in the Wall Street Journal, touting the property's development potential, it didn't go well for him. Mana'e is perhaps the most "old Hawai'i" district on the most Hawaiian island. The day of the auction was quite a scene, with most of the island's population out in force on one side, and riot police on the other. The property didn't sell that day, as potential buyers saw the kind of hornet's nest they'd be kicking if they bought and developed the place. I have no comment on his story since leaving Molokai, but to all those here in the comments praising the man, make no mistake: he was a self-serving profiteer first and foremost. He thought nothing of selling out a large chunk of Mana'e for development, something which has never happened ONCE in history, just so he could make a profit. He even started a third Molokai newspaper, run by a relative, to be his propaganda machine. By all means, admire the man for challenging the government. But keep some perspective. He was no saint. He was willing to destroy a culture that fights daily for survival in order to make money. Signed, a Mana'e resident

A cursory glance at American history shows that most Americans have never considered genocide (physical or cultural) to be immoral. However, the world is full of people that would strongly disagree with you. I would advise you to pull your head out of your entitlement and start thinking beyond your bank account. Until then, stay away from Hawai'i. We don't need more people like you here.

I agree with the sentiment. People either listen to his side of the story or the mainstream media, two unreliable sources. For me the big hole in his narrative is that the data he said he would release upon his death has never been released. There are definitely outlets world wide that would love to have it and put it out which he would of know about if it were true. He painted this picture of himself as a profound software genius, in reality he made a fast 100 million with mediocre software at the right time. He probably didn't even code everything as he wasn't capable of holding onto the company management. All of his supporters need to take a step back and look for evidence of his genius coding ability. All I've seen are statements he's claimed to be true but never any evidence. Who opens an antibiotics lab in south america?! That was almost certainly a narcotics lab. Lmao. Also, I'd murder my neighbour if he killed my dogs. That's just a horrible situation to be in. I don't think badly about him for doing that tbh.

The movie "Gringo" was such a hit piece. The filmmaker seemed obsessed with the idea of him being a horrible man for liking to have "degrading sex" with "young woman," but then ignored the fact that in the actual interviews it was HIM being degraded, NOT the women! Also ignored that every single person involved was a consenting adult. What made me question the credibility of the scientist he had employed came down to what she said happened when she was in the lab, on the computers trying to delete all of the data. She started how he started cutting the power to the building and how scared it made her feel, because "why would he do that? There's no reason other than he was crazy!" Really?! Let's see, you're deleting the data he paid for, and he's pretty sane to pull the plug and try to preserve it from your destruction! That this woman pretended to not understand this made me question the authenticity of everything she said. Also, saying it was a "sham" but then there was data to destroy? Those are contradictory statements. I don't trust anything in that film.

The more I hear of John McAfee, the more I love him. We have a gesture in England called the “two fingered salute”. It comes from a time when England and France were at war, and the French would cut the two “bow fingers” to neutralise English longbow men, stop them from firing arrows at the French. The gesture came to taunt the French that they “still had their bow fingers”. That seems to epitomise John McAfee’s attitude throughout his life. Marvellous. We need more like him. As for his death, I believe he could well have been murdered. Bush jnr, Clinton have both been accused of such in recent years, for many different murders. Even a Clinton chef has been discussed as a victim. While in a foreign country, the CIA or other government officials would have “plausible deniability”. But who will ever prove that? I will say though, John McAfee, God bless you. You helped make our ever diminishing freedoms SO much more bearable.

IMO he had some mental issues, I’m not sure starting when, but he comes off as being extremely paranoid all the time, you think with his yoga practices and his connections to high up military and sof people he could learn how to stay alert but calm, but he always displayed an intense paranoia. I’m sorry but this man’s mental instability really makes me think he may have planned to kill himself while acting non suicidal, claiming if he did appear to be done by suicide it was by something he wants. With his charges, were you openly admit to, you make them seem pretty legit, he know his days were numbered, and there’s no telling how stressed, I lean towards he went out bang to cast doubt on what he hates the most and to continue his legacy

@GeneralBlackNorway

@@nashvilleantiques8691 Yeah but it's pretty clear he was going to lose his case as he openly admitted to not paying his taxes. He would probably not get bail so he faced the rest of his poor health life in prison. The mad made a ruse out of being broke to get people to stop suing him. The 31 TB of corruption evidence he claimed to have was likely just a big bluff he was hoping some of the actually corrupt people would get scared of and tell the judges to ignore his case. Obviously there are either no such people in power to stop the case against him or they called his bluff for what it was. He announced he was going to be found after apparent suicide well in advance, probably just another ruse to rile people up against the government. This is the simplest explanation that fits with the evidence we have. Having 31 terrabytes of evidence proving corruption is just too good to be true. It's a spectacle out of a movie or tv show. No way he was so incompetent or the government officials so competent that they could neutralize such a dead mans switch. He just made it all up as a final stick it to the government ruse. An old man with nothing left to lose, an infamous troll with one final troll scheme. I don't like or trust governments, but let's be realistic. Why would they kill him if he had been telegraphing his "apparent suicide" and they had him coming in chains back to the US.
