Personal opinion: don’t court order children to spend time with people they’re uncomfortable with; it just seems so obvious 😭
@coyoter96913 жыл бұрын
I know, that seems so cruel. Even if there isn't a threat of abuse or murder, I would think it would be very psychologically damaging to force a child to be around someone they are scared of or uncomfortable with. The well-being of the child should always be paramount in these decisions, not just the feelings of the parents.
@CreativeC133 жыл бұрын
I agree but it get complicated when parents lie to children to make them think the other parent is wrong or evil. It happens all the time.
@MK-Hogan3 жыл бұрын
Kids need to be listened to and it should be investigated when they don’t want to visit the other parent. However, it’s not that simple because it could be the rotten parent that’s successful in alienating them from the good parent. Then you have a case of the kid being removed from the good parent who now has no chance of maintaining that relationship. It gets messy. It should definitely be investigated though.
@ellaboehme67483 жыл бұрын
@@coyoter9691 as a kid who was forced to go through it, yes it is extremely damaging. I had debilitating anxiety, extreme social issues, depression, and suicidal tendencies that I still struggle with years after that situation ended. I wish that for kids who didn't want to see a parent, that judges would take this into account. I understand that parents may try to bias their child against the other parent to try to get sole custody, but if a child says they don't want to go then it should be supervised visits instead of sending the child alone (especially if said parent has a history of abuse). Boggles my mind that kids are so ignored in favour of the parents when the kids are the most vulnerable of the two.

I was old enough to escape it as I was turning 18 at the time but my siblings (in Colorado) are being made to spend time with our mother even though she's incredibly verbally, mentally, and sometimes even physically abusive. It's not that unusual at all. If there's no reason (as in a risk) provided then it's normal. Children say they don't want to do things all the time that's rarely an acceptable reason. Clearly the mother didn't really believe there was a risk either or she would've raised safety issues with the police and court beforehand

I know he was 18 but if he was living with the mom she should have absolutely forced him to go or at the very least stay in town. Dylan: "I don't want to go, there's something off about my dad". U.S Court: "Too bad, we know what's best for you".
@Red1Green2Blue32 жыл бұрын
Except that's not how it happened. There was no indication - to the court - that the father was unstable or violent. It's very easy to make this strawman argument in hindsight but the fact of the matter is in the majority of cases children don't turn up dead. Often there can be bad blood because of a messy divorce which biases children towards one parent or the other and has reflects in no way on their parenting skills/love of their child and the child goes on to have a positive relationship with both parents. Also you're forgetting that often in situations like this one parent can poison the child against the other. Then there are other considerations, does the child not want to visit the other parent for superficial reasons? (maybe one parent is wealthier and has more 'fun' things like computer games/cars/pools etc). What if one parent is just stricter and the other lets them get away with bad behaviour? It's a complicated issue.

Right? We’re like biologically programmed to love our parents, so when a kid doesn’t want to be near their parent it should be taken seriously 😔 this story is so sad.
@natashakennedy75163 жыл бұрын
Here’s my opinion: He’s guilty on all counts, lying to everyone, his mom had a strong gut feeling, the way he acted in interviews, not to mention that bogus fake crying, Dylan clearly was afraid of him, mark basically premeditated the murder of his own son, he told his ex wife where he could hide a body in the woods, threatened to kill her kids, etc. He definitely killed his son 100%, he’s a piece of shit that should not get out of prison

The fact that his last text to his mom was letting her know he’d arrived with a frownie face is so heartbreaking…seeing him on the airport surveillance camera is so chilling knowing those were his last hours. As a mother, I’d never be able to live with the guilt of having to send him on that plane.

i haven’t been able to forget dylan’s story since i first heard it around 5 years ago. his story is so eerie to me because my dad is also a truck driver and my parents were also married for 18 years. the end of his life also happened the day of my 6th birthday. i have a special place in my heart for dylan and his family. i hope he’s doing everything he’s ever wanted to do up in heaven and i hope he knows everyone cares for him and is thinking of him always

The hardest part of this whole thing is that Dylan didn’t want to go there in the first place and then ended having to go alone! if a child doesn’t feel safe going somewhere then it should not be court ordered!

I’m so frustrated with the fact that people always fail the children in cases like this. The courts, CPS, etc. If a child doesn’t want to be around one parent, why the hell would you force them to do so? Why not investigate or take the child seriously??? This is honestly heartbreaking and gets my blood boiling

I mean I see this type of comments on this video, and I understand where you guys are coming from. But you can’t prove anything from that. If your son ran away you would speak of him in the present tense? I don’t get this, because I would speak of him in the past tense because he isn’t present. It doesn’t mean he knew he was dead. I just don’t get it……
@Libz3 жыл бұрын
@@baitroyale6070 no , its not normal to refer to someone in the past tense while they're missing. My cat escaped went missing the other night and i kept saying "i just want her back" " where could she be" "how could i have let this happen" "why did i leave the door open". Thats just one example and its my CAT. Its not normal lol

@@baitroyale6070 if you friend goes on vacation do you speak of them in the past tense? Like, ‘My friend was such a good person I wish I could see them again.’ Assuming not as that would be weird. Even weirder when your kid is missing and could be alive out there somewhere.

@Bait Royale That's all well & good but taking into account the whole interview, he was lying throughout very obviously. That, & speaking of Dylan in the past tense, tells us everything.

Yeah it's really rough to lose a sibling. You grow up with them, and then suddenly they're gone and it's so hard to live with that. People overlook how hard it is for siblings, everyone usually focuses on how hard it is for parents to lose a child. And it IS really hard for parents. But it's really hard for siblings, too.

As a single parent, this is devastating on many different levels. The mom had no reasonable choice and this needs to be changed. If he was going to run away, he would have run away while at his mother's house. A man with a violent past should not have been granted unsupervised visitation.
@melaniejohnston35203 жыл бұрын
The courts failed Dylan by forcing him to stay and visit with a man he hated - you don't just have the right to visitation you earn it -prior to that thanksgiving he HAD not earned it- the laws need to change when a parent is known to be violent toward a spouse or child - that child should be allowed to chose what type of visits he/she can tolerate - shame of the system !!
