Dude! Imagine starting a fight on a guy that looks like a short little 13 year old boy, only to watch him take a step towards you, leap into the air and blast you in the face with his flying shin bone...Then as you look up, from the ground on which you now find yourself laying, you watch him run up the wall next to you, pull off a perfect backflip before disappearing into the night. Leaving you to ponder how even a man the size of a small child can be lethal in unarmed combat when given the proper training, and an octagon cage to practice his flips on.

Can somebody explain me why Dodson, the #1 flyweight contender, the fighter that gave DJ the hardest fight in the division is fighting on the prelims?? While another flyweight fight which is less excited is on the PPV card? Makovsky vs Dodson is a #1 contender fight and they put them on the prelims ;S.

Why not just throw a roundhouse kick using the right leg? I fight with my left hand forward, so I use low roundhouse kicks to the opponents lead leg, but use my rear leg for power hits. I never really understood the logic of switch kicks.
@blackcobra689
@blackcobra689 8 жыл бұрын
***** Seems like an unnecessary action unless a fighter can pull it off quickly. The switch is really a very telegraphing type of move. The opponent knows instantly what kind of kick is coming and can react accordingly to adequately counter.
@blackcobra689
@blackcobra689 8 жыл бұрын
***** Regardless of what kick is thrown, doing a switch motion, lets the opponent know that a kick is definitely coming. I really don't see a point to doing a switch, other than maybe landing a deceptive kick once in a while during a fight. I like to focus on hand strikes anyway, most fights are ended by using hands.
@blackcobra689
@blackcobra689 8 жыл бұрын
***** Seems to be a lot of effort for just a minimal chance of landing a good hit. I'd rather focus on hand strikes. Seriously, how many KO's have you seen from kicks in comparison to hands. Also, I really do know what I am talking about, I've done numerous martial arts for well over twenty years. -Bye.
@MrManifolder
@MrManifolder 8 жыл бұрын
+Black Cobra If you are more partial to hand techniques, then I understand your confusion, but let my attempt to explain the value of switching stances and possibly adding a kick, if desired. The switch itself, if executed correctly, should not require much energy as it is basically a precise, fast, and well-practiced step. You can take a step with a single leg to quickly cover short distances in any lateral direction, or you can do it in place by simultaneously moving the both legs. Offensively, switching stances allows speedy access to different kicking angles, where kicks with the back leg tend to be more powerful then those of the front leg. Imagine you are fighting in orthodox stance (as you said before) against a southpaw, your power low kick with the right leg can be easily checked by the lead leg of the southpaw, but if you distract the opponent with some punches, then you can switch stances and punish his lead thigh with a powerful left leg kick. Like any good striking technique, switching should be properly set up with the appropriate level of deception before being executed (like doing a couple punches before a low kick to bring the opponent's attention upstairs before you chop him down below). The stance switch is also great if you manage to get a good side angle on the opponent (like Dominick Cruz's footwork often allows him to do), but find that the more damaging kick you could potentially deliver from where you are positioned happens to be from the opposite stance you are currently taking. Practicing stance switching until it's second-nature allows you to act on that judgement faster. It might also be the case that the opponent is simply much better at defending kicks from one side, with the appropriate setup (of course) switching allows you to access to his weaker side. Defensively, stance switching allows your legs to be moved out of their current location faster than the step-n-shuffle used for lateral movement. If your legs are repeatedly under attack from an opponent's kicks, and through the course of the fight you "feel out" the opponent well enough to begin anticipating these kicks, then a quick stance switch is a great way to move your legs out of the way so they don't take the full force of the kick, and often puts you in an excellent position to counter-kick them back. For example, people often wonder about how to defend against John Jones' oblique kicks, but if someone threw an oblique kick with their back leg at your lead knee (let's assume you're both in orthodox stance), and you anticipated it well enough to switch stances, then your opponent is left with his legs crossed and balancing on one foot, while you have saved your knee and are now in a position to counter attack with a kick or sweep of your own. Hopefully, that makes more sense. I highly recommend a video called "Moments of Brilliance: Buakaw's Dominant Angle Switch-Kick | Lawrence Kenshin" created by the youtube channel "Lawrence Kenshin". This video shows Buakaw Banchamek, one of the most famous Muay Thai practitioners alive, executing highly effective switch kicks during high-level kickboxing matches.

camondjson you're kind of right in a small way....muay thai fighters only have to train striking whereas an mma fighter has to be a good striker and wrestler.Plus many muay thai techniques don't translate well into mma like the muay thai clinch,because in mma you would be taken to the ground,so you have to adapt muay thai for mma.

shane mcilroy thats true for a muay thai fight,but in mma the techniques have to be adapted because of the small gloves and the possibility of being taken to the ground.I agree it could have been done a little better but still muay thai striking doesn't translate perfectly to mma striking.

+Shcom Brady I'm glad brilliant, well-informed people like you (who definitely have an excellent ability to prioritize and critically think) are around to help determine the profoundly important criteria, like height and weight, that tell us who is a real man and who is human. How else would we distinguish ourselves from the animals? We can now all sleep easy knowing that, at 5 feet 3 inches tall, dudes like Simo Hayha, the Finnish sniper with more confirmed kills than any soldier in any war in human history; who survived counter-snipers, artillery shells, and a high-caliber bullet to the face; and who only used the iron sights that came with his gun to aim, no longer qualifies as a real man thanks to sound judgement like yours.
