I have watched EVERY opening ceremony of the Olympics ever broadcast since 1968........Sydney 2000 was without doubt the greatest that has ever been performed.........The Olympics themselves were the most brilliantly planned, organised, run and trouble free in ALL respects of any held since 1956..... and they even beat Melbourne. They made a profit with future world tourism to this country and EVERY one of the sporting venues and accommodation sites are still being used!!!!!!!.......... Transport and accommodation was a dream. Organization was brilliant, security precautions stunning. Nothing will ever come close to the 2000 games

Pedro Australians must be racist to have revolved their games around the aborigines. Most Australians love the indigenous people, even though most of them live thousands of kms apart and have never met any. Many, many Australians do what they can to help aborigines in their professional capacity, and all are supported financially by the government. It has only just dawned on authorities that their social problems are based on trauma which is passed on from one generation to the next. Hopefully their psychological problems can be addressed directly in future. The actions/inactions of governments does not reflect the attitudes of the people

Yeah ... as stated in this video, the whole bloody country stopped to watch Kathy Freeman and 'vibe' he on, after which she did a victory lap with BOTH flags. Exactly how ignorant can one person be? The hilarious thing is that in the real world, Australia is easily one of the LEAST racist countries; which is not something I am just saying, it's been shown in numerous worldwide studies. One quarter of current Australians were born overseas somewhere for goodness sake!n Which is why Australia has also been found, in numerous studies, to be one of the most multicultural countries in the world. Of course there are some racists; sadly they are everywhere, in every country. However there are very few in Australia and, as pointed out by - +j Phillips - the vast majority of Australians are disgusted by what was done to the Aborigines and would do almost anything to solve the problem. Unfortunately though, it's a problem that has no easy answers and needs to be solved over the course of generations. The Aborigines know that, which is why Kathy Freeman carried BOTH flags. Let's hope ignoramuses like poor, uneducated, clueless Pedro don't make matters worse by spreading their hateful racist bile. It's funny that a huge racist like Pedro - whose comments are the VERY DEFINITION of racism - is calling an entire nation racist!

As a Brit who was living in New Zealand at the time, there was definitely something exceptional about the Sydney Olympics that the world had not seen before. I believe Sydney became the blueprint for really how to put on an Olympic Games.

I was 14. If memory serves me correctly it was school holidays in Australia at that time too and we got an additional one or two weeks break added on to the end of the usual two due to occur at that time of year. I remember going down to the John Whitton Bridge at Rhodes to watch the fireworks along the Parramatta River during the closing ceremony.

Dorothea Mackellar's Poem...."My Country" is one of if not the greatest national representative poems ever written. She penned it in 1908 while only 19 years old and in England....Originally called "Core of my Heart"...for any Australian who knows this land and loves it, it is really the National Anthem that has never had music put to it!!!!!!!!!!! I have loved the poem since I first heard it when I was 6 years old....almost 50 years ago.....................Its use at the beginning of the video is great (even if they do get one word wrong...rugged instead of ragged)

Michele Tims was a PE teacher at my high school. I got to see her Silver medal from that year on display at an after school program fundraising event. Obviously not something she had with her frequently. So it was very special and almost 20 years later it's still a core memory.

This gave me chills! These games are one of my favourite childhood memories, I remember the torch being run through my home town just like in those clips. Watching it on TV all day in the school holidays and going to see some of the events. Proudest time to be an Aussie!

The most amazing thing about the 4x100m Freestyle relay final is that EVERY Australian swimmer was headed by his US opponent at some stage in his leg except Klim who swam a world record.......EVERY single one of them swam the greatest relay leg that they ever swam in their careers................ ESPECIALLY Ashley Callis. His leg was stupendous the greatest adjusted 100m freestyle that he swam in his entire career....He gave Thorpe the winning margin.........The sound when Thorpe went past Hall in the last 4 strokes was almost DEAFENING!!...When Dennis says the roof was lifet off the stadium, I can tell you from personal experience he is 100% absolutely correct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was 9 when the Olympics were here in Sydney. I remember my parents being so excited! They took my sister and I to watch the torch race at different points which at the time i was kind of, like, a bit underwhelmed not really understanding haha But as a 28 year old now, i would love that! haha At school we got to dress in our nationalities colours and did our own opening ceremony which was really cool. My parents managed to get tickets for softball (my mum played softball for fun so that was cool), equestrian and mountain cycling. My parents weren't very wealthy but they saved up and got us tickets to these events and i am very grateful now!! It was just a really nice time to be living in Sydney. I hope we have it here again :)

I love all of these Olympic Documentaries. After watching this one, though, this one is right up there with the LA Olympic Games. However, where is the 1988 Summer Seoul Olympic Documentary. I have been looking for it and I can't find it. Also, Bud Greenspan deserved the Olympic Order Award. RIP Bud Greenspan. Your love for the Olympic Games will go on and on forever.

The LA film started the series of cheap, boring, dull and imaginationless olympic films. The tradition of arty, interesting, intriguing, innovative olympic films which started with Tokyo`64 "Tokyo Olympiad" ended with Moscow`80 movie "Sports -- You are Peace".

Spot Britons Katharine Merry who got the bronze and Donna Fraser who finished fourth in the same race. Steve Redgrave's fifth gold medal in rowing is another notable highlight. I happened to put my laptop on autoplay and this is what I awoke to.I'm from the US and I was still amazed and nearly in tears.Amazing, simply amazing. I saw a video of an African that eyed a deer (can't recall the exact designation) and merely ran after it until the deer tired then speared it or however he took it down,just ran after it and outlasted the animal, kinda nutty,MINTY.

Wow what a doco and the weight Cathy Freeman had on her shoulders of my nation was epic. Sadly I couldn't make the 2000 games as I was living in Melbourne at the time and was on the dole. But I can't wait for our next games in my city Brisbane 2032. I went to the Melburne 2006 (Was living in Melbourne) and Gold Coast (Was living in Brisbane) 2018 Commonwealth games and loved it.
