❤❤ I was one of the 56 000 Volunteers at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, an experience that will live with me the rest of my life, The city of Sydney came alive for the 16 days in September, The Best Opening Ceremony to date even after watching the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony was a very big disappointment to see..it doesn't have anything on Sydney's Opening and Closing Ceremony's, Kylie Minogue, Midnight Oil, Slim Dusty to name a few to close the Greatest Time Sydney and the World has Experienced.. Well Done Sydney and our Volunteers and the Australian Olympic Committee ... The Opening was a Truly magical experience especially when the Horses came out carrying the Olympic rings Flags then Hearing Human Nature and Julie Anthony sing Advance Australia Fair and then see the horses carry the Australian Flags out of the Stadium, itstill gives me chills everytime i see and hear it❤❤

In my opinion, the Sydney 2000 closing ceremony was one of the most spectacular if not the best ever. I think the only one that rivals it is London 2012. The festive atmosphere, multicolored, its quasi-impromptu character, the athletes as the epicenter of the big party, the ability that Australians have to laugh at themselves, the multicolored tour to each of the elements that are the pride of the country, makes it unique and unrepeatable. It is not a solemn event, it is a party by and for athletes. 🎊🎉🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Me too. I was 12. Was lucky enough to move to Australia five years later; still there 18 years later. Knowing what I now know about Australia, its society, its culture and its history, it is a country I am proud to call home. And like every home, you want to make it the best it can be for all. I now understand the point of having Midnight Oil and Yothu Yindi look John Howard in the eye on the biggest stage of all and state their terms. I did not understand the message then; I do now. As immigrants, we must not fail Australia. Respect and a fair go for all. Pay the rent, pay our share, treaty now.

I though she was super cute, and I loved the song too. It was truly magical for me to see her, and to hear her sing that song. As a young teenager I truly was in love with her at that moment. I am so thankful that I now found this video and could see it again. I will never forget when I was sitting there, watching her in the year 2000. It was a pure teenage crush. I still enjoy that song with her very much and have today that CD-single in my collection. Thank you.

If you know the history of Australia and the lyrics behind beds are burning by Midnight Oil… the ‘sorry’ printed on all their clothes was so symbolic. That for me is the greatest part of this whole ceremony. Truly talking about result of european settlers had on the Aboriginals and an all white aussie band not only owning it, but saying sorry in a legendary aussie rock n roll way. Seriously understated. Huge. Fantastic.

The olympic games of the 2000s in my opinion were the best ones. By the time London 2012 one came around, it started to dwindle and become corporate and stale over the years, even the Tokyo 2020 one wasn't impressive either way.

Three years later he left us to "Walk a mile or two" in the heavenly outback. R.I.P. SLIM, we miss You, mate. You've done us proud. (And not only in Australia. I'm from Germany) 🤠👍🏼🇦🇺👋🏼🇩🇪👍🏼🤠

It really should be what we remember most of all. M Yunupingu pointing a defiant finger at the podium and "all those talking politicians" (remember, it would have been John Howard sitting up there) sends chills down my spine. I can't imagine the current government would sanction a performance of Treaty and Beds are Burning at this, the biggest stage, bringing Australia's shame to the world. If only all those people from all those countries knew what they were dancing to, knew what those lyrics meant. I was 12 and born outside of Australia; I certainly didn't know. I dearly wish I did.
