I flew from Texas and spent 3 weeks in Sydney during the 2000 Olympics. I still have a hangover! The people made these olympic games. I have never experienced hospitality before or since like the people of Sydney showed me . I created friendships that have lasted 20 years and hopefully will last for the remainder of my life.

That's the thing that gave me goose pimples. Whereas her people were a consideration, Cathy Freeman won for her country. In so doing, she earned the right to stand shoulder to shoulder with Jim Thorpe and Babe Didrikson Zaharias. Patriots in every sense of the word.

Have watched this clip so many times. Thank you Bud Greenspan and Will Lyman. Beautiful n inspiring indeed. The world was indeed a better place and Sydney certainly produced a wonderful performance to the world. And Cathy, what can we say, she is now a legend! Her run was more than a race, more than a dream and certainly more than an olypic win. It was a win for her people and for Australia. A win that brought unity and so much hope of what could be in a loving world! Thank God for her life and for her purpose!

I grew up in the 70's watching these old Olympic films. They were awesome then and still are. Man, it's been 21 years since Australia? Wow. The only other athlete I can think of who had that kind of pressure on them was Dirk Nowitzki of The Dallas Mavericks. He carried the weight of winning an NBA title and delivered in 2011.

+Anthony Kernich The Australian Olympics was very nice. Beijing was amazing with their artistic, amazingly creative opening (and closing) ceremonies -- and the athletic contests themselves, of course. The USA and London were fantastic as well. I can honestly say I've enjoyed all of them. Korea and Spain were wonderful, too. The archer who lit the Olympic flame by shooting that flaming arrow so long gave me goosebumps. Human beings are capable of amazing things. I hope Simone Biles' and Gabby Douglas's superhuman feats are on full display at the 2016 Olympics in Rio this summer.

If it is anything to go by, Sydney is the most successful Olympics in terms of being able to make a profit and then continue to do so from all of the new stadiums etc. Many Olympics in history have left with it a lot of debt in the host countries

Our Cathy is a magnificent athlete and a great person. So much pressure. An easy win as she glided effortlessly past the also rans. Our best moment in sport in my opinion. What an example she is for everyone and, especially, her fellow aborigines. Cathy is much loved and admired. Humility abundant from this world champion. She said she felt inferior as a kid. As she showed it is what is inside that matters. Everybody looks up to Cathy and adores her manner. There`s something about Cathy Freeman. Australia`s Darling of Track and Field.

There are other more deserving Australian athletes that the Sydney Accor stadium should be named after. There are 4 other female athletes who have won more Olympic gold medals than Freeman and who haven’t received the acknowledgement that she has. 2 of those 4 athletes are also track and field. This doesn’t even include the men. …. but those athletes don’t fit the current narrative.
