Sejic's work is absolutely fantastic, I definitely second the recommendation (or third, or fourth, or whatever number we're at now, as I'm by no means the first in the comments). One thing I find about that humor style you mentioned is that I think it works actually better in Suntstone than in many other works, because with a lot of writers it comes across as trying too hard to "insert humor here" and draws attention to itself too much: but I think Sejic manages to get it to feel more like the casual silliness of actual people cracking jokes with each other like real friends and loved ones do; like, instead of trying to fit the "humor of the day" into a story where it doesn't belong, it's more like "this is the sense of humor that these individuals would actually have IRL".

Very grateful for this. Some suggestions for more: --Omaha The Cat Dancer, an old underground sexy soap opera from the 80s, it's in DIRE need of an omnibus reprint like the recent Cherry book. Though dated in some respects, it was my first comic of this kind. And it's queer-friendly. --Smut Peddler, a series of erotica anthologies from Iron Circus Comics. I adore these books. The stories tend to be very queer. Iron Circus does quite a bit in the erotic realm, such as The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal, Letters for Lucardo and Yes, Roya. --You could probably do a whole video just on the Eros Comix series from Fantagraphics. Some of them were quite good. --Serpieri's Druuna is very old-fashioned and very sexist, but despite that, his stuff is gorgeous.

Sunstone is good. Personally speaking, reading that comic helped me explore some parts of myself. However, I would argue that Fine Print is even better. I originally started reading that comic because Stjepan Seijic's art is excellent and I thought the characters were good looking. Instead of just being there for the art, I quickly became very engrossed by the story and now follow it primarily for that. I never finished Sunstone (I stopped a few volumes in) because honestly I eventually became bored with story. I don't have that problem at all with Fine Print. That story is so deep and relatable to me, and I find the fantasy world building to be fascinating. I would love a dedicated video talking more about Seijic's work. I think he is an under rated artist. Also, sidenote, was kinda hoping you would cover some more story driven NSFW webcomics like Alfie (incase), Rock Cocks (Leslie brown), Eseldorf (Leah Williams) and Horny (BTC/bedtime creature). More creators should be willing to discuss the artistic merit of NSFW comics.

I am a huge fan of Mythology and a few months ago I began to read a saga called “God Is Dead” (by Avatar Comics). The premise was quite cool: a war between gods and goddesses from all mythologies. The comics had sex and nudity right from the beginning, but the intensity of the scenes escalated a lot as the series progressed. As they reached the end, even scenes with actual penetration began to appear. My hint is that the writers began to write the title focused on creating something really cool, but kind of got lost halfway through and began to fill the pages with lots and lots of sex and nudity to please the few people who were still buying it. Oh well 🤷🏻♂️ ps: as you can see, English is not my second language. Please excuse my mistakes.

Great video! Here are some others that are probably pretty obscure now, but were huge in their day: Elfquest: Elfquest was *the* self-published comic that put self-published comics on the map. It's also something of a time capsule of the Counter Culture '70s. Sex isn't the point, it just happens, because people enjoy it, because they fall in love, because children don't happen without it. Sex is both casual and magical, an attitude that seems strange and exotic these days. Linsner's Dawn comics, especially Lucifer's Halo where every damn panel looks like a hang-in-the-Louvre masterpiece. This one has one foot firmly in '90s paganism and sings with mythic resonance. And, unlike Lady Death, Dawn actually knocks boots. ;)

The art style would be recognized if you remember the "What's New with Phil and Dixie" comics from Dragon Magazine, or is wife Kaja's long running Steampunk webcomic, Girl Genius. They also both did a lot of cards for Magic the Gathering in the earlier days, when it took itself less seriously.

If you're interested in more "spicy" comics with meaningful story behind them, I can suggest Cybersix. There was a cartoon based on it, but the cartoon was very much sanitized compared to the much more adult original comic. It might be hard to get a full version of it though, because it was drawn in Argentina for an Italian periodic magazine, and I don't think it was ever even translated in English, so... The order of issue is a mess too, because you have the short stories that were published on Skorpio, and the longer stories on the separate issues they made for the series when it got popular. Falka is another interesting one, from the same publication.

Excellent vid! The more people realize that comics aren't just super heroes, the better. The is one of the reasons that manga can, and has, taken over the comics conversation in the US. There are no limits on set-up or genre there; brings to mind a really great completed series that fits with the the theme of this vid - Sweat and Soap. It's about a leading product designer for a cosmetics company who is extremely focused on scents working with, and falling in love with, a coworker who has a sweating problem when stressed and a subsequent unique and alluring odor to the aforementioned product designer. It's a lovely, funny and hopeful story of two people who come to understand themselves as much as they understand each other. As for US comics, a few "spicy" series you might want to look into are Wally Wood's Cannon (it was written in the 70s for Army services members, so it's far from modern in terms of views), The Agency by Katie Skelly, Gillen & McKelvie's The Wicked + The Divine and Colleen Coover's Small Favors. All are worth a read, for one reason or another.

Loved the content (great fan of Sunstone), would love to see more, both expanding on this list or just exploring the comics & the authors we have just seen. Interview with the Sejic's couple when? While I have read Sweet Paprika I discovered just now that is has a second volume! Also I should re-read it, it didn't really click with me the first read. A good topic may also be the different impact of "spicy" comics in different "genres"/"cultures", like comparing this genre (where spicy is part of the plot but not THE most important thing) with the works of Milo Manara or Guido Crepax (or other similar authors) and/or some mangas. They are all different approach to a similar theme but.... why are different? Also while I've never read old stories like "Vampirella", I believe that if we dig we can find other fine things....or maybe I just got caught from the covers and nothing spicy happens in them ahahah. Great work, can't wait for more videos!

Good job on this. I don't know if there are even any comic shops in my area, much less anyone who carries anything alternative. While I stopped collecting comics a long time ago, at the time when cover prices became too much of a fraction of hourly wages, I love discussions like this.

Sunstone was AMAZING. Legit made me sad at points, and genuinely happy in others.

A forgotten gem in this genre is Omaha the Cat Dancer by Reed Waller and Kate Worley. Basically, sexy soap opera for animal people. Like an HBO drama on Counter Earth.

Sure, I'd watch a second volume of this

This was really fun! I would definitely recommend at looking at Iron Circus Comics if you do a second video. I have three of the volumes of their very beautiful anthology series (I'm afraid my comment might get flagged if I include the name) but there's also stuff like 'Yes, Roya' (complete) or 'Iris & Angel' (on-going but there is no set schedule for new chapters) that are equally wonderful.

Banger video. Really went deep into the heart of the media. The climax of the video was less exhilarating than expected, but still pretty good. If you did a follow-up, I’d come again. ~_~

Sejic is a fantastic writer and illustrator, one of my favorites And I think the reason as to why often spicy comics and stories tend to do romance more interesting than a regular romance in a show or movie or comic etc is because it's honestly really hard to write compelling smut, like legitimately its difficult to write a smut scene that is interesting to read, as a smut writer myself you have to put in alot more effort to make it compelling and by doing that you have to hone your skills more and more, put in more effort and through that you often times become really good at what you do As well BDSM relationships and sexual relationships in general open up your eyes alot and can give you more perspective I mean after all Sex is an importiant part of most relationships so showing that and exploring it is a good thing to making the romance more interesting and developing characters etc Smut is just generally hard to write, so when you see some good stuff know that the writer put in alot of work

Mirka Andolfi also did other very cool spicy comics: one is called Un/Sacred (and it’s set in the same world of Sweet Paprika) the other one is called Unnatural. They are both pretty cool and come on, support Italian comics you guys, we really need it.

Good list but you definitely forgot about one of the best, Omaha the Cat Dancer.

Yes, I was kind of disappointed that he didn't mention that classic. If he does do a second video, Omaha should be the top one. Six

For a second video please also include Swing. Also I am a fan of Sejc's work one of few how bought Death Vigil and Ravine, both criminally underrated.

Cherry was a fun addition I hadn't heard of before! I didn't know there was a Money Shot sequel. Time to check it out. Thanks for doing this video. It got recommended to me, so at least KZbin isn't full-on blocking it?
