my doctor didn't do any of these tests when I complained I had damaged my ankle thinking it was a sprain. Anteror Lateral Synovitis was what the sonographer told me I had and I'm on basic anti inflammatorys now. I think I need a new doctor perhaps after watching your video
@Physiotutors7 жыл бұрын
A general practitioner has to know a lot about different fields of medicine, so it's hard for them to know everything in detail. In a lot of countries you can see a physical therapist right away (direct access). What is usually done is to exclude a fracture (in the US you go straight for an X-ray) with the Ottawa Ankle Rules, then an syndesmosis injury should be excluded. The Anterior Drawer is most commonly performed to asses the anterior talofibular ligament. In most cases (given there is no fracture or syndesmosis lesion) you should recover within 3-6 weeks.
@supmikey1237 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your response, he did send me directly to get an X-ray and ultrasound. He told me recovery would take me anywhere from 6weeks to 8 months and will get weekly ultrasounds since I'm self employed and will most likely not rest properly due to working.
@Physiotutors7 жыл бұрын
Okay. Not resting is good for your recovery, depending on the load, which should be gradually increased. An option is still to see a local physio should you feel that you are not progressing within your recovery.

im in the uk and had an accident which showed in urgent treatment an avulsion fracture so i was treated wearing a support boot to the knee and gradually only using it outdoors or for long times walking for support, but not using it at home to build stability after a set time. this was all going on through constant treatment plan with fracture clinic first... now i am under trauma orthopeadics and with new imaging and tests i have atfl and cl damage so when i sit on the edge of a chair my injured ankle relaxes and literally flops inwards ( left ankle ). i have had all the tests above done but was told i was going to have local pain relief and cortisone to reduce swelling BUT tomorrow i have to have a general for a stress exam and imaging which makes no sense so we where advised to prep under general rules as no one seemed to have any ideas what was going on even when pre prceedure people tried to contact my ortho when i showed them my letter and she got no answers. it is now the general concensus that it is being done under general because it will be less painful to assess as they dont want to waste time using the conservative treatment for it not to work and the treatment drag out longer for me as i injured the ankle in feb this year. i will say he correctly identify my plantar issues on both feet straight away when my local dr said it was just cramps.

Doctor,1 month ago i sprained my ankle with a poping sound at that moment. On taking Xray there was no element of fracture. On consultation with orthopedic doctor,he told me it was the nerve stretch. I have been taking medication prescribed and wearing ankle support since then. I have no problem in walking but on slight streching of my ankle( like trying stand on my toes with my heels fixed) i am in a lot of pain(ATFL).There is no proffessional physio near me. Please do advice me on what needs to be done.

I went over my ankle 7 months ago now and I did not get it seen to because it was not troubling me but 3 months ago my ankle started clicking and then got progressively worse and recently it clicks everytime I move and sometimes it hurts and stiffs up in some occasions and sometimes gives way. What is this? Have done knee to wall test; the right ankle (injured ) one was around 2-3 cm difference to my left.....some physiotherapist said it was instability, but I do not know have you got any idea. By the way great video.
@Physiotutors7 жыл бұрын
It's impossible to give good advice from afar without seeing you in person. It indeed sounds a bit like instability, could also be loose bodies, which is why you should get it evaluated by a health professional locally.

This test only tests passive/structural stability and says nothing about functional stability, strength, mobility, balance etc. all of which are important in return to play decision making.

It's hard to help from afar! We'd definitely recommend you to see a local physio or general practitioner in your area though!
