Miss Granger, did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

The second brother represents "envy"? What? Are we reading the same story? He wasn't jealous of anyone. If you're reaching to fit the brothers' desires into sins, the closest one for the second brother would be greed. Even the wizards know that one can never undo death. He KNEW that bringing his fiance back to life was not possible, but he got greedy and asked for it anyway. Summary of the (likely) in-universe reality - Peverell brothers are powerful wizards who lived hundreds of years ago and made these artifacts for their own reasons - the power and/or utility of these artifacts becomes well-known and stories spring up around them (with a lot of embellishment, as these sorts of things tend to attract), one of them eventually becoming the "Tale of the Three Brothers" fairy tale - the Elder Wand continuously changed owner through bloodshed because many wanted its power - the Resurrection Stone passed down (apparently unknowingly) through the second brother's family (set in a ring that was a treasure of the Gaunt family and eventually turned [the ring] into a Horcrux by Voldemort) - the Invisibility Cloak passed down (knowingly) through the third brother's family (Harry's ancestors, which he figures out after hearing the story and connecting the dots), and Harry intends to continue that tradition

So true but I think that there is a connection between Dumbledore, Voldemort and Harry as THE ELDER WAND which the first brother had, has now been passed by generation to generation and Dumbledore was the last who had it. THE STONE of second brother is the same which Voldemort had and was given to him by his mother. THE INVISIBILITY CLOAK which belonged to the third brother and it has shown clearly that he gave the cloak to his son before going to the death, and Harry had his cloak given by Dumbledore as it belonged to his father, James. So I think the story is obviously REAL as there is many evidences about it.

It's actually funny, but both Harry and Voldemort are descended from the Peveril Family. The Resurrection Stone was passed on through the Gaunt Family, which was Tom Riddle's mother, Merope Gaunt, who used a Love Potion on Thomas Riddle Sr., and they had a half-blood son. The brother who gained the power of the Invisibility Cloak eventually passed it on to the descendants of his family, who became the Potter family, hence James Potter passing it on to his son Harry. Now, I don't believe the older brother passed on the wand to anyone in his family, if he even had a family. But the Elder Wand eventually fell into the hands of a young Gellert Grindelwald after being stolen from Gegorovich, the wand maker. So, really, the story of the Three Brothers comes back full circle as it's a family feud. So, in hindsight, Harry becoming the master of death and gaining control of the three Deathly Hallows is his ultimate birthright.

So I imagine that it wasn't really death who appeared before them but some Dark Wizard in disguise. A Dark Wizard who had been plaguing the land and would've been recognized by the Brothers and realized that they were being tricked if said Dark Wizard had shown his true face. And maybe it was that same Dark Wizard who killed the first Brother and stole the Elder Wand, somehow took possession of the Resurrection Stone after the second Brother died, but the third Brother somehow saw through the villain's trick and had gotten the Invisibility Cloak from him and later went to duel him to protect his child. This is all a theory, though...a *film* theory!

Great job animating their attitudes when claiming their prizes. 1st Brother/Wand: Gave no acknowledgement to Death and simply walked off. 2nd Brother/Stone: Looked Death in the face and most likely smirked at him. 3rd Brother/Cloak: Paid respect to Death and thanked Death for the gift.

3rd brother was a just a simple man. He never desire for power or anything that make one superior. For him, living an honest and noble life was enough for him. Of course he avoid being seen in years, but when he was finally found, he truly accept it. He greeted death knowing he was truly alive. Knowing he live for all he worth.

Voldemort dies for power like the first brother. Snape dies for love like the second brother. And Harry greets Death as an old friend like the third brother.
