You reminded me of an in incident fresh out of college at work about 45 minutes away from my highly Muslim populated home. I have a had scarf on and not burka, face exposed and western clothing, only my hair covered, normal hijab. Went out normal in my hometown. So at work during lunch my “American coworkers” and I decided decided to go to a local restaurant for lunch. As we walked in to a full restaurant, everyone became silent and all heads turned and looked at me. All I could say is “all eyes on me.” I just smiled, waved, and walked along to our tables. Had a great lunch with smiles and laughs. We Muslim women are not oppressed. We are highly educated, confident, respectable women. Yes ,you are free but in west and by rulls of demokrati and human rights in west not by islamic rulls, you can divorce, keep your child, choose your clothing....and many otherthings which is a dream for many women in most muslim countries. Wearing a Hija is 100% depended on who rulls in middeleast or muslim countries, scince late 80 and 90,s more country are rulld by muslim leader and since then you see more and more women wearing hijab, which it was quit different in 50s,60,s and 70s no women had hijab, so it is quit obvious that it is highly effekted by aeras political map.... of course in many countrys now in last few decades it has not been achoice but a force and all system and edjucation is on their hand. The effect of this few decades show itselfe in a very wide brainwash all over women who claim " hijab is our identy!!!!!"without knowing any thing about history and rulls of those country and women rolls in history.....Hijab is higly dicided by who rulls in middeleast. By your hijab in west you support more and more your systers unfair and unjustice situation in the east muslim countries. If you are educated learn som history and political hisorty ...... I appreciate the naive willingness you hold for accepting the public clothing imprisonment demonstrated by individuals who openly show they are not interested in me, myself, I. To cover yourself entirely is a statement of isolation and obedience to patriarchal cultures (cultures in which men dress as they please). I remember trying to ask a Samalia Women about her coverings. She glared at me and walked 5 steps away and faced the opposite direction. I generally give compliments to women and men, who have made an effort to look exceptional and stand out. I have been taught and encouraged to treat Muslim Women as Muslim Men/Boys do, invisible. In the west the face is critical. You turn and look at the face, eyes, and facial expression when talking to someone. If someone is hiding their face it comes off as unpleasant and uninviting and gives off the subconscious vibe that you aren't interested in having a conversation. @munasfam31743 жыл бұрын
So just because you feel uncomfortable while talking to that person in that small moment, she must take such a drastic step as removing it entirely? Don't you think that's extremely selfish? How about you just get used to it? The niqab is worn in several countries and regions but no one minds, everyone's used to it. It's almost as if you haven't watched the tedtalk at all. It's not so much as about the person wearing it, but the person perceiving it.
@mariemunzar6474 Жыл бұрын
@@munasfam3174 you could turn that around though and say the person covering their face is being selfish for doing it not caring that it makes others uncomfortable.....it goes both ways......in polite society you try and make others feel comfortable around you if possible.....although it is technically your choice what you wear.....a little self reflection is needed sometimes though, are you wearing something distracting or are you wearing something that matches the time, place, and situation you're in so that you blend in well in a healthy way?
