I read this one last year and loved it. It seemed very King to me, but it could have been Straub doing his best as King. I liked that it was a big epic story but it was still self-contained. It sure got going fast, and it doesn't end until I thought I would run out of pages. A very cool quest.

The beam and turtle are all over this! This book was the origin story. The talisman may very well be black 13! If not, it's definitely one of the bends o' the rainbow.

My second time picking up this book and I can’t get through it to get to any “ good parts “ hopefully someone else can enjoy it. Once I put it inside a little free library.

The Talisman has to be the most divisive SK novel. No gray area; people either love it or hate it. I personally loved it. It's in my top-10

I really loved the Talisman. It of course was connected to the Dark Tower series, that's why it has a lot of similarities. From what I've heard, King and Straub took turns writing chapters from an overall outline. I've heard that some people claim they can tell who wrote each chapter.

First, rue - the - day, but when Sai’s no longer … able to produce, everyone’ll be savoring every word he’s ever written through a new lens, and I’m proud to say this book was PURE DELIGHT for me, and I avoided his “fantasy/Tower” stuff till I hit 50. I wouldn’t’ve been able to go along for that ride in my younger, more cynical days. *Second, here’s how you can _easily_ detect the STRAUB chapters/passages: Any chapter missing the following words/phrases … •trundle •companionably •arc sodium light •nipples •crowbarred-in past participle of “lay” (“had lain”) •a character stifling a giggling fit w his hand(s) to keep from laughing at a VERRRY lame, unfunny line (that’s a HUGE clue) •wanly •a character describing a stench with “It ain’t Chanel No. 5.” •blood tasting like pennies •a character getting a “stitch” in his side from exertion. •panties •”put paid to” •poultice 😮‍💨🤦‍♂️ … I’m bleary as the hour’s late, but that’s a good primer; I’m sure other CR’s can add aplenty to this list, which barely scrapes the surface of overused words/phrases. 🤷‍♂️😅✌️

I've read The Talisman 3 times, liking it less each time. The plan for the last read was to get me ready for Black House. I have yet to complete Black House. It starts off really, really weird, and I couldn't get into it. But I will eventually, perhaps even this year. By the way, I have moved up The Forgetting Moon from later in the year to this month, after finishing Malice by John Gwynne. I usually read 2 or 3 books at a time, and I will be starting Stephen King's latest book Later tomorrow. Richard Nell's Kings of Paradise will follow up Later. I'm looking forward to your books.

@@KK-zb3xc I know exactly what you mean. I’ve heard people say that once you get past that odd beginning, the structure changes to that of a normal book. I’m still going to give it another shot.
