I use a plum line hanging at 10 yards to level my scopes vertical crosshairs

Nice vid mate, thank you. I've been advising folks (mostly noobs) for ages that head position, eye relief and cheek weld determines mounts and scope, not the other way round.

Although that was possibly basic in your mind, because of the narrative, It was the best and most helpful explanation on the use of a scope that I have come across . Even though I think I know what I'm doing. It is brilliant to get an explanation confirming that I do. We all tend to doubt ourselves Thanks from . Gra J

Another great video Nick. My second hand HW95K came with a 1" tube 3-9x40 scope high mounts. I had more chin weld than cheek weld! Just tonight I fitted a Hawke Airmax 30 SF compact 3-12x40 on low mounts. 30mm tube meant I can mount it closer to the breech with a few mm clearance on the objective. I now have cheek and decent groupings for the first time with this rifle.

Great info and advice. Currently I have a Mamba Ultra-lite 3-10x30 bdc on my HW90k (11.5flb) and a Vector Calypos 3x32 prism on my HW99s (10flb) and I think they match each other very nicely. I also own a Daystate Mk3 RT B (2003) and I am looking for a nice little period scope for it. It sort of has a period scope that came with it but its a Simmons aetec 6 20x50 that is just too much. It is only used rested so its not too bad.

On my opinion the best scope for the HW30, 50/99S is still the Hawke airmax 2-7X32AO. The Airmax has a finer crosshair and half dots. The crosshair from the vantage covers often the pellet holes. I have Airmax scopes on all my HW's and never had an issue. The eye relieve you always try on different magnifications...On 3X it can be right but not on 9X...It has to be the full field of view and crisp at all magnifications. Cheers!

Nice one Nick. It s a shame, I really like the look of that BSA, and I am down to my last 11 or so air rifles, (pistols dont count). Totally agree on scopes, though if you have no brass , most scopes are better than nowt. But keep one on open sights, good for the eyes to work a bit. All the best . Keith

Great advice regarding scopes , Seeing hubble telescopes on springers is just plain daft and like you say spoils balance ,looks and handling . I tend to shoot on 6 mag these days for hunting , plinking and target cards. Quality glass is where its at ,, I can see .177 pellet holes in card at 50 meters on 6 mag using a leupold 3-9x33 efr . Depth of field as you rightly put it is a massive benefit hunting . Magnification is glorified too much by retailers , To put things into perspective 1000 yard shots are taken at events with 10x scopes at 24x24 inch targets , physics tells us 12x12 inch tagets can be taken at 500 yards , 6x6 inch targets at 250 yards ect Of course clear quality glass is required , and that should be the focus when choosing a scope ,,, pun intended 😊

I find the Hawke range act like a tuning fork on springer.

I think it’s either the Varmint or Vantage which are the worst for that

@@tbtairrifletuning1520 My fastmount made a kind of wet finger round a wine glass effect after each shot.

CVLife I think😎.....great video Nick, myself I need high mag scopes, even for 25mtrs as my sight is v poor, in my glasses I look like Mr Magoo but joking aside, i have tried low mag ones and it's crazy hard to focus on a paper a bullseye, even a 3-9×40 ao is a struggle. Even have a konus pro 6-24x44 on my HW50s😂

Me being a Tart decided to by a silver scope for my nickel actioned 97 because I thought it would look good? The most affordable one I found other than extremely expensive premium brands was a Westhunter, one visit to the club ruined it! It didn't like a big old spring underneath it😂 I tried it back in a PCP and it won't hold zero for very long 😢 a standard black 4-16 Hawke Airmax now sits on it with no problem at all , two tins of pellets later , it's also short enough for me to get my thumb in to load it which is another thing to consider

Very nice video, have never seen a so good video that explain a scop mount so simple. 🖖 By the way, a hammer is fool proof. 😂🔨

Give this some thought fellow airgunners, the standard British weapon, the SA80 L85, has a Susat optic of 4x, and talking to ex military they zero at around 200-300 yards. We've all seen people shooting at 10 yards with optics that can spot a mouse on the moon, haven't we? If you're only going to shoot sub 50 yards do you really need a huge powerful scope?? well the people who shoot other people at long distances in wars obviously think not, and they spend a lot of time and money on research. PS, fixed focus for hunting everyday, look and shoot, 4-10 x plenty.

The only thing that matters with scopes is GLASS. The Quality of the lens. I like two Makes. Optisan and Delta Optics. You Pays your money and makes your choice.

It would be nice I a data source would exist wher scopes are listed that don't do out of zero on springers. I have seen in the Internet many scopes in videos that don't hold zero on spring rifles.

Yo Nick,,good vid ,,informative,,,and have you tried a red dot yet ,? I got one and it's real good for general shooting,,at around 40 yds it's ok ,but further and the dots too big ,,but for farmyard it's magic and fast ,,,lovely stuff

I have several, mainly on handguns and one on a carbine. Very good for fast shooting

🤣🤣🤣 i have a 32 mag on my springer 🤣🤣🤣🤣 but i have bats eyes and shoot bench rest . silly little targets at 25 yards 😵💫😵💫😵💫 . but the scope is a sightron so not cheap . buy once cry once . definitely buy the best scope you can one your budget that’s for sure . and the right scope for your discipline. no point in a 32 mag scope for hunting but not so good a9 mag scope for bench rest
