These comments about the woman living off the government because she is lazy is making me sick to my stomach , this attitude is exactly why many people are in this situation. We aren't in the bloody Victorian times , people aren't in this situation because of their actions , it's the circumstances they were born into . Show this family and the others like it some human compassion and maybe we'd progress as a society . We are one of the richest countries in the world and people literally get their meals from the food bank it's so heartbreaking 😩. Then people end up in a vicious cycle of poverty , and just so you people who aren't on benefits can still have the same struggles , so don't be so quick to judge people .

A nice stay in a retreat, some healthy food and exercise and a home with a job offer is all this family needs to get back on their feet. I know a lot are saying that she’s sponging and that she should help herself, but that’s not how chronic depression works. It’s a vicious cycle of illness, that effects absolutely everything in your life and sometimes it’s difficult just to put one foot out of bed. Yes a lot of people with a bad back still go out to work and crawl themselves out of terrible situations, but this women just needs a help back up. First of all I feel that I must say that to anyone who has been made redundant from work then I am very sorry about that, as it has happened to me and I know what you are going through. I am married, and I have a now grown up Son. I am well in to my 50's and have worked hard for all that I have, I began work at 16 in the construction industry and worked very hard to keep food on the table and pay the bills, as many people do. After working at the same company for almost 30 years I was made redundant, and was unemployed on two occasions. Since that time, I have found work and have eventually completed my mortgage. No one helped me to do this, I did this all alone. I see people on the streets begging when there is no need, they can go to the local council which must help them by law, by providing shelter and benefits until such time that these individuals can get a job. And even the councils do often offer them work to help them get on their feet, but for the most part this will require some commitment from them. Often they are not willing to agree to the offer from the council and they end up back on the street, which is their choice. As for people on benefits, I have to ask myself why are they on benefits? If they are disabled then that is understandable, but many prefer to be out of work, as they get more in benefits than they would on the minimum wage. Surely if these people have been out of work for more than 3 Months then they should have to work picking up litter and cleaning graffiti from walls etc, if they do this than they can keep their benefits until such time as they find work for themselves, but it is morally wrong to live off other peoples tax payments. Welfare is for those who need help, and not those who can't be bothered to get off their backsides and go to work, especially as there are numerous jobs available at the moment. I hear people talk about food banks, well if people were to go to work then they would not need them, food has never been cheaper than it is at the moment, and food banks have been around for decades, they are not a new thing at all, but people could be forgiven for thinking that they are a new thing as no one spoke about them in the past. As for Poverty, well in the 1920's that meant not having a roof over your head, and not having decent clothing and food of any kind, but in the year 2018 when benefits are available, and shelter is provided if requested, then it means a different thing altogether. Poverty in 2018 is not the same as it was in the 1920's, today people class themselves as being in poverty if they do not have a TV. There is not a single person out there who could not do what I did, and get a job and care for themselves, they need to because I am sick of paying for the idle when they have the same tools as I have, I am not a professor, and I do not have a degree, but I have the will to pay my way in life, and I feel better for having done that, it is just a shame that I have had to pay for others when they could pay for themselves. I know people will reply with sob stories, but there is no excuse. morally we should either work, or receive nothing at all. As stated earlier, I am not including the disabled, or the mentally impaired, but as for Poverty, well compared to the past, there is no such thing today.

Greece was in crisis for years, we never had these kind of problems. Even if you earn the lowest salary 550 EUR NET you can rent a normal appartment (With 200 EUR) and have a normal life. Sometimes Greek people go to London to work because it is overestimated. Finally they end up to live 2 - 3 ppl in the same appartment because the rents are crazy, and ofcourse they go back to Greece to have a low salary but at least to live as human beings. Unfortunately, London, and in general UK is not as what it used to be before 30 years. Rent prices compared to net salary are imbalanced. There should be a ceiling

Please don’t anyone take this in the wrong way it’s not meant to be a racist comment, but unfortunately in Britain a lot of black men who have babies with white women or black women generally walk out and leave them it’s a very sad fact Which is unfortunately true

Chloe D'Souza i live i a very multicultural area and its full of single Mothers with black mixed-race children in my experience from living here black men don’t tend to stick around and be fathers they have multiple children with multiple women, this is what I see maybe where you live this doesn’t happen but it does where I am, also according to Wikipedia in America 70% of black children are born to single mothers

You just have to look at the parent to understand why they’re in the situation they’re in. I’m surprised that Britain’s version of the department of children and families is not intervened in the situation. She cannot provide for these children.

Some of these comments are srsly so annoying, everyone's entitled to their own opinion and I respect that. But when ppl go as far as saying that everyone on benefits is lazy, I get rly aggravated. As someone who's from a family that relies on benefits, I can tell you that my parents are in no way lazy. Some illnesses aren't visible to the eye, and things like depression and anxiety can stop you from working efficiently. Some ppl who rely on benefits ARE lazy, and they make the majority of us look bad. Its sad that to this day, ppl are still living in poverty in the UK, and its never as easy as 'just getting a job'.

Drugs are ultimately a choice, even though that's a fairly obtuse way of seeing the issue. Being ill and losing your job, being ill and unable to work is not a choice.
