I liked Infinity Pool more than most movies this year so it was nice seeing it pop up on your list. I recently saw Poor Things and wow it was amazing. I agree with it being #1

Of the movies I saw, I'll go with Trenque Lauquen. It's not even that crazy of a pick since one of the most famous film reviewing publication in the world, Les Cahiers du Cinéma, also picked it!

Have you seen origin yet? Idk if it's considered a 2023 or 2024 release but I hear it's very very good.

Some great films, although to me Godzilla was pretty much ruined by the ending (the first reveal I mean, not the 2nd one)

Not a good list. It is like playing safe. Oppenheimer, really!? Consumer films. Where is new Kaurismaki, Erice... Cinema is dying with the blockbuster titles as these.

Other than the fact the artistic merits of a film have little to no correlation with its commercial success, it is important to note that almost all films are "consumer films". They just happen to target different audiences and/or get produced through different avenues, but at the end of the day consumers are paying for these tickets.

Very disappointing. One or two exceptions to a very mediocre year for Cinema. Oh, and Mr Brandon please learn from your father the importance of narrative in storytelling. As for Beau, the most overrated turd in a long time. Then again, that is what you get in very bad years, pretentious overrated mediocre films. That said, Killers and Poor Things were excellent.

Almost forgot that Oppenheimer was a competent movie, but why waste so much time, budget, and actors on the story of a good bureaucrat? Might as well have done a movie on Josef Kramer, at least he died seven times, all across Germany, in Argentina, and in Brazil, and yet reports from Jews who had seen him during the war of him still alive and kicking in 1970s Austria kept on coming and being ignored. After all, he was among friends. Now, if that is not an interesting story... As opposed to the boring life of a good "pencil pusher".

Nice to see you don't let your narrative affect your opinions of films 😂
