Explosive power in snatch pull comes from legs first, then the traps. Common mistake in beginners is that they start pulling with arms, then remember about leg extension and tip forward as a result. While it should be another way around. Straps are also good to help keep arms relax, biceps shouldn't be doing any work here. However since the movement is explosive, arms will naturally bend. Good cue is to focus on pointing eblows up, not behind. And to pull as violent as possible in the final phase so shoulders would almost touch ears.

Agree.. although most people aren't interested in Olympic lifting per se.. so the movement doesn't have to get too complicated. violent triple extension, immediately followed by pulling/shrugging the Traps.. very limited range of motion. I've gotten up into the 300's on these and literally felt like my Traps grew a good amount in a span of a few weeks. The elbows up cue is a good one, and straps for sure a good idea as I stated in the video. Thanks for the comment, great info!

Theres only an upper and middle no such thing as lower traps. All u need is cable shrugs using a functional trainer machine handle in each arm or cable crossover machine nothing else
@SwoleTown3 ай бұрын
@@trapps75 Thanks for the comment.. you are incorrect here for a few reasons. The Traps are divided into 3 distinct parts.. the lower traps have fibers running upwards and diagonal vs the middle running horizontal. This is because they assist in depressing the scapula. This level of nuance I don’t usually get wrapped up in, though.. as it isn’t super relevant from a practical perspective. Now, go say “all you need is a cable” is not a good hill to die on, for the traps or any other muscle group.. for too many reasons to list here.

@@SwoleTown your right the fibers in traps run different ways but it's still 1 muscle it's not separated from top to middle
@SwoleTown3 ай бұрын
@@trapps75 Agree, it is one muscle, but it is separated into different areas that do serve different functions.. The only real relevance the discussion has is can you target different areas of the Traps? And you can, vs. only doing regular barbell shrugs, elevating the scapula, and not really hitting the middle and lower portions of the muscle. I guess the point really is, hitting them with variety is a good thing.. the lower portion of the Traps tend to be underdeveloped.. the middle traps do get hit hard with heavy rows.. the upper Traps that you see in the mirror, is what people focus on because it's what they see. Good discussion man, appreciate the comments!
@trapps753 ай бұрын
@@SwoleTown yes u can target different areas of traps with cable shrugs all u have to do is step away from machine going backwards and it becomes a shrug/row and it targets middle portion or u can turn around and walk forward and it targets different areas that's if using functional trainer machine if using cable crossover your just walking forward away from machine or walking backwards away from machine

@@trapps75 You "can" hit your traps, or most other muscle groups, with cables, of course.. that in no way means that is the optimal way to do so. Not only from a muscle growth perspective, but from a strength perspective. Cables are cool, I use them quite a bit.. but to say that is the only thing you should do is wrong, to say it is optimal is also wrong. curious to see your Traps.. assuming they are huge with the amount of vigor you're defending this argument with?
