Agree completely. The first and second films wouldn't be what they are if it wasn't for Michael's amazing performance of setting up the world with his description of what happens in the future and his honest performance as Kylie Reese, one of the most tragic characters in cinema. His whole existence is to know nothing but horrible war and then to die protecting the woman he loves for his son he never new he had.
@miltontavares9506Ай бұрын
Michael Biehn was phenomenal as Reese. He mixed the physicality and vulnerable of a character who knows nothing about the world he is in but he is willing to protect the mother of his future leader.

I think this 4k is probably the best in Cameron's catalog, the blu ray has way too much teal going on. This 4k gives it a more balance filmic look with grain visible

I agree 100 percent with you guys.i cannot watch terminator 2 anylonger, but the terminator is an absolute masterpiece. Simple,horrifying and brilliantly paced.a simple horror in the same category as Halloween or alien. Just a great film.no nonsense.
@AlSumaitАй бұрын
The original Terminator was such an original idea and Arnold’s performance was such an incredible one. I like the low budget feel that it has, giving the director limits and making the most of what he had. I prefer it more to the second one, but I still hold T2 as one of my favorite action movies ever. But for some reason, the original was always a bit underrated because of T2 being so much more popular. A lot of people got to watch the second before the first one.

Micheal Biehn and Tom Berenger are the masters at playing the military role so well. Biehn was in The Rock for 10 minutes and the shower scene might be one of the most iconic scenes in action films to me.

Great video. Love these deeper dives. The first two terminators have a special place in my childhood. Saw the first one way too young on VHS and my memory is how scary it was… particularly Arnold. I always remember how it seems his flesh is pretty much rotting off as he’s injured. Then it later films it becomes a plot point that it can repair/reheal. Then T2 came out when I was around 14 , and it was one of the first films where I was hyped about it from seeing the trailers, at a time when I was first going to see movies by myself. Of course it blew me away. At that time, T2 was my favourite but in recent years it’s clear to me that the original is the best. It’s lean, simple, uncompromising and just so thrilling. I have the new T1 steelbook - you’re right, the picture quality is great. I’m no purist or expert on these things, but it seems to me that Terminator and Titanic look great, as does The Abyss. But Aliens looks odd to me. And True Lies is very strange looking but I’m not a fan of that film. Cheers guys! Great to see you growing in success.

To me, this movie is perfect blend of horror and sci-fi, combined with some incredible action sequences too. All the performances are amazing, the score is legendary, and it has probably the greatest premises for any sci-fi movie. It's amazing, and I agree with Russ, this is James Cameron best movie.
@jameswallace756Ай бұрын
The Terminator, I agree with you, is the superior film. For me, it’s Cameron’s masterpiece. I love this film and dialogue in it makes T2 obsolete which that film is basically a Disney-fied cover version of its predecessor. My 13 year-old version of myself hates me for this opinion. This 4K transfer is reference quality. Love this disc.

Terminator 2 is even more violent than the first, it just has more levity, but it really wasn't toned down at all. Michael Beihn's Kyle Reese was pretty solid, he played that role perfectly with the intensity of someone that would have PTSD. Watch Dark Fate to really appreciate his performance here.

I've always prefered The Terminator over T2. It's definitely a horror film, and I'll always remember the first time I watched it in the mid 90s. The 4K is awesome. I wish the steelbook was dark too. It doesn't compliment the look and tone of the film but it is what it is. Congrats on 10K subs btw, nice work.

Fuck no this is not a horror movie. Not every cat and mouse movie falls into that genre. I was never frightened by this movie while watching it when I was younger. Not until the end sequence. Certainly there are horror elements, but I definitely wouldn't take it that far.. Anyways.. Yeah the viewing experience was great lol I enjoy seeing the AI create a sharper image than what a traditional 4K scan ever could. Probably the version I will watch the most. Just a little disappointing that we don't also get a completely unaltered version to go with it. One with the mono track and also without the AI enhancements, teal color timing and CGI knife. Just kinda goofy that you have to go all the way back to a DVD from 97 to get all that.
@russceasetheruss5360Ай бұрын
I hear you, but out of curiosity, would you say the same about Jaws? I would describe it the way you described Terminator (minus the ending being scary, but I'll give you the classic jump scare dead head popping up part in exchange).
@mikettc7803Ай бұрын
I'm with Russ on this one. T1 is truly terrifying, T2 is slicker but ultimately tame in comparison. Overall I was disappointed with this transfer. It loses some of the gritty tone (the HDR highlights are overdone and make the visuals imbalanced) and the AI enhancements are too obvious at times. I popped in the blu-ray after watching and the big benefits of the 4K are superior colours and the typical resolution improvements (less banding and higher bitrate) but I still prefer the HD version.

One thing i find hilarious is no other film (T2) has so many sequels that arent connected to each other at all.

@davidbent347Ай бұрын
Really not fair down playing Michael Biehns performance imo... As well as being a sci-fi horror its also a love story & extremely well acted... The reason you feel the horror is because you're invested in the chemistry between Biehn & Hamilton & wanting them to survive... They allow the audience to empathise with them completely... The guy has never loved in his entire life & its believable... The love scene is really poinient with the piano score reflecting the difference... How do you not acknowledge this element of the film? Lol!
@TomGur147Ай бұрын
T2 is far better imo. I’ve never really loved the Terminator though. Just my preference. The ending ruins it for me, with Sarah Connor blindly reaching around for the buttons that she has no idea are actually there or what they’ll do, she suddenly decides that she knows which button and what it’ll do so confidently that she pauses before hitting it and says “you’re terminated fucker” that really didn’t fit with the movie. I just watched the 4k, it’s a good transfer. Terribly vanilla package though. Single disc in a vanilla skinny amray case…Deserves some kind of chunky box set, booklet, new extras, especially with the current state of AI.
@Bigtymer781Ай бұрын
I like T2 better also, but T1 is good. The other funny thing about the ending, after the Terminator rises up out of the fire, he's still injured from getting hit by the truck and he can't walk fast. Instead of running away down the street, Sarah goes into a building where she'll be trapped inside with the Terminator. I guess it's because Reese is injured too.
@TomGur147Ай бұрын
@ yeah good point. I also think the “I love you Sarah, I always have” was really corny and just didn’t feel earned or realistic to the audience. A single photo of a dead woman from the past…are you serious!!!😆

@bloodydominations992Ай бұрын
It’s certainly the weakest of the three, but I like what they did with T3. They didn’t ignore the events of T2, it just delayed the inevitable and eventual ascent of technology taking over. I think that’s a realistic take, and in a lot of ways we are living it right now. I love the bleak ending, and this is the last solid role for Arnie before he became the Governator. It’s best to pretend the rest of the movies don’t exist. 😂

I never saw it, but heard about the ending and thought it was ballsy.
