It still amazes me how much thought and logic is put in every scene. Why would the Terminator need to steal the truck? The answer for most modern movies would just be 'that would look way cooler'. But in this case the reason can be clearly seen. The Terminator lost all of its firearms after the fall, and its chassis received a lot of damage, rendering him unable to run, only walk slowly. The Terminator understood that it is unable to chase the target on foot in its current state, and decided to use a vehicle to remedy that.

God, this movie is so good. Just the little detail of him shooting out the side view mirror to make it harder for sarah to track of him is so good. These little details are what make the Terminator so terrifying. And this is what the newer terminators completely miss. There just isn't any subtlety to any of the Terminator movies after T2.

@blackops95722 жыл бұрын
@@brownedbutter4707 True, but she's also a moving target. She wasn't just sitting in the seat. Every time the terminator shot at her she ducks or swerves the car. Plus you can see she was constantly looking at the mirror to keep track of the terminator. Once that rear view is gone think about how much harder it would be to see where he's at.

You forgot realism. Good movies need to be realistic - what you see could be possible and is plausible. Another good example for this is Aliens from 1986. All of Cameron's movies have this realism which makes them great to watch even after decades. Keep it realistic. Could become true. It is that simple. And that is one of many of today's big budget movies flaws - they often contain major plausibility flaws which makes them unrealistic. As I said - it's that simple.

It still stands up incredibly well today as with the film's effects in general. Not tacky & hasn't 'dated' the movie at all. Its very angular and brutal and works superbly with the whole context of the film. But as one commenter has pointed out, the soundtrack (music and general sound effects) has been remastered and re dubbed. I can understand wanted to enhanced the enjoyment of this movie but the monophonic soundtrack particularly on the 'final' where Terminator after several attempts to destroy it is still deadly. Its surviving operating head & torso crawls through the press in a final attempt to kill Sarah but she manages to terminate the Terminator. The original sound was more haunting and disturbing compared to the enhanced modernised sound track where the sparks. mechanical noises are more prominent in the mix than the music some what lessoning the emotional impact.

The Terminator is possibly the greatest "B-movie" ever made. By that i mean, it is the greatest low-budget sci-fi ever produced. The Terminator is a great inspiration for future filmmakers. Cameron showed us what can be possible on a small budget and its freaking amazing. T2 on the other hand is the greatest action movie ever made. Cameron showed us whats possible once youve established yourself in the industry. And its freaking phenomenal. I just wish we could get a new 5.1 remix for The Terminator. The .45 longslide should sound like a freaking cannon. The audience should be just as shocked and stunned by that weapon as Sarah Connors neighbors after the Terminator blew her head off. Theres an interesting deleted scene revealing the aftermath where Sarah Connors neighbors are running around in complete panic mode. But the newest 5.1 remix makes all of these bad**s weapons sound like squeaky toys, including the shotguns. You cant feel anything from a sound effect like that.

You know these events were in the news probably for weeks all over LA tracing back to the technoir scene so it kinda makes it more tragic for Sarah when she’s in the asylum cause these other people were there to witness the terminators carnage. All the people who escaped from technoir, the police station surveillance, the motel people from where the terminator stayed and Sarah and Kyle stayed at, and all the cars and truck drivers especially the guy who was told by the terminator to get out! I know they were just played as extras and such but still what were their lives like after going through their experiences even during T2. I know they saw on the news that Sarah was put in the asylum so I wonder if they were either bribed by cyberdine or were afraid to end up in an asylum like Sarah cause what they witnessed was unbelievable but they still went through it like Sarah
@NewStarConstellation2 жыл бұрын
True, but the explanation was given in the police station scene - they believed the Terminator was a guy massively on narcotics. Even with all the witnesses AND the cover-up (see T2 movie) of the remnants of the Terminator in the hydraulic press it still would be hard to believe that it was a machine from the future for the very most of people.... so they would probably stick to the first theory, for their own peace of mind too. People work that way, it is not really far-fetched how Sarah ended in the asylum.

The mono sounds in this scene were so awesome. The music just before he kicks the motel door was louder, as he's shooting in the room you mostly only heard the brutal old school sound of the gun. Then not to mention the motorcycle really revving up, pipebombs making a Bang and the Dirty Harry revolver sound. Not sure, but i think just before the camera cuts to Sarah and Kyle running in the tunnel flanked by the tanker, the soundtrack really ramps up ,all loud volume, making it frenetic, thats also missing here, they lowered volumes in places! Damn i wish the movie would get re-released on DVD and Bluray with old sounds added or as an extra to switch to! I just can never got over why someone decided to scrap the coolness with "high quality sounds".

Erikclreic notice the symbolism at 3.06 when his final weapon hits the rear view mirror destroying Sarah's reflection. She's no longer the Sarah of her past and now a changed incredibly strong woman ready to fight, be resourceful and survive. Her reflection being gone helps better define that. God I love good films

@@patriceaqa288 Very interesting symbolism you picked up yea! Right after that happens she does her first offensive move against the Terminator. I just bought the US special edition to replace my nordic dvd, all for those brutal gun sounds in it! :D

@@Erikcleric Why they change the sounds I'll never know. The continuation of the franchise is an abomination (in my humble opinion) an incredible film was made, they secured an amazingly brilliant action sequel and THAT should have been THAT
@Erikcleric3 жыл бұрын
@@patriceaqa288 Indeed, some misguided attempt to "modernize" the film i guess. I honestly got no idea, they shouldve known it changes the "feel" and raw danger of the scenes. Yep totally right, the 2nd film was again perfect, i like evil Arnold more tho, scary as hell but yeah the sequels after 2 cant live up to the high standard set so far. Terminator Salvation i felt was "ok" in its serious, grim tone, atleast it took new ground by taking place in the future only.

Agreed I can understand the need to enhance or upgrade older films in this hi fidelity audio and video world to enhanced the enjoyment of this movie but the monophonic soundtrack particularly on the 'final' where Terminator after several attempts to destroy it is still active & deadly. Its surviving operating head & torso crawls through the press in a final attempt to kill Sarah but she manages to terminate the machine. As she presses the button and the press machine starts to crush the Terminator. its malevolent red eye fades symbolising its demise & death. The original sound made the scene more haunting and disturbing compared to the enhanced modernised sound track version now on it, where the sparks. mechanical noises are more prominent in the mix than the music. some what lessoning the emotional impact. This trend for redubbing/enhancing audio I've noticed on newer issues of Jaws (1975) and Duel (1971) where Denis Weaver's (Davis Mann's) red Plymouth Valiant car engine is slightly less bassy than the original sound. Though the general ambient noises are better sounding and in stereo (as the original film was in mono.

Dang, Sarah, your biggest mistakes were giving the Terminator the name and the number of the motel you were staying at! If you hadn't done that, the Terminator probably wouldn't have found you in the first place!

You could also see the T-800's vision starting to flicker and glitch as it was looking at the truck's controls. At this point of the movie, the T-800 was taking on more and more battle damage.

Compare this to the fecal matter in Terminator: Dark Fate, or Terminator: Genisys, or any of the other crappy sequels, with the obvious exception of Terminator II--which, in my opinion, is even better than the original. What happened? Hollywood forgot how to make good movies and something should be done about it!
