Cars without crumple zones also don't necessarily reduce the damage done to the car. They reduce damage to the most visible parts of the car but cars without crumple zones pose a greater risk to the internal components hidden under the hood like the engine and transmission.

when rich capitalists drink their own koolaid and actually believe in meritocracy, meaning their godly amounts of wealth must mean that they are gods and super-geniuses that can do no wrong. Elon's entire worldview hinges on the the idea that he MUST be a genius, otherwise his entire political philosophy collapses, because meritocracy can't be true if he's actually a moron. The super wealthy must have massive ego's and believe themselves to be gods among men, or else their wealth is not justifiable, and they can never admit that to themselves, much less the world.

Musk doesn't really "run" any of his businesses. He just buys businesses, or becomes CEO by raising investment (which is what he did with TESLA). Whenever he takes an active role in anything except investment it fails.

Plates spinning in the microwave are way better than non spinning versions. Microwaves have hills and valleys that stay generally the same in the microwave oven and having a spinning plate keeps the food from being cold in one spot and scalding hot in other spots. Also, the greatest microwave innovation was the hidden little trick where if you hold the "2" button for like 3 seconds it turns off all the beeping when you press buttons and the beep when the timer finishes.

My only problem with this current reaction is that the Cybertruck was performing a full frontal test, compared to the offset tests done for the rest of the trucks by the IIHS. Once they get their hands on one, that'll be a REAL doozy to see how well the crash structure actually does its job absorbing impact forces and reducing occupant injury. Many vehicles have already gotten their ratings shaken up for not doing enough to secure and protect rear passengers in impact events, I'm very curious to see how well it'll go with the Cybertruck.

As someone that has worked in Tech since 1996, I absolutely agree with Vaush. Too much tech is about looking cool. Apple, Tesla, Samsung, they are fashion accessories and the latest upgrades are usually minimal, you only need a new phone like every 4-5 years. As far as graphics cards go, they don;t really do "graphics" that much, the cards are unique in how many cores they have, they are amazing for doing physics sims, such as calculating the physics within a game, but yeah, the games themselves are coded really badly.

Seriously, some of the greatest minds in computer science came from east of the iron curtain. Since their hardware was generally worse than their western counterparts, programmers had to write code that was far more efficient. That being said, even western programmers had to do far more optimization of their code until quite recently because of how expensive memory was decades ago.

It's well known that computer speed exists for the developers, not the consumers. If a program runs 100 times slower but was 10 times faster to develop, then it's a program that can be made in a year as opposed to never being made because no one will develop it for 10 years

It’s really not a hard concept to grasp. The goal is for the vehicle to absorb impact energy by crumbling so that the human body receives less of the impact. In the cybertruck or any car from the 60s, the car looks like it holds up better but that means the body is receiving the brunt of the impact thus more severe for the person. Race cars are designed to crumple for a reason…

In a crash you want to be in a Tesla before any other brand. They have consistently delivered the highest rated cars in crash testing. 5.4 stars out of 5 in one case and have been know to break the testing machines. What was shown here was and Apple to Oranges comparison and even with that if you look you can see that the Tesla handled the crash better. The entire vehicle absorbs the force almost simultaneously distributing the force allowing the exoskeleton and the interior frame to flex and absorb the impact while the front trunk is taking the initial brunt. Even the rear wheels tow in to slow the vehicle. It will be interesting to see the real crash test as the current standard testing rig will probably fail as the Cybertruck just may ride right over it. Oh and no pesky steering column to impale the driver. The steering wheel will also give when a body hits it.

As a person who loves programming and has been programming for decades, I absolutely despise the fact that through avarice and the petty ambitions of some emotionally deficient, empathy challenged and spiritually empty morons (bill gates et al) computers have been used to regiment and demean the best aspects of humanity instead of enhancing it. Programming for me has always been a way to create a thought space with a machine, a small universe, a way to liberate the mind. I understand and empathize deeply with people like Terry A. Davis who uses his computer as a temple - arranging things in such a way that the focus is entirely on creating, modifying, exploring. The core user action is to interact with a JIT compiler and interpreter to create and sculpt a living universe. I even agree with Terry or at least deeply empathize with why you shouldn't network the computer - the computer core itself should be the focus, the CPU that is yours to wield to cast spells and summon universes. Networking starts to shift the focus toward using the computer primarily as a communications device, which is the primary way we all use our computers today. In doing so for decades, people have now been trained to be consumers and are being mined for data and manipulated with targeted propaganda like lab rats. Under these conditions, any technological advancement that occurs is primarily motivated by the psychotic desire to further accelerate the regimentation of humans and human spaces that began with enclosures and the industrial revolution. As such announcements of new technologies must be resisted and subverted. All glory to the hackers and the crackers. In conclusion, Vaush for God Emperor!

It got to the point where most people blame themselves when something goes wrong with their computer/printer/whatever when in reality it's all just a trend of cutting cost to a point you almost have to be an engineer yourself to make anything work at all. There really isn't a lot they can do to make them significantly better, but there's always something they can add to improve convenience, and people will pay through the nose for that. Edit: I saw the microwave microphone for popcorn on Technology Connections.

And it takes place mostly in narrow corridors and enclosed settings with relatively few characters on screen. More computing power can lift those restrictions, but at this point in gaming the main limit we're hitting isn't technology. It's not like 1993 where original Doom was uniquely amazing.

I disagree. A game's degree of freedom is its story and creative choices, everything else we try to make as close to reality as possible because it's more immersive, and full realism is computationally demanding. The resolutions needed to cover the entire field of view of a human at maximum resolution (the case in VR for instance) is going to be insanely high, probably like 16k per eye, these necessitate better GPUs. Also every CG image you've seen used full raytracing long before it came to the gaming sphere, it was only recently it became possible to do it in real time (i.e. due to advancements in graphics cards).

The concern I have is how the doors and stainless steel will act after an accident. The doors open via a button and motor, and apparently the door can open even when the gaps are covered in ice. But in a sever enough accident, the door will bend and buckle. Will the motor be able to open the door if when the door is compromised? Other cars with normal doors can jam their doors, but they can still break the window glass... Except Elon specifically bragged about the Cybertruck having shatterproof glass. Finally, the stainless steel is meant to be stronger than the metal used in most car bodies, which is why the Cybertruck didn't deform and just stopped dead in the crash test... How will that affect the work of firefighters using jaws of life to cut people out of wrecked cars?

And separately, the tools that firefighters use are going to have to work harder if the truck is made out of a harder steel. I was perfectly happy using that phone and would have been happy to keep using it a bit longer. I don’t get why people even play the moronic Apple vs Android fan wars fighting over the most meaningless of tech and app features when we are all basically are getting screwed the fuck over every new generation by these huge ass companies. It fucking sucks and I hate living among it.

what terrifies me even more is every single Tesla shill i've asked about this concern, every single reply contains "crash avoidance". and what happens if you get in a situation you, nor a computer can predict or avoid? dont you wanna minimize the damage you take in the case of a crash? even worse is this car is advertised to be fast as shit and have dragster-level accelleration, so the idiocy just goes hand in hand

I like how the rear wheel breaks off on the Tesla. I'm a 40 year experienced tech. My guess is the rear steering tie rod buckled with the weight of the wheel/tire. They have independent suspension not an axle as far as I know.

MKB certainly has his problems - much like most tech KZbinrs do - but to be fair, he did not review the Cybertruck. He was just doing a preview and first thoughts on it - that's it. He literally states in the video that his full review will come later. That said, I do kind of expect him to shill for Tesla because that's what he does. It's a bummer because he used to be a lot less of a shill.

One of the frustrating things about how tech releases are is that because so many new products are being released and so much incentive is to support the new models, you can't even really use old tech for that long. I have a first generation ipad mini that i can't even watch KZbin on anymore because the software isn't the right version. The battery is good, the screen is good, but this is one of the reasons i had to stop using it

However, due to lack of camper shells, the best you can do is sleep in the Tesla truck bed in the open, or with the cover on with no windows or oxygen flow *5.* Again due to lack of camper shells, you can't tie something to the top of it like luggage, bikes, surf boards, etc. *6.* Even if there were camper shells for the Tesla truck, they would have to be custom made specifically to the models which would be EXTREMELY expensive *7.* The Tesla "truck" fails in so many more ways more than one when it comes to being a "truck", it's pathetic. A beat up Ford truck from the 60s unironically has more utility. And I haven't even talked about the specs yet (like the lack of crumple zone). It doesn't matter that the cyber truck has all wheel steering, it has been a thing since the '80s and I watched a few crash tests with early '00s cars and none of their wheels buckled like that. You also can't blame independent axles because only the gladiator has solid ones. Edit: you can also see the windshield shattering and sending shards flying, windshields not only aren't supposed to shatter like that, but I've seen the other trucks crash into the same wall at the same speed and they barely (if at all) cracked.

I'll admit that raytracing is the one graphical technology I've soured on. frame gen is fairly decent, and dlss is amazing, but raytracing has been disappointing. It's ever since I realised that day cycles and raytracing both cause one important thing... lighting inconsistencies. Accurate lighting sounds great on the face of it, but then you realise that you are trading away artistically lit scenes crafted with intent. Spots will look spectacular for a 2 hour window in game, and if you play through that area at another time you could get a shoddy experience by comparison as the are is drained of life by light sources not being directed towards reflective objects or unflattering shadows etc. Its great in indoor areas often, but god it can absolutely ruin outdoor experiences.

In terms of how the crumble zone absorbs energy, a full wall compared to only a part wall is that the part wall excludes the hood from the process. So CT is getting an advantage, but obviously really needs one. BTW, sent from my iPhone 6S. Managers at my employer always need the newest, so lots are in stock for re-use (no boss approval needed😂) and I‘m even generations away from actual re-use stuff. I was watching Jason Cammisa (who I do like) review this truck. They kept bragging about the strength of the metal and showed the side collision test. Its effectively bulletproof but I was worried about the front crash test because of the strength of the metal and how it might actually be too strong. Don't know how much that factors in to that failed test but I see why they didn't show it in the nearly half hour review. Also it's the fastest truck in the world so we will definitely get some real world brick wall tests with these.

The design of collision-safe cars involves constructing the frame in such a way that it absorbs the majority of kinetic energy, and this energy is transferred to the car's structure rather than the passengers. The primary goal is to minimize the forces acting on individuals inside the vehicle during an accident. Structural elements, such as crumple zones, energy absorbers, or special deformation panels, are designed to enhance safety by absorbing energy through controlled deformations, thereby reducing the forces that may impact passengers. Additionally, advanced safety systems, including airbags, seat belts, and stability control systems, are implemented to minimize the risk of injuries in the event of a collision. The entire approach to car design aims to protect the lives and well-being of passengers during potential road accidents. In the context of car collisions, the primary role in absorbing energy is played by the deformation of materials, namely bending and twisting of structures. Friction also plays a certain role, but it's mainly the bending of materials, especially in crumple zones, that allows the absorption of kinetic energy from the collision. In the case of crumple zones, specially designed areas of the vehicle, often located on the front and rear bumpers, are engineered for controlled deformation in the event of a collision. These areas bend and absorb kinetic energy, helping to minimize the forces acting on the rest of the vehicle and its occupants. Friction may also play a role in energy absorption, but primarily through phenomena such as the friction between the tires and the road surface, aiding in slowing down the vehicle. However, when it comes to the vehicle's structural design and absorbing collision energy, it mainly relies on the controlled deformation of structures.
