You should definitely rig the crank start to be an alternate “turn on” switch. Maybe a magnet in the handle and a hall sensor in front of the radiator so it’ll kick on after enough turns at sufficient speed.

Spats (spatter guards) were a covering fitted to the tops and sides of footwear before the 1920s. In their later years spats were primarily a fashion accessory. So, when carmakers started fitting covers over the rear wheels, as a fashion accessory, these were also often called spats.

I felt it when you mentioned all the money for fasteners. My father has a habit of replacing all screws with 316 stainless ones and it triples the cost as well lmao. I believe he spent around $800 in screws when rebuilding a Harley from the bottom up, like literally every single screw on that bike is stainless now. And we're restoring a boat, once we finished the transom+stringers+floor and started rigging everything, hatches, wiring, engines, it was a constant "hold on I gotta go to the hardware store to buy some screws". Like almost every day for an entire week he visited the hardware store lmao.

Matt, Have you seen 3M 8115 Panel Bond adhesive? You could cut the old flange off, get a piece of 16 gauge steel, roll a 1 inch lip into it then bolt it to the car getting the correct shape. Then use 8115 to glue your fenders to the new flange. Throw a few sheet metal screws in to keep it all tight while the adhesive sets and volia...no welding on the car. Bodyshops use it all the time for non-structural joints. I used it for putting quarter panels on my 64 Chevelle (Malibu SS Convertible).

Just a small tip to help the future Matt out. When you put the rivet nuts in, put a tack of weld on the flange with the tig welder. Once the bolt rusts to the nut even slightly, the nut WILL spin in the hole and give you major headache. Welding it will help out immensely. 👍

@@jimrobcoyle It will for sure be positive but there's no way it will hold over time. Especially in the wheelarches. Dirt and grime will wear it off and any threads protruding will still rust, making the nut spin once the rust enters the threads. Probably a non issue if it's only used on the nicest days in the sunniest/driest part of California but anywhere else where you even mention humidity (let alone salt for winter) and it'll cause an issue.

Couple comments for you. 1st, what I would look at doing with the front end rear bumper is actually just get out some old fashioned Chrome Polish you would be amazed at the results you would get on your front end were bumper. Additionally if you have the side pieces to the hood that go between the Fender and the hood I would suggest putting them back on and placing air inlets on both of them and consider putting in a second radiator. Having the air fed to the radiator that is 2nd and a fan that way you can run the warm fluid through the under the hood radiator and then from that to your primary radiator . The benefit of this would be additional cooling capacity and the effect would be additional cooling on the electronics and everything that is dependent upon it.

Great work Superfast! BTW, the Jag would look awesome with some wire wheels and knock on center lock adapters a la TR-6. BTW, some of the threads on the Jag may be BSF (British Standard Fine).

Car designer here 🖐️ The wheels are perfect for the car imo, its a quiet nod to the fact that the Jag is no longer quite what it seems

Yay ! You could seriously consider just leaving the spats off. Spats look silly, even on 1970s Citroëns, it's a pretentious affectation and that's not cool. Jaguar had spats on the modern (ish) xjr 8 & 9 le mans car etc which imho also looked silly and they often left them off so you have precedent. Agree the chrome on the fenders is in a state (as was notorious on all Jags for decades up to and including the mk iii xj6 and 12.) But as a cheaper alternative, just paint them flat black ? Or day glow orange. Whatever. Pitted, meet body filler. Body filler, meet Pitted. After paint no one will ever know. Or care. That Honda oil looked crunchy. Ooops All hail ..
