Usually I bring the shopping cart home. I hope I am a neutral person.

There's at least a third reason to leaving the shopping cart outside the corral that I personally don't find morally incorrect. In the supermarket I used to go, the clients that walk or take public transports there need to climb a few stairs and cross the whole parking lot to go inside the shop. A lot of them are carrying heavy bags once they are done shopping. Some leave the cart next to the stairs before going down. Note that there's 2 small empty spaces next to the stairs, one each side. They are not big enough to any vehicle to park in there, but there's room for a few shopping carts. It ended up creating two organic cart corrals. By leaving the carts there, they are not bring harm to anyone neither making it more challenging to park or drive in the area. In addiction, they can cross the whole parking lot without carrying the weight of there shopping bags. A win-win situation, even by not returning the cart to the official right place.

The practise of inserting a coin into the cart doesn't completely ruin the shopping cart theory as much as you think. There are a few people who insert the coin into the cart and because they put their coin into the cart "it's theirs now". And later use a crowbar to get the coin out anyways. So not completely.

does not putting it back really make them 'immoral'? I think in a lot of cases they are just normal lazy ppl that prioritize comfort/convenience over a strangers inconvenience/comfort. I don't know them personally so how would I know? and how does it serve me to make such a judgement? Maybe they are immoral but even if they are I'd rather live in the world where I believe they were just being lazy, not the world where each and every single one of those people are 'bad'. I always put it back, but I don't think that act alone is what makes me a morally 'good' person (IF I am a good person, I believe that I am, but, that's not really my judgement to make imho) - I believe I am moral because of the sum product of my actions, and by extension the beliefs & ideals that informed my moral behavior, again, not because of some superficial s*** I do at the grocery store to make some minimum wage workers day a little bit easier.

Because results are what prove your morals, not what you say or think. Not a bad take though.

If I see you left a shopping cart out and it happens to roll into my car causing damage don’t be surprised when my fist pops up behind you saying, “Ay yo, rent’s due.” Just saying.
