The Texas Bucket List - Rutledge Hamburgers in Brownsville

I was born in Brownsville, Texas in 1945. I was a shoeshine boy and sold the newspaper in town as a kid. When I would get hungry, I would stop at Rutledge Hamburgers and eat. Ms. Rutledge was a very kind person, and she made some awesome burgers! The memories of this place and Ms. Rutledge will always be in my heart. We left Brownsville in 1974, but when we visit, we stop at Rutledge Hamburgers to eat.

Martin was my moms best friend. He offered it to her first but since my mom was from Matamoros and business wise inexperienced, she was afraid of doing things wrong so she rejected the offer a few times until Martin just sold it to the other lady. Great man Martin was, always treated my mom and I like family.

Hell no. That shit is made with soybeans. That is not real beef. I asked the owner after he started making it if it was real beef and he said no, it's soy meat. I still ate it because I felt bad that it would go to waste and cost him. But it was tasteless. Never again. The same thing with that other place down the street on southmost. For a real burger go to Spanky's.

Believe me I like going to the valley, but I live here in Houston, and I'd give them a good match to our burger shacks here. Namely M&M' S old fashioned hamburgers. Badass prices and really Badass burgers. I take all my clients there, and they go back all the time. This place is in the east end district and magnolia. Try it Texas Bucket List.

I was just in Brownsville for the first time last month. I was primarily in the downtown area. Which is very run down, blighted. And I didn't know where to find good local food. None of the restaurants looked good. But I definitely didn't see this place. I'll try it out, when I return to Brownsville.

I went once like 8yrs ago and they didn't even had a sink to wash our hands neither a restroom..and no backdoor they had a painted door on the wall..jeje we went 15mnts before they closed to make an order of 10 burgers and didn't wanted to attend us they told us to wait for the order outside I understand the place its too small and dirty but that day didn't had customers..won't recommend it
