Hello Wayne. I really enjoy your work, it's so genuine and pure! I love it. I really need your recommendation and advice. Do you think I can get an automatic bike for 15,000 baht (max budget) in Chiang Mai? How to find one? Really hoping will get your valuable insight on this matter.

Thank you, much appreciated. 15,000 is really low, you will most likely get a really old Click . I would look on Facebook market place and maybe check out Buffalo Market in San Pa Tong. They have really old bikes sometimes. Keep looking on FB, sometimes can see some old bikes. Cheers.

Hi Wayne, I’m 60 years old and I’ve been team Honda my whole life, started riding when I was 5 years old on my brothers 1972 Honda SL70 , I’ve owned several Honda dirt bikes over the years and my first street bike was an 82 , Honda cb900F , my first trip to Chiang Mai in 2017 I rented a Honda pcx 150 for a few months , loved it so much I bought one when I got home , my last two visits to Phuket over the last two winters I rented the Honda pcx 160 ( you can feel the power difference between the 150 and the 160). I’ve done a lot of research on the ADV 160 and from what I’ve read it rides a lot better than the pcx due to the suspension and seating profile , I’m going to rent one this winter when I come back to Thailand .I watched a video a month again where a guy payed 103,000 baht for a brand new adv 160 out the door ( if I lived there full time that’s the bike I would buy ) . That same bike in the states is about double that in the dealership after they add in set up and destination charge . If you considered taking the advice from someone who’s owned Hondas for over 55 years , you can’t go wrong with the pcx or the adv 160 . Another thing I might ad is the pcx 160 I rented in Phuket two years ago had over 45,000 Kms and it still ran like a top !

ADV is a great bike and my next bike ( probably). PCX is also a good bike but not what I’m after next. ADV or Aerox will be my next bike. My Click is not far off 40k and it’s fine. The scooters will keep running fine if you look after them with frequent oil changes.

Just remember, you get what you pay for. I personally would rather spend a little more and feel better with a brand new scooter. Happy shopping.😃

I rented a PCX in Chiangmai for about 6 weeks. It’s a great bike with plenty of power for country rides. Off roads, it’s not the best, however.

I've got an Exciter, bought from new bout 7 yrs ago, manual 5 speed, cracking bike, sometime use it riding to Utteradit, 350kms, top speed around 110KPH, highway riding 90KPH all day long .

I got a 125 Wave with 100k on it I would have preferred a Dream , more steel in the older ones. Was the strangest bargain Ive ever done , I pointed out the issues to lower the price but there was no movement in price was nice bike so I said yes, They told me come back in an hour to collect , we went had lunch came back and they,d replaced the battery, installed a chain guard , and new back brake shoes: the items I'd asked for discount on , and two new helmets, the little mountain goat is still going strong.

I'm curious if any of the bikes in the class you're considering have ABS or traction control, and if it's possible to trust the Odometer readings? Also, what do you think about upgrading tires to something with good all surface grip given the random conditions you encounter in SE Asia?

Some do have ABS , but most of the older ones don't . My next bike will 100% have ABS. You could upgrade tires, if you was going more off road. I don't need to, but sure, you could. Thanks mate 😁

Just give them your international license. They never compare it with your UK license. If you only have a car license, go with your international license to Big C Don Jan. There's a shop that makes stamps. They need te international to see what stamp to make. It's about thb 250 for the stamp. There are a lot of checkpoints, so you will have your thb 250 back in no time.

Wayne if your going to buy used , take a good look at maintenance records and make sure there is no hanky panky like odometer being rolled back ( for instance if you see that it had an oil change at 15,000 kms and the bike only has 12,000 kms you know something’s up ), and if your going to buy through FB market place be aware that if your buying from another expat he has to be living in the same province as you.( Thai law )

I’ve purchased a used bike buddy. Yes always best to check as much as you can. Rolled back clocks are a big thing . You can transfer ownership from a different province, no problem. You just need all the required paperwork, you can get province plates changed . 👍

I just got back from Chiang Mai. Rented a Click 160. That's the bike for around town as far as I'm concerned. I also rented a big bike, a Honda CBX500. Big fun in the mountains, but sucks in town. I'm going to need one of each, lol!

Yes, very true Brian, the click is the perfect bike for around the city, it's a great bike for carrying shopping also. It's a bit of a pain on long journeys, I wish I have a different bike for road trips. The Click will get you anywhere you want to go, but it's painful 🤣. I'm just about to do another long road trip on my click.

Wayne, recently I could not believe my eyes when I saw an old Husquvarna, with the classic red gas tank, parked in town (Chiang Mai). They were THE bike to own in my ancient young days in California, 555. I"m talking my high school days of the early 70s. I thought how cool to cruise around CM on a Western-style bike instead of the usual scooter style that is so common. I bet it would be pretty pricey if they guy wanted to sell it, but also maybe really expensive to repair for new parts. Still, it was a cool sight.

If the bike is older then 5 years it needs to be tested every year when you buy the new Tax. The first 5 years you don’t need to do nothing . My Bike is a 2019 model, so this year I had to have the inspection.

Great video. Just be careful if your buying an Aerox 155 for travelling as it only has a small 5.5 Ltr fuel tank. It’s ok for urban but long distances and the hills around CM you will need to fill up quiet regular. You can buy a larger tank for them but who wants to fanny about doing that. Also buy what the locals drive as if anything goes wrong on your trips even the village school kids can repair your bike.

Not the aerox…. Limited fuel capacity, UNCOMFORTABLE SEAT POSITION…. Poor option Try the NMAX…. Great fuel, super comfortable, fully automatic, ABS, not too heavy, great in traffic can lane split no worries, can do 100 on the highway but super light in the mountains. Perfect bike for CM Wayne…. Rent one for a day and see what you reckon…. I prefer Nmax over PCX…. Been riding mine for 6 yrs now, NEVER broken down, super reliable, just do the services on time… happy as..

Nauseatingly atrocious motorbike design is the standard protocol for scooters in Asia! Each one looks like it came out of a Transformers movie from the '80s. As if the designers were told to make it as slanty and angled and cheesy and chiseled as possible and then throw a bunch of weird misplaced lines on it. Hehe. I'll be motor biking in Thailand in the next few months and renting one of those scooters. I'll try not to think about what it looks like. Haha. Thanks for a great video!

NOT the aerox….. limited fuel supply, UNCOMFORTABLE seat position, after one hour the old numb butt drama…. just don’t….. Try the Nmax….. excellent fuel range, super comfortable riding position and seat, fully automatic, ABS, lane split in traffic no worries, does 100+ on the highway, not too heavy, perfect weight ratio in the mountains, does long hauls with comfort and ease. Rent one for a few days, and do the city, highway, some mountain rides and guarantee you will be impressed. Had mine now 6 yrs, all black key version, wouldn’t swap it. Prefer it over the PCX… PCX handle bars are weird IMO…..
