Stephen (Eddie Redmayne), Jane (Felicity Jones), and Jonathan (Charlie Cox) discuss Stephen's new boundless universe theory.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
James Marsh's biopic of the celebrated scientist Stephen Hawking, The Theory of Everything, stars Eddie Redmayne as the famous figure. Enrolled as a graduate student at Cambridge, Hawking establishes himself as one of the leading minds of his generation, and begins to win the heart of Jane (Felicity Jones). After one of his earliest breakthroughs, Hawking is diagnosed with ALS, and he becomes less and less able to control his own body. With the loyal Jane at his side, he continues his work. However, as the years progress, Jane starts to feel more like a nurse than a wife, and Hawking begins to have feelings for a woman who is hired to care for him. The Theory of Everything screened at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.

Eddie's transformation throughout this movie is absolutely incredible. My dad had ALS. He captures the mannerisms, the movements, the speech, the deterioration of an ALS patient PERFECTLY. I was, and am still blown away by this performance. I can see my dads movements, and things he was forced to do as his body failed him in Eddie. I can't talk enough about his performance. It's masterful

Why do you guys hate Hawking? Just because he doesn't believe in God doesn't mean you should rain fire on him. Doesn't God give everyone the free will to believe or reject God? While it's too bad that Hawking isn't a Christian, it still doesn't mean you should bash him like that.

I love this movie and understand it all too well because, like Hawking, I use a wheelchair and I study astrophysics, quantum physics, and cosmology. There's so much I can say about this scene and the film alone. First, I love Jane Wilde... I really do. To go through all she did for Stephen. That's true love and I wish that for everyone, even myself. In this scene, though, which was shortly after she met Jonathan, you can tell in her eyes that she was screaming for help. I know she loves Stephen, but I know there are times when she needs a break, and to practice her faith. Heart-wrenching. There is a deleted scene that I really wish they kept in the film. It was of Jane assisting Stephen by typing his thesis and Stephen shared his sandwich with her. I know it may sound silly, but that just gets to me every time I watch it. Everyone should have someone to share their sandwich with. On another note, I don't exactly get why it is discussed that if the universe has no beginning, then there is no need for God. This is saying that God has bounds. But... isn't it understood that God is above all things and therefore boundless? If this is true, then if the universe is indeed boundless and has no beginning, why can't God still exist? I'm confused. Anyway, just wanted to point out those two things. RJ

It's impossible to prove the universe had no beginning which is why Hawking never did. However if someone did prove that then at the very least it would disprove God as the creator of the universe. Nothing can disprove God entirely though because God lacks all the things we measure to prove something. He does not exist physically, has never been seen or spoken with, and leaves no concrete evidence of his existence. God was simply an umbrella term we credited phenomena we couldn't yet explain with science to. I know that growing up in a religious household ingrains strong beliefs in people, and fear of death (which God promises reprieve from via eternal life in paradise) reinforces that, but that is in no way evidence of his existence. It is simply a fairytale. Put it this way, what evidence is there that God exists anymore than there is evidence that any other fairytale exists? A book? Fairytales have books too... You may say "but literally half of the human population or more believe in some form of God, how can they all be mistaken?" but I would counter with "half the human population or more also fear death and will accept any story that gives them hope for overcoming it".
@elizabethmartinez2859
@elizabethmartinez2859 3 жыл бұрын
@@yawgmoth6568 I must say is way more complicated than that. It is not the fear of death that you mentioned... what we are really looking for is a feeling of purpose of living, Why do we live? Why do we feel pain, suffering? and it may sound stupid but we also look for something to let us feel part of a whole as humans, that we indeed are all equals. It's really complicated indeed. But it's not about the fear of death. No. It's about the purpose of living and loving others.

@@elizabethmartinez2859 Very well said the both of you. Additionally, I'd say there are equal if not superior reasons within all sciences which ought to give any sentient intelligent lifeform a truer sense of awe, inspiration, profundity, and sense of unity to the Cosmos, Earth, and all living things, all of these empirical and observable processes, for me at least, so immensely outweighs any and all necessity of settling for something so elusive and seemingly imaginary and kept alive by humanity as the concept of God.

As a modern thinker ( I am both a firm believer in both Science and God ) , I do not question Stephen Hawking. What every Christian and Atheist in the comments need to do is to respect each other. Do not insult this man for what he has concluded as I am sure he has worked around and thought about it himself, on the other hand, do not insult those that choose to believe. At the current stage, it is only a theory that God does not exist. Whether God truly exists or not, it has not yet been proven.

The biggest issue in the equation of everything (Stephen Hawking) is expressed in the 2 split experiment or to express it more simply the fact that when we look at electrons going around a atom it seems to disapear and reapear and we can only use probablity to measure the most likey spot and therefore making it a estimated guess. In string theory there are 11 dimentions and in M theory there are 13. Perhaps this is infinate too. 3 is the magic number that creates perfect number like 6, 28 and 496. The triangle or concept that 1 third can only be expressed infinatly. 33.333333333 and so on. This to me is God winking at us. I'm referring to the intrinsic God that should not be confussed with the litteral God most only think about. Einstien and Hawlking both thought of the concept of God in this way. I am with Einstein in that God does not play dice but at the same time it does. This is paradoxical but when looking at free will vs pre determinism they both makes sense. Determinism is definitaly true if you think about it but free will doesn't go away. It lives within our every breath it seems. What does it mean to choose. To think about deciding you change it's path through hesitation but is it possible to choicelessly decide. This is to act without hesitation or in religious text and work a matter of Yoke as Jesus put it or Yoga as the Hindus put it which simply means union. What a rabbit hole but come out of it with this understanding my friends. Think before you act but when you act don't think, feel. Be couragous and surrender to the flow of things like water does and you will see a calmer mindset and inturn a better you that doesn't spiritually and emotionally die at a young age. This whole concept is fasinating to say the least.

@@blablabla1494 No creations only transformations and no time. It doesn't exist. Something that bang once must bang infinity. As you are pointing out the who's God's,, GOD. This entire thing we witness day to day is incredible. I feel this intent in my intuition. In my dealing with spirituality.

We must all respect each other's beliefs. God or no God we must be understanding. That way there are no conflicts between each other.

Aria: Right, and we should be aware of the fact that we can come to know things we don't know, by studying scientifically, and learn what others have been able to se and know by spiritual and physical research. Above all, we should learn to argue civilly, tactfully, balancedly, get grown upo, mature, get conscious and truthful.A constructive conflict without stress and hassle is something positive, it is the immature, self-righteous, insecure, aggressive, shouting ones that are unlucky and harmful.

in fact there are conflict between each of God or no God theory, let me explain, when people claim there's a god, they assume there are no greater entity of "god", but that has a flaws because then who has created that god? according to physics things can't merely just exist, there must be some kind of conversion of energy and when people claim there's not god then how energy exist in the first place? according to first law of thermodynamics energy can't be created nor destroyed. Both of them has flaw to certain extent.
