I'm in the aquarium hobby since I was a child- for over 30 years now. But when I got a chronic illness 2 years ago that changed my life completely, I discovered the impact that made this hobby on my wellbeing and mental health. Even when I can't achieve much in life, I can create something in my living space that makes me proud, teaches me patience and fills me with joy. I call it "therapeutic aquascaping" since then 😅

Aren't we witnessing a battle between evil and death from one side against light and life from the other side. Many people doesn't see that. This hobby is true blessing for me and i was lucky enought to be introduced at a verry young age. You are speaking true words my friend , if you really want to start in aquascaping you dont need to spend a lot of money… i am remembering the early 90’s and 20’s when youtupe just started… and i saw for the first time fellow aquascapers that started posting content. I remember making great friends from my local aquascaping store and exchangjng idears , plants and other hobby related stuff. This guys are between my closes friends in my life. I Just started in the Hobby just more than a year ago. A slower pace and deliberate thinking is so important. I went from 1 to 3 Aquariums in just three months, made six scapes in those with 25 plant species, while learning in the second half of the year that I dont have the time to maintenance all of them. Impuls buys of plants and one Impulse buy of fish that even turned out to be sick just added to this. It became a very rough half year of aquacaping for me and i lost sight for its magic through all the problems and pain I went through... I think my biggest learning this year is this. Get slower, scale down until you have the knowledge, dont try to control everything, stick to the animals you once decided to buy and love and dont get new ones. I have to find my pace now and because I personally know no other scapers, I use your videos to help me find that magic again that made me sit in front of my Aquariums for hours not too long ago.

A few words about strength of community. I am from Łódź in center of Poland. When I'm talking about source of inspiration and knowledge with local community they almost all know a Green Aqua channel on KZbin. I'm talking about everybody in this hobby - from sellers to customers, hobbiests, internet funs of aquariums. Green Aqua channel is the best. I don't find any other one on that high level. I always gets amazed by how friendly and helpful all serious fishkeeper seems to be. It doesn't matter if I talk to someone in the pet stores, commenting something online here or at Facebook or other forums, everyone is helpful and friendly. And when it comes to starting up aquariums, I don't have a lot of money, not at all, but I've spent a lot(!) of time educating myself about aquariums so that the things I buy is things I actually want/need and of good quality. And then, I've spent a lot(!) of time searching online for second hand aquariums. Now I've found some, almost for free, in good condition and with both plants, lights and hardscape to go with it! So, for less than what a new aquarium with a bench would cost me, I've got 2 normal sized + 3 nanos + plants, lights, sponge-filters... Just the substrate and some more plants that will be at normal cost. Then I also have chosen to keep inhabitants and plants that doesn't require Co2 or even a heater. Now I have both fish and shrimps. The shrimps I got for free and the fish wasn't the most expensive ones.

I've had an aquarium in one form or another from my teens until my early 50's. Then I moved to another home and left the hobby. Two years ago I lost my job due to factory closing, AND I lost my mother due to cancer. I became lost, and I guess I still am. 😢 Earlier this year I somehow started watching various YT channels about fishkeeping and aquascaping, and I got back into it. "Fast Thinking" led me to having 3 tanks (1 empty at the moment) and even more lights and filters than common sense... 😂 Right now, I'm at the "Slow Thinking" part because I need to figure out my time, budget and plans for the future. There is truth in what you say! My hobby before was video gaming. I used to spend alot on video games, console and pc stuff, till I got tech stress, or just got tired of too much tech this world has to offer (don't get me wrong bit I still game from time to time) and I started fish keeping and then eventually aquascaping, and I yhink that's the biophillia part comes in where I just want to connect with nature thru fish keeping and aquascaping. Indeed. I started learning everything about aquarium care... I though I've achieved the "flow" reading Mihaly's book, I felt strong to face life's challenges. Two years later, I got sick but thankfully the surgery seems to have been a success so far... During all this process, aquascaping has been one of my pillars maintaining "the flow"... help of my family, friends, even my job were invaluable, but the day to day path was a succesion of water changes and aquascaping challenges, even now I need a tank with my plants and fish, I need this conection with nature. 18 years ago I had my firs heart surgery, I can't even describe how much aquascaping and gardening means to me. Right now in my 450l aquarium there is 20kg of driftwood soaking and I have 80kg of dragonstone on balcony just waiting for my new light shipment and some other stuff from you guys 😄

System 1 = Filipe Oliveira. "Just do" style of aquascaping. I absolutely love that style. The difference is that he had the experience and the knowledge to do everything with the experience of system 2. Balaz, if you haven't ever looked up the information, I would love to see a video on the topic of philosophy, metaphysics, nature, and aquascaping. A great place to start is the quotes by Henry David Thoreau.

I always thought of it as art. I can't paint a picture, but I can make an ecosystem. I enjoy making aqua scape using as little hard scape as possible and focusing on plants placement and trimming, it amazing what you can do just just trimming.
