Wow, fuses 3 x and 4 x rated size? I once had a process machine with a 30 amp fused disconnect on the wall, the process engineer insisted I get him 100 amp fuses for the disconnect, I advised him and he wouldn't listen. I finally cut three short lengths of copper tubing, wrote "100 A" on each one and gave them to him. I also gave him the work order and told him he had to sign off on the "work performed" while reminding him he was not authorized to do electrical work, not even to change a fuse. The fuses remained 30 A for many more years, I don't think he ever understood the real issue.

I know it's probably a redundant feature, but why don't manufactures add an inline filter just before the metering devices to help keep them from clogging? It would much easier to deal with a removeable filter than to repair or replace a metering device.
@throttlebottle5906
@throttlebottle5906 3 жыл бұрын
up next, filter/dryer's plugged and caused system burn out. dirty coils, bad cond. fan motor, etc. the list is endless and nobody will pay for it to be monitored fully 24/7, because all the monitoring equipment is also junk that fails too often and gives false positives~! they simply cannot filter all the junk out from dirty burnt oil, so it still passes through which clogs the orifices. giant commercial refrigeration racks have many filters and strainers, guess what happens often? yep contaminates from work on other sections or burnt oil clogs the stuff and causes issues and burnouts still.

I have a question, if you know the answer to it I’d appreciate it I love all your vids, keep up the great work. However, why don’t they install heat pumps out there? It doesn’t get that cold in Cali so I’d expect there to be heat pumps instead of gas furnaces. So why aren’t there? Any specific reason or is that upcoming in the future? As a design engineer, given the southern California climate, I probably wouldn't even bother with a gas heat unit since even the smallest gas heaters are often oversized. I'd most likely do a heat pump, possibly without even any electric backup heat and just eat the higher electricity than gas cost the few times it needs heat. Of course do some calculations to justify it, but my gut reaction would lead me that way.
@strimbimmin328

You need electric heat strips on a heat pump for heating the space during defrost
@eggman9713
@eggman9713 3 жыл бұрын
@@strimbimmin328 On a lot of traditional units yes, mainly because they don't turn the indoor fan off during defrost. Modern mini-split heat pumps and VRF heat pump systems (Daikin VRV, Mitsubishi City Multi, etc.) just turn off the indoor fans and there is enough heat immediately in and around the indoor coil(s) for use in defrost. I do a lot of VRF system designs and almost never have to put in auxiliary heat systems, even in our climate where it routinely is below freezing and down to single digits. It just works.

As an Industrial maintenance tech I am frequently given sketchy info from operators and/or supervisors and it is difficult sometimes because you do start off going down the wrong path and only after you realize that you are side-tracked do you pull back and refocus on the actual problem. Sometimes too much info is a bad thing and because we do not run the machines we are frequently at a disadvantage. I can usually figure out what's wrong with a machine if you tell me what the machine is supposed to do and then I can see why it does not work. Luckily with your experience you already know what the equipment is designed to do and can start from that. I was wondering if you have videos that show how you clean /replace the TXV strainers and/or plugged metering devices on the machines that you encounter? I am curious to see if you have to recover the freon to do these or if there are isolation valves somewhere. Thanks so much for your videos and it is inspiring to see techs like you and Craig Migliaccio that take pride in their work and keep such a great attitude even when things go completely south.

Thermostats without auto-changeover are an abomination...maybe its because I live in Virginia where we need heat in the morning and A/C in the afternoon that it seems like its so important...but it boggles my mind how "smart" and "programmable" thermostats always seem to have that function disabled. Had to figure out how to reprogram the ones in our rental to enable that feature, and when we got a place I had to replace the "smart" thermostats with different smart-ones that let me enable that feature. My observations are the cooling is needed from about 3pm-11pm and heating from about 3am to 9am, if you don't swap mode before you go to bed or to work you'll wake up freezing or get home melting.

Recently i am working on the vapour absorption refrigeration system. In this vapour of ammonia is comming out at a temperature of 25 degree. So my question is which condenser should i used to remove the latent heat??? Is it possible that we can used the air condenser to remove the latent heat of the refrigerant at that temperature of the refrigerant??? If we use the water conderser so, the water of the temperature is raised. But we can afford the wast of the water at that situtation so, the problem is that how we could remove the heat from the water. Basicaly i have two question Is it possible to use the air condenser to cool the refrigerant at 25 degree?? Or if we use the water cool condenser so,how we can remove the heat from the water which absorb during the condenser in order to not wast the water after one cycle.

Maybe somebody can answer my question, cuz I never understood. So These restaurants, they are renting or leasing the unit that they are in, right???. If you're renting or leasing, the property owners should be responsible for things like heating and cooling? If the building doesn't belong to The restaurant owner, why are they responsible for replacing things like that? Because if that's the case, and you are responsible, I would simply move to a different building instead of paying a $10k+ bill for a new AC.

From my days working in nightclubs I learned a human generates about 100W. We would expect 350 people to crowd into the club. 35,000Watts. So at noon we turn the AC down to 62F and get the place freezing cold. By the time the people arrive their 35kW heats it up quickly.

You hope those fuses are not from Harbor Freight. They are absolute junk and will not open at the proper amperage. Usually many times the labeled amperage from what I have heard from people who have actually tested them.
@animefreak5757
@animefreak5757 3 жыл бұрын
it depends on the type of fuse as well, most of the ones i see around are slow blow, meaning it will take a sustained overcurrent to trip them. It's the same with most breakers. You CAN get fast blow fuses, but they are rare because it's unnecessary and they tend towards the false trips. Just something to keep in mind when a layman tests something, they don't always fully understand it. I'm not saying you were wrong, but the devil's in the details :P

My boss says he changed belts by popping off the old ones and popping on the new ones by rotating the pulleys. And he said if they were really tight to get the belt on he would open the drive pulley slide the belt on and close the pulley back down which in mind my wouldnt be possible. The only right way is to move the motor bracket to get a new belt on right?
@winstonwright3613
@winstonwright3613 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Moving the bracket and the motor is the only correct way to tighten to spec. If its done by adjusting that Pulley, it changes the RPM of the blower and also the amp draw of the motor. Can cause delivered capacity issues, over-ampimg, incorrect evaporator TD, and insufficient humidity removal from the air. Whole lots of problems can come from being lazy. You're instincts are correct.

@@winstonwright3613 My boss had yelled at me because I moved a motor bracket instead of popping a new belt on. I just didnt think it was possible to get a new belt on if you open the pulley, put the belt on then close the pulley. Was thinking you would have to pipe wrench the pulley closed because of crushing the belt. But good to know I was doing it right, thanks.

I'm surprised that's not code there, since they're a shaky state(earthquakes) and it can back unions off easily
@cmc7256
@cmc7256 3 жыл бұрын
@@throttlebottle5906 Flex lines would back off just as easy as a union would. They're both threaded joints. Also, those flex whips are 100% leaking. All day under rain, direct sun, wind, etc. The wear and tear must be immense. And you know the customer isn't changing them out by the projected replacement age. You may have a point about the "shakiness" but I don't know. Where I live it is black pipe only.
@throttlebottle5906
@throttlebottle5906 3 жыл бұрын
black pipe only is bad in earthquake prone areas because the lines will shear off at fittings, shutoffs, appliance valves or back unions right off. the narrower threaded end is the weakened point. using flex connectors properly torqued is code in most every earthquake prone area, as is strapping/mounting water heaters tanks and everything else in place. I'm in ohio and of course here you find fine anything braced and it's often all hard plumbed too.

Stoneage called, they want their refrigerant back. LOL 😆 I'm working as a ref tech/installator in sweden. Even R404 and R507 is banned from new installation. We are even exchanging R134 to R513 instead in our new installations with environment in mind. For freezers we are using 449 and 452 depending on unit and if there's part loads (452) or only one user (449) due to discharge temp as they tend to peak away with 449 with low evap temps

Now, this is stoneage, but before the time as well. The Kryotherm, a invention from north Sweden. There's not many of these left in action. Most of them has been parted out due to leaks, malfunction etc. The unit keeps power supply with fuses, automatics and contactors at the orange front doors, supply air, exhaust air and recirculated air with flaps, placed in the orange section. Refrigeration units is kept in the blue parts, olé Bitzer bhs units, all cooled down by a multichannel condenser between the blue and orange section. Either out on the roof or out in the supermarket. The company was broke in beginning of 2010, but was saved by an other company with similar business profile. This particular unit was rebuilt for some years ago with plate heat exchangers. Why, I dont know... www.mbsca.se/img/kryo.jpg
