I think the "not considering Luz's perspective in the Lumity shipping" is the result of the framing of the show itself. We are shown Amity is losing her mind and is a blushy mess but we do not get anything from Luz except for her usual sunny and friendly attitude that doesn't go any more sincere than with her other friends. She would've picked up Willow as well should Willow be the one to break a limb, that's what I'm saying XD But otherwise, Luz is the best show protagonist I've seen in SO LONG. I adore her with all my heart. She is very endearing, and manages to stay lovable even when she messes up, which she does a lot. But her genuine enthusiasm and the fact that she usually keeps someone's best interest in mind and ultimately wants to achieve something positive with her actions is what keeps me invested in her. Full-stop Luz is my favorite character in the show. I love that like Eda she has this great enthusiasm for learning magic, I adore the fact that she has a strong passion for stories (her main "that I could do in the human world" dream is to become a writer), her habit of speaking Spanish in emotional moments is one of those story tropes I have a soft spot for, and I like that the show makes it clear that her problem isn't so much about having that enthusiasm as much as knowing when to pull back and to consider the people around. That is actually a pretty solid lesson to teach kids and even teens- that your passions are valid, but sometimes you also need to know when to curb that enthusiasm. Also I adore how she goes from "I am basically winging it to survive" to "I will wreck each and every one of you hurting my new momma" in the span of a season. It's genuinely awesome to see how far she's come with a handful of glyphs and her wits.

Honestly Luz is one of the characters that I can see myself in. By how weird and enthusiastic she is and how much she loves fantasy stories. By the first episode I could for once see myself in a character. Since then she has become one of my biggest comfort characters. I was a little skeptical at Luz mom in the beginning but I'm understanding more of where she is coming from. In my mind putting what makes me who I am and putting it in a box is something I despise so my first impression of Camilla was not that good. But I can understand that she is trying here best even if it is not what Luz really needs.

I didn't even knew it was a problem until my sister pointed it out. I'm in the latin fandom, where the majority of people loves Luz and make culture references almost obsessively , so I had to scroll through tumblr to see if native english speakers did it, and they do! and it's really noticeable. I'm happy that people celebrate inclusion in cartoons, but I don't like how many seem to only appreciate Luz for being Latina and Bisexual ... I am also Latina and Bisexual, but I really hate when fandoms treat LGBT / Black / minority / etc characters as if they are gods and only refer to them as "my precious UwU minority baby." Yeah after that one Tumblr post I started paying more attention to what’s getting posted on Ao3. And yeah there is so much Lumity stuff that is Amity centric. Even times when you get things like cursed Luz AUs where you would think it would be more centric to the main trio, you still have at least two with it mostly being told from Amity’s POV. Which is frustrating. I mainly go to fics because what I want is more found family stuff. The amount of things with Amity/Luz (romantic) tagged vs Eda & Luz (family) tagged is almost 8:1. Don’t get me wrong I like Lumity as a couple but it would be nice to have not everything Amity centric. And this is coming from someone who is definitely guilty of favoring Eda over Luz. But that’s mainly because with Edas curse I see a lot of myself in her to the point there were tears of relief during the finale when I realized they weren’t slapping a bandaid over the issue and calling it a day. I still love Luz, she reminds me of another fav from another fandom I’m in at times. And the glyphs being another adaptive representation in their own right makes me love her as well. It’s sad and frustrating and the girl needs more love from the fandom as a whole without constantly dragging Amity in. I’ve actually had to tell friends I recommend the show but not the fandom. And that was based on frustration with things like ableism around Eda loosing her magic, lack of understanding of some of the plot development (I’m with you in thinking that Liliths not forgiven yet), and thinking there had been no hints that Luz may more powerful then we’ve seen (this has been hinted at people just have blinders I guess). The racism just adds to the list unfortunately. Unrelated note: Loved the mini drag of Simon. God the canvases reaction to him was frustrating to watch.

Been thinking about it a lot. I also kept wondering why I can't stop drawing Luz when in a TOH fanart mood. I have realized that I usually don't like the main protagonist as much as side characters, but for Owl House, I can't help but put Luz and Eda as tied for number 1. I don't disagree with the racism sentiment at all. We all have internalized racism. I think in the Luz/Amity shipping, a part of the problem is that Amity's feelings are a very clear thing to talk about, gay panic and all. For Luz, you would have to think about it for a second, lol. In that sense, I think it's even a tiny step forward that the fandom appreciates Amity's open affection. Usually, a young girl character with a strong, noticable crush will be shunned for it - thinking about Sakura, Uraraka etc. that said, I think not caring for/disliking Luz is really weird. I get not caring that much for the MC. I personally didn't really care for Adora from She Ra, for example. But Luz is fun, she has a clear arc and flaws. Maybe it's also cause she's adhd coded that people dislike her, so there would be ableism on top af racism, which is... just great.

I think people only started getting into Luz around Grom time or her first day at Hexside. I know I thought she was gonna be a wimp that always needed a babysitter in exchange for pep talks and human world knowledge. She has, at least, shown the capacity to be of practical use in a combat situation without allies, and her attack on the Conformatorium proved that she can go on the offensive and, more importantly, that "love and tolerate" is only an option, not her go-to.

This fandom really does have a slight racism problem, and I'm glad someone's finally calling it out. Luz, Willow, and Gus are all amazing characters and I wish people would start appreciating them. Also--finally someone who agrees with me about her mom! She's NOT a bad person, she and Luz just don't always see eye to eye! And Eda isn't a better mom than her! They both have their strengths and weaknesses as parents (because they are HUMAN). Also, just to add on to the "everything great about Luz" list, she's a very relatable character. Jumping on the train about white character favoritism and shipping, can I just say I find it really weird how quickly parts of the fandom was able to be all onboard with Boscha and start shipping her with Willow?? Boscha treats Willow terribly (did everyone forget the grudgby episode or were we too busy freaking out of Amity’s gay panicking?)! She’s her bully for goodness sake and hasn’t apologized for any of her behavior but people still draw her constantly as a part of the friend group and her crushing on Willow. Thecreason Luz isn't my favorite character despite how similar we are is that I would never be able to make the same decisions, both her good and bad decisions. I would never have been able to lie to my mom, I wouldn't have been able to pretend I was an abomination, I would have never been able to take the initiative needed to go on even half of her adventures. Can I just say, THANK YOU for bringing up the Grace and Simon problem! I watched season 3, a second time, with my friend and they were just hating on Grace and I straight up didn't understand why, until they started to talk about how Simon was "done wrong" by Grace. I was so upset because they said that Grace's past actions are unredeemable, which is clearly proven wrong. UHG!!! I hate people who discount Grace. (BTW I love Simon as a character, but hate him as a functioning person) Grace is one of my favorite characters of all time. Also 1) Willow (Love her story of coming to terms with everything that's happened) 2) Eda (Badass witch lady, who loves Luz and tries to be the best version of herself as time goes on) 3) Luz (A literal queen among us. Woa, I never even thought it could be racism. I thought luz was severely under appreciated but I just thought it was the usual underhyping of main characters, especially because the fandom seems very anti racist from what I’ve seen. But that really brings up a good point. Luz has always been fighting for my number one, and maybe it’s stubborn blind love for her gay panics and what I think is the potential to a really interesting story (oh who am I kidding it’s nearly entirely the gay panics although I believe there’s more to her that that), but My favorite character is amity. I think that’s just because I’m lesbian who gets really hyped about representation and she is a lesbian, but I definitely want to dissect and see if there’s any racism there to hold myself accountable and be a better ally.

The dark skin character here are awesome. (Gus) he's literally trying his best to gain respect despite his age difference with the others, but I kind of hate it that he doesn't have more of an important role than being Luz's friend, sure he's the president or was the president of the HAS. But that's it, he only revolves around Luz and it's kinda disappointing to know that. I hope in future episodes they'll know what to do with his character (They need to show that he can have a life without Luz).

I didn't watch the video yet, but if this gets talked about in the vid, I'll edit Luz has to be one of the best examples of kids and alternative learning methods. Unable to use magic in the way everyone else can, she discovered a new way with her glyphs, and not once have I seen others look down on her for how she casts magic (barring belos). At the season finale, she even says she's gonna help eda by teaching her. It's a great allegory for how some kids can't learn from the current teaching system, but with exploration and encouragement, they can be capable of great things.

I think the reason why Luz isn't my favorite is because I see myself as a Luz 😅 and when I watch the show I kind of see the characters from her perspective. As a Luz type, I'm into the smart and kind of straight forward character. And I tend to like the mentor characters because they bring insight into the world. The only character I struggle with is Willow, I had a bit of an Amity/Willow childhood moment with a girl that reminds me of willow.

I’ve actually been wondering quite a bit about how going forward with Lumity could turn out, especially from Luz’s perspective. Of course we have to get Amity some character building up to a confession, but with Luz being oblivious, (which is still funny) we have to find some way to cram Luz realizing feelings and being able to accept a confession or relationship anyway we slice it. I have no doubt Luz would be an eager and caring partner, but with all the stuff that’s gonna be on season 2’s plate, (Luz helping Eda with glyph magic, Luz potentially having to protect the Owl House as one of the resident most capable witches, the house’s residents being on higher surveillance and just the hopeful conflict between Eda and Lilith under the same roof..) there doesn’t seem to be a lot of room for romantics. I do hope Dana pulls it off for both Luz and Amity to reach a point and get together, but it might be a tough ride. Still, Dana hasn’t let us down yet, so let’s hope.

They give Willow so much shit about not being "developed enough" but turn around and like her bully?!?! Seriously??? Luz and Eda are tied for my favorite, followed by Willow (I still love WilLuz). I wasn't the biggest fan of season 1 of Infinity Train, but it definitely became more interesting to me as it progressed. I love Grace so much her arc was so well done especially considering they only had 10 episodes to do develop her. Simon was a great foil to her development. I'm not surprised that people want to excuse Simon by laying the blame on Grace, but I am disappointed.

I'm learning so many things about this fandom I had no idea about because I never stepped into those fandom spaces. Did people really hate Camila and project a bunch of stereotypes onto her?? For WHAT? And people don't like Luz because she's afrolatina? I assumed people gravitated more towards Amity because people like antagonist redemption arcs. And to Eda because obviously. Funny Bad Bitch Milf. And less so towards Gus and Willow because, at the point this video was made, they hadn't really done anything yet. It's so baffling to me that I almost don't believe it. You're one of the few people I actually see calling out how much the fandom disregards its characters of color. Honestly Luz is my favorite character in the entire show. She is unarguably the most developed character in the show, which I appreciate because more often than not, main characters get overshadowed by their side characters, and that's to say nothing about Amity or Eda or King, but think about it. With Legend of Korra, more people freak out over Asami than Korra. In ATLA, everyone fell in love with Zuko over Aang. With She-Ra, everyone loved Adora, but everyone LOVED Catra. The fact that Luz isn't getting that attention is more than a crime to me. She's literally the most relatable character in the modern era. She acts like a kid, is genuinely curious about the world around her with a general ditziness and love for all things weird. She honestly reminds me a lot of my niece and that's why I love her.

its worth stating what makes luz so good is very much that she is coded as having adhd. luz is an eccentric girl with deep passions and hyperfixiations, and not so great grasps on social cues. i relate to luz SO HARD and can see my childhood deeply in her. luz learns how to be better around people, not let herself go too far and accidentally hurt her friends or the people she cares about. i had a similar experience growing up, and im still coping with the trauma of it. growing up w/ adhd its very hard to see the effects of things you say or do affecting others until its too late. its very much drilled in that luz is learning these lessons, while still being luz, while still keeping those quirks! just learning to reign them in enough to help out herself and other people, but she is not being _cured._ she still has adhd. while a summer camp like the one she was meant to go to would probably drill out all of that childlike, and _neurodivergent_ wonder, the boiling isles and eda let her still be herself.

And now that we have Yesterday’s Lie, Camilla’s motivations for sending Luz to summer camp couldn’t be any clearer when she said “okay, I’ll play along with your story” etc. and satisfyingly acknowledges Luz’s newfound maturity before heartbreakingly being pulled back into the demon realm. The two of them really love each other and it serves as an incredibly encouraging role model for any child or parent in Luz’s or Camilla’s respective position.

What I really find amazing is the good witch Azura Books, because they’re always used as a point of comparison and growth for luz She decided to stay In The Boiling Isles to live out her fantasy story, and it was through comparing herself, king and Eda to the Azura cast that convinced her to stay, yet repeatedly when she tried to mimic azura, she failed, repeatedly. In Episode 2, she almost gets enthralled to a demon In episode 5 she almost is forced to stop learning magic and hurts Amity In Episode 7 she tries to befriend amity and almost gets both of them killed Even in Episode 17 with the Grudgby challenge And these are only the direct mentions and comparisons I can think of on the spot Every time Luz tries to copy Azura, she fails and the situation goes almost the opposite way She was tricked and wasn’t a chosen one, and almost died with her friends She looses the duel, and doesn’t gain recognition She doesn’t automatically make a friend and almost gets both killed Etc Azura from episode 1 acts as a point of comparison, and Luz copying Azura is usually the vector for Luz to get a reality check, making her repeatedly realise that even in a magical fantasy story, Life has the same problems, if not augmented, and forces Luz to re-evaluate and improve. This also is reduced as the series goes on, which is a nice show of growth, with Azura not really being mentioned in the final 2, at least not in a significant way

luz is my favorite character in toh because she really reminds me of myself and my friends throughout my time in school. i could 100% imagine her being in any of my past friend groups, and i haven't really seen that relatable of a character... ever. sure, there's plenty of emotional relatability in stuff--characters whose pain and happiness i've felt before--but as far as a character i could actually imagine myself hanging out with if they were just a normal person in real life, luz is #1 for me.
