The way Eda’s curse is depicted made her very relatable to me. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease nearly 10 years ago. Dealing with it hasn’t been easy, but taking the right steps and having the right support system (that consists mainly of my loved ones) has made it manageable.

One of the main reasons why I really enjoy Eda as a character is that I really think that she's the only character I can really think of that has a chronic illness (whether you choose to read it as physical or mental, you could make really good arguments for either) without making it into more of what it is and touching on the main issues. Whilst I think that the show is very close to gravity falls in themes and how they handle relationships (plus just some like, gravity falls-eque jokes and whatnot, which may just be unavoidable due to the creative leads) I think that there's enough differences between the two to cement the owl house as it's own (owl) beast. I think as the show goes on I'll be very interested to see what creative choices they'll make to ideally bring the owl house more of it's own distinctive flavour, and less of the gravity falls aftertaste.

I love all 3 of these shows for different reasons. I say the owl house has an awesome opportunity to learn from the mistakes of it's predecessor. Like the mistakes of stars last season how it rushed the pay off or how strong gravity falls was that it only took a couple of seasons to make us love it and be satisfied while wanting more. I say the owl house is in a great position as it has all the time to flesh out its world. Also I wanted to see more of Eclipsa and Mabel those two are two of my all time favorite characters now Eda is on that list. The thing is I love these shows for different reasons

It's annoying to see TOH compared to GF because TOH is it's own thing. It's worse to see TOH compared to SVTFOE because SVTFOE ended up being a poorly-written mess, unfortunately, and it's unfair when people assume that lumity could be handled as bad as starco, or that they'll do a human world/boiling isles world merge just because SVTFOE did it. My point was it's annoying when people compare TOH to other cartoons for no reason.

Huuuh...if you can't compare The Owl House to Gravity Falls you can't compare it to anything really. Like, think about it for a moment. The Owl house is a cartoon in a somewhat similar style, with a very similar premise. There is a lot of overlap in the staff of both shows, and in the type of characters and dynamics. The two show have a lot in common. Of course, we should never forget to also judge them on their own merit, but comparaison can be a valuable way to identify what we like or dislikes about certain shows. Where one show suceed where the other fail, and why ? Again, they are different, but for cartoon animated series, this is a pair of shows that are pretty much as close as you can find. It's perfectly reasonnable to compare them.

She seemed to find the possibility either absurd or distasteful, and I was simply pointing out that both Dana and Alex had made remarks that supported it, and neither of them had gone out of their way to disprove it. Even if Eda and Stan weren't married, it would not surprise me if Gravity Falls and The Owl House share a multiverse like Gravity Falls and Rick and Morty probably do.

Honestly Lilith is my biggest issue with the show right now. IDK how her sibling relationship with Eda is supposed to actually work. I mean, imagine you curse your sister to win a competition and then in your guilt, you decide to dedicate your life to removing that curse. Lillith is actually a well made character! It's not bad at all for liking her, she was just convinced that if her sister joined a covenant Eda would get healed which she desperately wanted, since she didn't want Eda finding out she was the one who cursed her. Lots of the fandom hold a grudge against her for that but I think it's fine to love whatever character you want.

I still don't like Lilith but I'm open to what they're gonna do with her in season 2. I just hope it involves her actually dealing with the consequences of her actions as opposed to just her "healing" Eda and being forgiven. I know she didn't curse Eda on purpose but what she wanted to do back then was still incredibly selfish and then she never owned up to her mistake until several decades later when she was forced to after accidentally spitting it out.

I think one of the biggest mitigating factors for this is that she innitially beleived the curse would only last ONE day, not go on for years. Still a shitty thing to do, but cursing your sister for a single day is a very different thing from cursing your sister to a fate worse than death. I think what ended up happening is that in Eda's early years, the curse wasn't as active and it took a while for Lillith to even realize it hadn't faded. And by then, the little lie by ommission had become much, much bigger and she didn't know how to fix it, and placed her trust in the wrong person to help her. We see that she is concerned about the curse, that she does want Eda to be better and if she actually COULD heal her she probably would have, but she clearly needed Bellos to do it. As cruel as she comes off, she turned on Bellos and the Emperor's Coven the second she discovered what he was actually going to do to Eda. In almost every encounter they have she goes for the same goal; get her to go to Bellos or bring her to him. It's going to take a lot for Eda to trust Lillith again, if she ever does, but as horrible a descision cursing your sister is, it is to be said that she never intended for the curse to be as destructive as it was.

A real world, non magical equivalent to Lillith cursing Eda would be manslaughter; Lillith's actions accidentally would lead to Eda's 'death'. The nonsense you're going off equated the curse to first degree murder, which is premeditated with intent to kill. Lillith beleived the curse would ONLY take Eda's magic for one day, and one day only, and I'm willing to bet the owl monster transformation also wasn't expected either. her actions, legally and socially, are not at the same severity of intending to slowly strip Eda of her magic entirely and 'kill' her. Still bad, but nowhere near as bad as what you're accusing Lillith of.

I really like Eda as a character. Probably one of my top ten favorite Animated Characters. I thought she was great, but she came greater as the episodes progress. I really hope that she continues to be amazing as the seasons progress. Here's hoping that the Bad Girl Coven becomes a new coven in the future of the Owl House. I can't wait to see what they do for season 2. I'm hoping less lore and more fun and wacky adventures.

I may be late seeing this, but I totally relate to Eda's character. When I was about nine, I was diagnosed with severe, chronic anxiety. It crippled me for so many years of my life, but after finding myself, and a supportive, loving family, I got so much better. My anxiety will never go away, but I've learned to live with it and even embrace it. When I saw Eda, I immediately fell in love with her character, and this show seriously nailed it

Ok but, about Lilith, for a second. I know they rushed her arc a bit, but when her mom shows up, it all made MUCH more sense. Up until then, the motivation for Lilith was "to get into the emperor's coven" which was... Honestly kinda weak. Like, she loved Eda a lot, she still does, so why would she do that to her? Because she needed it more. Because Eda was going to be amazing at pretty much anything, Eda was going to be able to do anything else. But Lilith NEEDED desperately to get into the emperor's coven so maybe she wouldn't have been overshadowed by her sister anymore. All the neglect was so heavy on her, she though that was the only option that would help her and would not grave so much on Eda. She didn't say anything because well, for one she had a deep remorse, but also because what would her mother think? She laid a curse on her favourite daughter! What if the little words she ever spoke to her we're gonna go away too? What if she lost her mum? Forever?

Funny you should mention fibromyalgia and CP as I have CP and a close friend of mine has fibromyalgia! I’ve been helping her see that just because she has disabilities (we both have more than one) doesn’t mean she’s a freak… I’m also Neurodivergent like Luz, (ADHD) Gus, (ASD) and a character you’ll meet in season 2, Hunter (PTSD) 🥰 I love how disabled people aren’t made to feel like they have to be fixed in order to have a fulfilling life on the Boiling Isles and wish that the ablest society IRL would take a page from that book and be more accessible for people like me or my aforementioned friend….. a girl can dream!!

Eda is my favorite character. She doesn't let her curse keep her from doing what she loves. She used her magic unwisely until she met Luz. She did everything should could for Luz and even managed to enroll her into magic school and take back all of the bad things she did at Luz's age. I'm glad that she has come this far in character growth. Eda knows almost nothing about Humans and yet shes doing all she can just to keep Luz alive and happy.

Im a new fanm of Owl House and Eda is the one who sold me into watching the show. I'm awful at starting a new series, but she had me hooked. In a way I hope that the show ends with Eda becoming the headmaster of her own school. I know it sounds very Season 6 Twilight Sparkle, but I think from the way she takes care of Luz and other kids like Willow and Gus, she'd be an amazing headmaster or at least teacher. Thats just me though, I just cant wait to see what season 2 holds!

Totally agree with your assessment. Just one thing I have to point out: Ida is not that old, as she si Lilith sister (the younger [twin] apparently) then she should be way younger than she is, her looks are most likely because of the course. That being said, I totally agree with the fact that there are little female grizzly characters taking care of a child out there. More variety is always welcome.

I like the dynamic of either Luz is the daughter Eda never had, or with how they are both treated they are what they need. Luz is a spirited child who needed encouragement to follow her path and Eda never had anyone to look up to her like Luz does considering she doesn't follow the coven deal.

Eda and Luz is probably the most relatable characters I know so far, I’ve struggled with my creativity getting the best of me and I quickly became a target in school, I got diagnosed with asberger syndrome and depression which feels like a curse, and I’ve always felt left out and alone and the owl house is probably one of the best coping mechanisms I have at the moment, cause when life gives you lemons you go watch cartoons

Like king when he saw Eda in his body, I have mixed emotions towards Eda wanting to marry Luz's mom. I can definitely see either her or king calling her big Luz but it would also be kind of funny for luz's mom to be a 30-40 something amity(her crush is obvious as she is awkward about it) But that tangent aside I love your take on Eda. I feel she's at her realest when she's dealing with her curse or being a mom figure to Luz and king(don't deny it why else would she even be ok with having king in a baby carrier? )

Eda is the type of women i would either like to have in my life as a lover or be her myself. If not both. She is genuelly an amazing character of an awesome show. Then again i dont get the Lumity struggle all that much. Lets say one of them was a boy. Would that feel like forced thing? I dont know. I dont think it would feel like that. Both characters have backstories, struggles, personality etc. Their realtionship is pretty much interesting. They could have waited to show Amity aving a love interest in Luz but it does feel like it makes sense. She looks up to her. Teens have crushes and stuff. Thats normal. I belive theyll explain that further later on. Its still just a crush for now. Luz still doesnt relize Amitys feelings for her. (oh boy)

I've often held that Disney TV has, on the whole, been a more more enjoyable ride than their theatrical releases, and a lot of that is to do with their characters. Sure, those like Genie or Timon and Pumbaa are probably more well-known and stuff, but when it comes to those who bring me the most joy to watch, it's the cast of their TV shows, like Perry, Webby, and now Eda who really succeed 😊
