It makes me so happy to hear how proud John is of this movie as he rightly should be, it is an utter masterpiece and it was so ahead of its time he god dragged through the mud for it. No filmmaker deserves such treatment and who could have blamed him to wanting to turn his back on hollywood but what the man has given us in throughout his lifetime has been monumental. A true visionary and artist and I'm so glad he got to live long enough to see the profound love people have for The Thing and his many incredible movies.

“The Thing” has pretty consistently been in my top three favorite movies of all time. Although, if I’m being honest, I prefer not knowing the infection timeline stuff. I’ve had some stuff pointed out to me and I’ve tried to block it out of my memory. Half the fun of “The Thing” is never knowing who’s infected and who’s not.
@stgeorge28Ай бұрын
That's how Carpenter wanted it. Speculation and constant theories. It worked, because to this day it's still discussed who was the Thing, especially the end. They don't make em like they use to.

This is going to be exciting. I saw this in 1982 at twelve years old. It has been my most favorite sci fi/horror movie of all time. I still watch it to this day. Even the prequel was decent. My only issue is that they didn't do a third one where the thing makes it back to population. I'm hoping some day, someone will make a movie showing that.
@creationfantastiqueАй бұрын

John Carpenter's: The Thing is my favorite movie and has a great making of that people should watch. What i don't always want is explanations to movies. I remember when i saw making of the first Alien movie and some producer or someone said "I want to know what that ”alien pilot” is on that ship. That is what we now know as Engineers. And when i saw Prometheus i went: "Damn, now i know what is in the first Alien movie." Things don't always have to have answers and just let us ourselfs discuss and wonder what things might be. Still going to watch this because they have made good documentaries and i am a huge John Carpenter fan.

I have 4 different copies of this film, it's absolutely brilliant. I love older films that don't explain everything, it's one of the problems with the expansion of the Alien universe. The xenomorph was made by an angry robot? No, no that's not what I pictured at all. The Thing doesn't need explanation beyond what the characters discover themselves.

I can't mention another film that has been begging for a sequel for decades more than The Thing. What happens when the Thing breaks out into civilization? This can easily be a trilogy if not an ongoing franchise where humans first discover the outbreak and are overwhelmed by it as the Thing takes over the population. Then how humans find ways to quickly detect and destroy it. Then how to destroy the Thing on a mass scale. How this hasn't become a franchise yet on the level of Predator, Terminator, Alien, etc. is beyond me.
@babywah3290Ай бұрын
Blair’s notes of it could’ve imitated millions of planets in millions of galaxies pretty much says it all. IT crashing in a frigid climate was the Hail Mary needed for humanity on earth but the ending is open to interpretation. Was Childs infected when missing? Was MacCready an alien- an individual separate cell, killing other aliens in disguise to save itself?
