Poor Minoto. If her sister were to die that would mentally destroy her, completely obliterate her, she'd break apart like the glass that fell off my balcony. Hinoa would also be incredibly sad in the other scenario, but she isn't as obsessed with her sister as Minoto. Sparing Minoto would probably be the route to the worst ending in that hypothetical game.

The darker stories Yoko Taro is known for I believe came about because he thought it was strange that some players would boast about how many enemies they kill in certain games. So he wrote dark stories to get players to stop for a moment and reflect on this in one way or another. So I think he wrote up this piece for Monster Hunter Rise with a similar mindset. This game's story is about keeping the village safe from the Rampages but most players probably don't think about that and are more just thinking about killing more monsters to get better equipment.

I’ll be honest, I always found that to be a big pain because if the dung bomb didn’t work you would just be unable to fight either monster as both of them ganged up on you. You wouldn’t be able to fight back in that situation.
@stormetro6046
@stormetro6046 3 жыл бұрын
I thought that was one of the worst parts of the old games. I never leave without dung bombs ever since 3rd gen (they didn't make monsters flee before then) because it's just not fun watching multiple monsters pretend you're the only target that exists so that you don't get to play the game. I want to see a lot of the old style of mh come back but by the love of god, do not make multiple monsters as annoying as they used to be.
@elk3407
@elk3407 3 жыл бұрын
I think I miss World's way of handling multiple monsters the most. Pre-world was just annoying, but in Rise it's just lackluster where they either become rideable and then run away, or skip straight to running away

Thanks for a great episode yet again! "Daddy needs a new pair of boots" does sound a bit extreme in the context of carving a monster corpse, but it's also an idiom used to bring good luck when gambling, which gives the expression a nice double meaning as you're trying to get the gems and plates :D

When talking about Quest times, I remember when I saw solo-ing G-rank in MHFU, I actually kept timing out against Black Gravios and Black Diablos. I no doubt could have played better (this is going back more than 13 years, I was a babby teen), but I remember I ended up winning by bringing max amounts of traps, Bombs and components to make more and using them all in the last 5 minutes, placing my last trap and hoping they were low enough health to Capture.

In the Yoko Taro version, they would look at the affection levels of the twins, so if you sacrifice the one you like less, it would pick your weapon based on the ones you used the least. So Rurikhan would get a long sword, since that's what she picks for you, or bow, since that's what she uses.

Wanted to put this out there... My friend and I are pretty much new to MH with Rise being our first game (technically I've had lots of the demos before but nothing beyond demo games on 3ds or switch), and I feel obligated say that we failed 3 different village quests. I timed out two times and triple carted once, he timed out three times. Now, just having beaten Teostra for the first time, I have a new file that is going through early game again and I'm still having a tiny bit of trouble on the hub quests (granted, I'm using weapons I'm not used to on this new profile). My point? I think the early game is heavily balanced around the assumption that you are a newbie to the game, and I think it's designed specifically to be easy to clear the village quests (hence why all the tutorials are there instead of in the gathering hub)and up until Magnamalo for the hub is also designed for newcomers. From my perspective, I think that Rise is well-balanced, but I also think my perspective specifically comes from a point of absolutely no experience. Rise is definitely easy, but I think that that was on purpose. Veterans, even ones who came from World/Iceborn, don't give themselves enough credit on how good they are.

I feel about Sword and Shield the same way SuperRAD feels about Longsword. World and Rise added big burst damage high commitment attack and almost all of them, except a few hits in perfect rush, are shield attacks. But I'm not here for Sword And Shield. I am here for Sword (and also shield is here). This is what I've been playing, the weapon's simplicity is what made me like it. Yes, it was only one combo and assorted utility. No, it was not boring at all. The nuance was in *using* it, and giving it big flashy burst damage moves goes against how I use it, dancing around the monster, avoiding every monster, striking it without needing an opening, breaking every part systematically with my pinpoint precision, and using and abusing elemental and status attacks. Falling Bash, Hard Basher and Perfect Rush *all* go against that. And I'm not using them, because they're not fun, and it feels like I'm missing half a moveset, because I *am*. Like, my playstyle got Spinning Reaper *and a nerfed X combo*. That's it. You can loop back into the X combo from Spinning Reaper with R+X, but you could already loop in almost immediately from the roundslash finisher, and the Spinning Reaper also backloads the damage *a lot*, which I don't like either! It's just... It's mutating into something alien, and I'm desperately grasping onto the few things that are still familiar, and I don't have a second best to main even though I play every weapon to an extent because nothing is as comfortable as this sword, and I'm scared about what other changes they'll make, and I don't like it.

Regarding maps: I hope that the next game they combine the old and new map techniques. basically divide hunting quests & arena quests so that hunting quests make you depart and you have to travel to the location of the monster your hunting (either fast travel to camps or ride yer doggo through map to map). basically have all the maps at current size or so and connect them through a transition zone (loading screen) that has you load into a different map or region if you've "traveled" fair enough.

1:29:00 Wirebug Whisperer and Partbreaker are some of my favorite skills to throw on, especially for Hammer.The combination of constant aerial smash attacks (which do MASSIVE damage) with easier part breaking makes for a super crunchy fight. It's not uncommon for me to break several parts of a monster in the course of a single engagement or even a single knockdown.

1:14:11 this explanation about the heat gauge is also applicable to MHR ground splitter... and losing the ground splitter buff after weapon sheath doesn’t help, when other weapons don’t lose their buffs upon weapon sheath.

i loved investigations. I like random quests, in different maps, different monsters popping up ect. i like that. i don't like how im stuck into going to fight narga in the mud map every run. granted we have event quest with him in the forest. But i want more quests in diff areas. and i want all arena quests for all monsters. (like not the coin quests but like the normal 4 player kind)

I would love to just see the mobility of the hunter in rise but with the prep work needed from older gens. For gathering stuff like ore and bugs I would like to see the need to upgrade your net/axe in order to get more/better materials. Also magnomalo's weapons blast needs to be purple

I loved the maps in world even if they were a little confusing sometimes. They were a little busy but they had so many nice details like the mentioned azure rathalos spot and each map felt like its own world. I think from a gameplay perspective rise definitely has better maps though. I would never just wander around rise aimlessly like I've done in world though.

I meaaaaaan if you use wyvern fire, it stops the heat gauge, so you can use shells as much as you want. And if you were at the very tip of red, it would stay on red, and you would keep the buff

I don't mind worlds approach to the map, like having rathalos having a nest on the highest peak of the Forrest and all the "traps" you can trigger on the map, in rise it feels like you gotta run from A to B... It feels very simplistic and arcady. Still a good game though.

What I'd really like is if the series split into two directions. You have the "mainline" games starting with World now that go into a more mainstream direction, and the "portable" games that attempt to preserve more of that traditional experience while only cutting as much fat as necessary. A development in Rise that I'm especially worried about is the heavy increase of counter attacks. Monster Hunter combat is supposed to be about positioning and timing, but positioning loses its importance when you introduce spammable counter attacks that make you take no damage and deal significant damage to the monster with little regard for positioning. On a sidenote, Ancient Forest was great. By now I think the only people who hate it are actually having trouble orienting themselves in a 3D environment. I've watched a streamer run past a path for five minutes with chat trying to explain to him where it was. Here's a hint, if you can't find something, look around where you can actually walk instead of running up and down the same path 20 times while looking at the sky.

I think we have a split between the visions of mainline and portable but in a different way. Mainline is really trying to go in on a more grounded feel to the combat and actually trying to tell some semblance of a story (See 4U and World), while portable just wants to have fun with spammable counters and very out there boss fights like ahtal ka and narwa the allmother.

I would thought Gaijin would have thought the same elder as me for Rise would be such a fit for theme/mechanics: Gogmazios! Oh my Gog the fun with verticality and you could even fit him story wise with Rampage defenses! Like he bypassed the normal defenses and made it to prep area or something.
