The darker stories Yoko Taro is known for I believe came about because he thought it was strange that some players would boast about how many enemies they kill in certain games. So he wrote dark stories to get players to stop for a moment and reflect on this in one way or another. So I think he wrote up this piece for Monster Hunter Rise with a similar mindset. This game's story is about keeping the village safe from the Rampages but most players probably don't think about that and are more just thinking about killing more monsters to get better equipment.

When talking about Quest times, I remember when I saw solo-ing G-rank in MHFU, I actually kept timing out against Black Gravios and Black Diablos. I no doubt could have played better (this is going back more than 13 years, I was a babby teen), but I remember I ended up winning by bringing max amounts of traps, Bombs and components to make more and using them all in the last 5 minutes, placing my last trap and hoping they were low enough health to Capture.

In the Yoko Taro version, they would look at the affection levels of the twins, so if you sacrifice the one you like less, it would pick your weapon based on the ones you used the least. So Rurikhan would get a long sword, since that's what she picks for you, or bow, since that's what she uses.

Wanted to put this out there... My friend and I are pretty much new to MH with Rise being our first game (technically I've had lots of the demos before but nothing beyond demo games on 3ds or switch), and I feel obligated say that we failed 3 different village quests. I timed out two times and triple carted once, he timed out three times. Now, just having beaten Teostra for the first time, I have a new file that is going through early game again and I'm still having a tiny bit of trouble on the hub quests (granted, I'm using weapons I'm not used to on this new profile). My point? I think the early game is heavily balanced around the assumption that you are a newbie to the game, and I think it's designed specifically to be easy to clear the village quests (hence why all the tutorials are there instead of in the gathering hub)and up until Magnamalo for the hub is also designed for newcomers. From my perspective, I think that Rise is well-balanced, but I also think my perspective specifically comes from a point of absolutely no experience. Rise is definitely easy, but I think that that was on purpose. Veterans, even ones who came from World/Iceborn, don't give themselves enough credit on how good they are.

@lordofdarkness42043 жыл бұрын
I’ll be honest, I always found that to be a big pain because if the dung bomb didn’t work you would just be unable to fight either monster as both of them ganged up on you. You wouldn’t be able to fight back in that situation.
@stormetro60463 жыл бұрын
I thought that was one of the worst parts of the old games. I never leave without dung bombs ever since 3rd gen (they didn't make monsters flee before then) because it's just not fun watching multiple monsters pretend you're the only target that exists so that you don't get to play the game. I want to see a lot of the old style of mh come back but by the love of god, do not make multiple monsters as annoying as they used to be.
@elk34073 жыл бұрын

Regarding maps: I hope that the next game they combine the old and new map techniques. basically divide hunting quests & arena quests so that hunting quests make you depart and you have to travel to the location of the monster your hunting (either fast travel to camps or ride yer doggo through map to map). basically have all the maps at current size or so and connect them through a transition zone (loading screen) that has you load into a different map or region if you've "traveled" fair enough.

I feel about Sword and Shield the same way SuperRAD feels about Longsword. World and Rise added big burst damage high commitment attack and almost all of them, except a few hits in perfect rush, are shield attacks. But I'm not here for Sword And Shield. I am here for Sword (and also shield is here). This is what I've been playing, the weapon's simplicity is what made me like it. Yes, it was only one combo and assorted utility. No, it was not boring at all. The nuance was in *using* it, and giving it big flashy burst damage moves goes against how I use it, dancing around the monster, avoiding every monster, striking it without needing an opening, breaking every part systematically with my pinpoint precision, and using and abusing elemental and status attacks. Falling Bash, Hard Basher and Perfect Rush *all* go against that. And I'm not using them, because they're not fun, and it feels like I'm missing half a moveset, because I *am*. Like, my playstyle got Spinning Reaper *and a nerfed X combo*. That's it. You can loop back into the X combo from Spinning Reaper with R+X, but you could already loop in almost immediately from the roundslash finisher, and the Spinning Reaper also backloads the damage *a lot*, which I don't like either! It's just... It's mutating into something alien, and I'm desperately grasping onto the few things that are still familiar, and I don't have a second best to main even though I play every weapon to an extent because nothing is as comfortable as this sword, and I'm scared about what other changes they'll make, and I don't like it.
@statesminds3 жыл бұрын
I do wish they had the monsters as a quest in other locations. Like Rakna Kadachi can be sandy plains but the quest is lava caverns but she shows up expedition in sandy plains. More monsters should be like bazel and change or make more quests
@peterturna95583 жыл бұрын
Idg the argument about the changes. Every mh games has lots of unique bits and sry but the player character was always super human. No fall damage, carrying great swords, not getting ripped into pieces being able to actually outrun monsters, killing elder dragons. Seriously just because the combat gets more interactive and richer doesn’t mean people aren’t scared of being carted anymore and that’s what the immersion is about. Look at your vids and tell me there isn’t the same struggle for survival in the new games as in the older games. Hot drinks and cold drinks were a weird gimmick face it. Monster hunter isn’t about realism or simulation it’s about the monster hunter world and if you can be hit by a plasma beam without being instantly dead why the fuck should you have to chuck some herb juice. Same goes for paintballs fun weird mechanic that kinda made sense but also was essentially just a timed map pop up or a reason to always have a psychoserum on you. Not really important to the game at all. With seamless maps it even makes less sense. Being able to go back to camp to restock is also just convenient and not really a change. In older games you could fully heal at camp and got a second wave of supplies. It’s what ever you always had unlimited potions if you choose to “fully” use you 50 minutes of a hunt and gather a lot. Here’s another thing about difficulty: last time I checked monster ai got better and it wasn’t possible to solo stagger lock certain monsters like in older games. MH isn’t about the difficulty anyways take 4 heavy bowguns and every mh game looks piss easy. The thing is: you are the hunter so you choose how to hunt and it’s always been that case.

I love maintaining the flavor of the setting ( referring to mention of modern slang in rise ) but I want layerable armor that is modern so bad. Want to run around in joggers, hoodie and some running shoes slaying monsters. Bonus points if they add physics to the hood on the hoodie.

Before a Rampage I'm like "eh fuckin Rampages. Ok I can dig it I guess." After a Rampage I'm like "yo that shit is super dope. I could do another" But if I take too long to start another I'm back to "eh fuck 'em."

For the narga Event quest: i also felt that it was hitting way to hard, the Anje oneshotted me when i tried to mount it. After 2 more 1 shots i realised I didnt used any armor because of a Bomb Dunk 1v1 in the Training area the day before the quest came out. Was super easy afterwards

1:27:00 My issue with the game being easier is that it is just another instant gratification like everything else now. The build up and mastery felt like a pain and pleasure that I miss from video games and society as a whole.

AGREED ABOUT VOLVIDON! Good lord, killing him IN TIME is so hard since he's jumping around all the time

It's good that people can still use Long Sword in the old way, even if it feels like you're wasting the counter potential. Maybe the developers can make that playstyle better with Switch Skills, imagine one that replaces the Iai Spirit Slash with another non-counter move.

About the localization : could Kamura etc be set into a post-apocalyptic new world? Or is it even? Be pleased for information.
