Thanks. We were very surprised how easy the pulley came off, I suspect it had a significant oil leak form the seal at some point in the past. Merry Christmas to you too! Take care

Nice work on freshening up that top end with a valve lap, fresh head gasket, and skimming the head, or as I would say across the pond, planing the head. A freshly planed head is very satisfying. There's just something I really enjoy about reconditioning old parts. And I find a fresh set of belts is always very satisfying to install. Great work!
@GardenTractorBoy
@GardenTractorBoy 21 күн бұрын
Thanks. Planing is a word that is sometimes used over here too for that. These are Pix belts which we do like. The belts feel a bit too tight but we will only know for sure once it is running due to the oddities of the versamatic. I hope you had a great Christmas, take care

I used to be the strong one but now I have to have my son move heavy things for me. Life progresses. One problem with lubricating threads that have to be torqued is the possibility of over torquing. The torque is usually given for dry threads. It probably wont be a problem with machines made before the 1980s but, head bolts that are torqued into their plastic range can be damaged. Thats why you're supposed to use new head bolts when replacing a head gasket on newer cars. I have some Wentworth wrenches from when I played with an MGA, 55 years ago. Good video. Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year. Good Luck, Rick

Dad feels much the same with lifting things. Great information about torque settings, thanks. It is good to have a range of wrenches for situations like this and it does seem common over here for previous owners to install randome bolts. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, I hope you have a good one. Take care

Nice work, Joseph! Making progress, one step at a time. Looking forward to the next episode! Here's wishing you and yours have a very Merry Christmas. I've been in touch with my twin brother, Father Christmas, and he assured me he's fully prepared to make timely rounds to all the good folks in the UK on Christmas Eve, barring any unforeseen difficulties with his sleigh and team of reindeer. He did mention the right-side runner on the sleigh has loosened rivets which causes the sleigh to 'pull' to the right a little. He asked if I thought it would be okay if he dropped by your shop on his first stop to see if you could snug up those rivets a bit. Told me he'd make an extra effort to reward you for your help by leaving extra presents under the Christmas tree for you. Myself, I'm a bit down in the back this year as the lumbago has been flaring up again. That, and the fact that Rudolph, my lead reindeer, had hip replacement surgery last month and is still on the mend, but he'll probably do okay with an extra dose of tylenol before we lift off. Even with those issues at hand, I think we'll be able to cover all our stops promptly, making lots and lots of good folks very happy. Have a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!

Thanks. I think you summed it up very well, it does feel like we are making progress even though it is slow. Great Christmas story, we always look forward to a visit from Farther Christmas and would be very happy to fix up his sleigh. I hope you have a great Christmas. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Take care

Funny you mention ultrasonic cleaner breaking (even the new one!), just this week I put my "almost brand new ultrasonic cleaner" to use and it stopped working! Got it fixed but it seems to be a common issue with them. The assembly is coming right along...

Thanks. The broken ultrasonic cleaner was not helpful and we had a lot of problems getting a replacement. I think the main problem is they all appear to be made overseas. Take care

@@GardenTractorBoy Mine had a leak in the drain piping and the water dripped down onto the control board. Who puts an electronic board in the direct path of a potential leak-source? I dried it out with a hair dryer and it worked again. Lucky break!

How's she goin'? The engine is going back together pretty good as are the pulleys and belts. To bad about the cowling not being proper. I think some careful filing might be on the "to do' list for the New Year. Nice work Joseph. Take 'er easy!!!
@GardenTractorBoy
@GardenTractorBoy 21 күн бұрын
Thanks. It is very odd about the cowling we thought they were all the same but clearly not. A lot has to be taken off and I think it would take too long with a file. We have a cunning plan and if it works we will report back hopefully in the next video. Take care
