Honestly, I kind of stop listening to people once "Everything happens for a reason" comes out of their mouth. I pretty much agreed with Peter's perspective on this one. I do believe it's hard to be happy if you don't have/create a purpose. Something to drive you every day to contribute. That, and having a strong community are probably the two greatest things for being "happy", whatever that is

My dear ones of love and light, kindness, compassion and enlightened understanding: always continue to cultivate and nurture a mind of resentment and vindictiveness, demanding swift and harsh justice for those of less than the immaculate ethics and less than the purest pristine integrity that you display, always, as schadenfreude. By doing this, your minds will always reside within the exquisitely ineffable states of sustained turmoil and torment. Good luck to you! Best of luck! Hope for the best! Hate Has No Home Here!

Finding what it’s not is perhaps simpler - avoid hyper-self focus. Suggestion - be well equipped to be useful and valuable to the betterment of others.

Finding the meaning of life come from deep acceptance of we're you are... Than your realise that absolutely every little thing you do as you exist means something, therefore you meaning is what you do even if it's nothing... It just is.

Trying to believe as many true things and as few false things as possible should be a goal. Saying god did anything is just evoking magic and ending a search for truth. Giving unfalsifiable answers to anything is worthless.

I appreciate the conversation but the idea that happiness requires meaning is nothing new as it's long established fact in positive psychology and philosophy. Interesting to hear about the neurochemistry of awe and aging (vanaprastha). However, sannyasa does not mean illumination but renunciation (a tad surprising to hear the guest making such mistake...). One thing I learned from my hippie years in India: it is a waste of time and money to try to learn anything relevant from export-style-resort gurus...

Yeah, but how many doctors are treating people for protein deficiency? Just people who starve themselves. The answer is to eat. Every diet has enough protein. There is almost nobody going to an emergency room for chronic "protein deficiency". A doctor would look at you strangely if you asked them how many people have you had to treat for "protein deficiency"

There is no meaning to life. It's just an experience. Did the cow from which we eat ground beef life have meaning? What about the walrus that died yesterday that we had no idea existed? Or the grasshopper? There is no meaning to any of this, it just is. But we do have a purpose, happiness. That's it.
