So, should have a spacer for proper penetration. Never do #3 because of slag in your welds that can contaminate it and cause cracking. Plus use a 3/32 rod not 1/8 or whatever you used. If you’re going to do welding vids, people have to get good advice

#2 had pretty bad slag inclusion too, you shouldn't whip with 7018

@@dcktater7847 so you’re telling me, the #3 way to weld that, wouldn’t cause slag to be trapped into the weld? the outside of the rod has flux on it, when doing stick, you need to hammer out all the slag from the weld. or else, it will be trapped in the weld causing issues. The #3 option, has you welding right on top of slag every time you start and stop like that without cleaning it. i know what i’m talking about.

Ok so 6013 is a light penetrating electrode. Its specific uses for sheet metal and other thin metal welding purposes. I was taught to just drag the puddle with the right electrode angle. No oscillating or stacking of the weld puddle, it leaves porosity behind in deposited weld metal.

Once the molten pole is still wet it's probably fine the perform the second technique (wipe and pause), but the last one he did is a no-no.

Welding 1.5 mm thick metal is not too hard.Anyone who has decent welding skills can do it. Try and weld 1mm material or thinner with stick and that’s when the fun starts 😄

yeah lol, 1.0mm is the hardest and you can't weld like this with a soldering iron you can just dot a few welds if you solder a lot it will leak and rot

It's a bitch, if you can get away with using an aluminum bar behind your material to absorb some of the heat it makes it a bit easier. Super satisfying when you get it done though. Its like beating the final boss ina video game.

I bought a portable 200 amp welding machine. it looks very easy watching videos, the electrode stick melt like butter. but when I tried , the stick stucks on the metal, etc I cnt even explain. I also tried on every ampere settings. but I just cnt do it. is it because the electrode stick has expired or something else,. 😢

hi beginer stick welder here. Is 60 to 90 amps to hot for a 1.5mm stick weld? I seem to be melting off the metal tubing and it is very frustrating to try to fill up the holes:(((

60-90 amps is for 3/16 to 3/8" metal. Note OPs amp settings well below 40 amps, perhaps 20-25 amps, about 40 seconds in video.

I completely agree. No 3 is the best way to weld very thin material . Even though you get slag inclusions and the weld is not very strong.

A lot of people hate on the stitch welds but for anything non structural or super thin they work just fine

that works with mig. never seen anyone do it that way with stick. my first welding job was garbage dumpsters and i agree, we do that with mig welding to patch up big holes or areas where you can’t just hammer into it without making the hole worse.

for thin metal, i’d recommend 6013, and a thin filler rod and whip it or stitch it. also, settings matter. gotta know what amps to use.
