The Thruxton R brake pads after 5+ years need replacing

The stock brake pads have been in for 5+ years. The crew's sharp eyes spotted the need for brake pads while freeing up the pads from the rotors at Bonneville.
My first stop after getting back was to order some new brake pads....all was going to plan when.....you need to watch the video.
I'll finish up the brake pad job once I get back next week.

Pads certainly worn and required replacing, good job they didn't get down to the metal and damage the disc. Your bike looks perfectly clean and no sign its been running on the salt flats, you take great care of your bikes for sure. What is the difference between the fuel GT4 + 104 and regular fuel? Is it a higher octane rating ? Great video

I generally use higher octane unleaded ethanol fuel for my street bikes with higher compression engines and not to damage the sensors in the exhausts. It can get in the mid 90 degree Fahrenheit in the after noon and the sun keeps the gas warm. Normal 91 octane superunleaded 10% ethanol is what I run except at land speed racing and ocassionally at the drag strip when its hot.

I could not see the rear inside pad... all I could see was the one on the outside. So you had more meat on that inner pad. In addition to replacing them due to wear, I was concerned with any damaged I might have caused to the pad while pulling them back. I tried, as best that I could, to push on the metal plate, but sometimes the blade would go into the pad. Glad that you are changing them all an will save the old ones for future runs.

I didn't see any damage on the rear ones and probably not on the front. It will another week or so before I get the proper ones in. You did a great job freeing those pads up. My nephew and I are starting the Idaho ride tomorrow. Just dropped the van off to check those sensor problems we had. I don't about future runs but stayed tuned in just in case.

How far do you go with cleaning the salt off the bike? Do you remove the fairing? Winter road salt here in England is the number 1 enemy to bike owners here and is the main reason many choose not to ride in the winter.

We rinsed the bike after each run and washed it twice after we got back. Usually I remove the fairing as soon as I get home by honestly the salt wasn't as wet as usual and the bike stayed pretty clean.
